The objective of this study was to estimate the dynamic behavior of a personal rapid transit(PRT) track system using a rail of rectangular tube section and a rail joint of sliding type, and to compare the results with the normal rail and rail joint of a PRT track system by performing field measurements using actual vehicles running along the service lines. The measured vertical displacement of rail and sleeper, and vertical acceleration of rail for the normal rail and rail joint section were found to be similar, and the rail joint of sliding type satisfied the design specifications of the track impact factor for a conventional railway track. The experimental results showed that the overall dynamic response of the rail joint were found to be similar to or less than that of the normal rail, therefore the rail joint of sliding type for PRT track system was sufficient to ensure a stability and safety of PRT track system.

This study examined the maximum resistant moment and nonlinear rotational stiffness of wedge joint between the vertical and horizontal members of system supports. To examine the maximum resistant moment and propose the nonlinear rotation stiffness of wedge joint, 6 specimens were tested and additional 3 specimens, where the horizontal member was welded to the vertical member, were tested to compare the moment capacity of wedge joints. The average maximum moment in the tested wedge joint was 1.183 kNm which represented about 70 % of the maximum moment developed in the welded specimens. And, as simulating nonlinear rotational stiffness of the wedge joint, a tri-linear model was suggested. The rotational stiffness was estimated as 23.095 kNm/rad in first stage, 7.945 kNm/rad in second stage, and 3.073 kNm/rad in third stage. For the failure mode, the specimen with the wedge joint showed the failure of joint between vertical and horizontal members. However, the specimen with welded joint represented the yielding of horizontal members.
In this study, we have developed the humanoid joint modules which provide a variety of service while living with people in the future home life. The most important requirement is ensuring the safety for humans of the robot system for collaboration with people and providing physical service in dynamic changing environment. Therefore we should construct the mechanism and control system that each joint of the robot should response sensitively and rapidly to fulfill that. In this study, we have analyzed the characteristic of the joint which based on the target constituting the humanoid motion, developed the optimal actuator system which can be controlled based on each joint characteristic, and developed the control system which can control an multi-joint system at a high speed. In particular, in the design of the joint, we have defined back-drivability at the safety perspective and developed an actuator unit to maximize. Therefore we establish a foundation element technology for future commercialization of intelligent service robots.

