  • The detectability of radar depends on RCS(radar cross section). The RCS for complex radar targets may be only approximately calculated by using low-frequency or high-frequency scattering methods, while the RCS for simple radar targets can be exactly obtained by applying on eigen-function method. However, the conventional methods for calculation of RCS are computationally complex. We propose an radar signal model for RCS