Geological dynamic hazards during deep coal mining are caused by the failure of a composite system consisting of the rock and coal layers, whereas the joint in coal affects the stability of the composite system. In this paper, the compression test simulations for the rock-coal combined body with single joint in coal were conducted using $PFC^{2D}$ software and especially the effects of joint length and joint angle on strength and failure characteristics in a rock-coal combined body were analyzed. The joint length and joint angle exhibit a deterioration effect on the strength and affect the failure modes. The deterioration effect of joint length of L on the strength can be neglected with a tiny variation at ${\alpha}$ of $0^{\circ}$ or $90^{\circ}$ between the loading direction and joint direction. While, the deterioration effect of L on strength are relatively large at ${\alpha}$ between $30^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$. And the peak stress and peak strain decrease with the increase of L. Additionally, the deterioration effect of ${\alpha}$ on the strength becomes larger with the increase of L. With the increase of ${\alpha}$, the peak stress and peak strain first decrease and then increase, presenting "V-shaped" curves. And the peak stress and peak strain at ${\alpha}$ of $45^{\circ}$ are the smallest. Moreover, the failure mainly occurs within the coal and no apparent failure is observed for rock. At ${\alpha}$ between $30^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$, the secondary shear cracks generated in or close to the joint tips, cause the structural instability failure of the combined body. Therefore, their failure models present as a shear failure along partial joint plane direction and partially cutting across the coal body or a shear failure along the joint plane direction. However, at ${\alpha}$ of $60^{\circ}$ and L of 10 mm, the "V-shaped" shear cracks cutting across the coal body cause its final failure. While crack nucleations at ${\alpha}$ of $0^{\circ}$ or $90^{\circ}$ are randomly distributed in the coal, the failure mode shows a V-shaped shear failure cutting across the coal body.
Since structural systems may fail in any one of several failure modes, computation of system reliability is always difficult. A method using numerical quadrature for computing structural system reliability with either one or more than one failure mode is presented in this paper. Statistically correlated safety margin equations are transformed into a group of uncorrelated variables and the joint density function of these uncorrelated variables can be generated by using the Maximum Entropy Method. Structural system reliability is then obtained by integrating the joint density function with the transformed safety domain enclosed within a set of linear equations. The Gaussian numerical integration method is introduced in order to improve computational accuracy. This method can be used to evaluate structural system reliability for Gaussian or non-Gaussian variables with either linear or nonlinear safety boundaries. It is also valid for implicit safety margins such as computer programs. Both the theory and the examples show that this method is simple in concept and easy to implement.
This study proposes an industrial rehabilitation robot system which can exercise two joints in 3 dimensional spaces. The robot kinematics analysis and the results of studies on each joint for the rehabilitation robot could verify possibility of rehabilitation motion to exercise a joint. The force and torques sensor not only measures a rehabilitation performance of subjects between the abnormal limb and the manipulator, but also carries out an important function of safety device to prevent accidents. Also, limit sensors and emergency stop switch are used for high safety in this system. In this real test, the possibility of rehabilitation robot system is evaluated by C&R ARM I which is similar to upper-limb.
The purpose of this study was to investigate drivers' postures in different car pedal systems and skilled levels under fatigue. Twenty four subjects participated in this experiment. For three-dimensional analyses, six cameras (Proreflex MCU-240, Qualisys) were used to acquire raw data. The parameters were calculated and analyzed with Visual-3D. In conclusion, ROAs of two leg-pedal system were less than one leg pedal system by pattern analysis. Through statistical tests, skilled levels have effects on ROAs(X, Y, Z) of ankle joint at breaking a pedal and ROAs(Y, Z) of ankle joint at accelerating a pedal. Also, car pedal systems have effects on ROAs(Y, Z) of ankle joint, and ROA(Z) of knee joint at accelerating a pedal. In addition, skilled levels and car pedal systems (cross effects) have an effect on ROA(Z) of ankle joint. These findings suggested that we should improve a present single pedal system.

Because steel frame has own characteristics as easy to work and structural safety, it is being increased application by the trend of construction industry has been more higher and larger in today. However, steel frame works have potential problem, so fundamental solution is needed for preventing serious accidents. Recently, self-supported steel joint for enhancing safety is developed in Korea, but this system has some limitations as convenience of work, retainment of consistent productivity. For complementing this limitations, we developed the new system named Automated wire control machine. This study is performed productivity of steel frame work by new system. The basis data for analysing productivity is collected from field test.
A system with the ability to recognize potential key blocks during tunnel construction by analyzing the rock face was developed in this study. This system predicts the formation of key blocks in advance and evaluates their safety factors. A laser scanner was used to collect a three-dimensional point cloud of the rock face, which was then utilized to model the excavation surface and derive the joint surfaces. Because joint surfaces have specific strikes and dip angles, the key blocks formed by these surfaces are deduced through iterative calculations, and the safety factor of each key block can be calculated accordingly. The model experiments confirmed the accuracy of the system's output in terms of the joint surface characteristics. By inputting the joint surface information, the calculated safety factors were compared with those from the existing commercial software, demonstrating stable calculation results within a 1% error margin.
Precast members have relatively good quality because they are manufactured in an environment suitable for quality control. A typical precast method in which pre-fabricated segments are assembled in the field requires a joint. Although the joint is a small part of the member, it greatly affects the behavior and quality of the structural member. In the previous study of this paper, the flexural strength of a joint, which is generally applied to half-depth precast deck systems, was verified to have higher strength than the design requirement. In addition, the proposed joint has been verified to have higher strength by reinforcing the connecting rebar. However, even if the flexural strength of the joints is sufficient, excessive deflection or lack of fatigue performance is likely to cause cracks in the half-depth precast deck system. In this study, the serviceability of the half-deck precast panel specimens with joints was evaluated and the experimental verification was conducted to evaluate the fatigue performance of the joint without connection rebar. As a result, the serviceability such as deflection and crack width was found to be higher than the design requirement in all the specimens. In the fatigue test, the fatigue effect was insignificant even in the absence of connection rebar.
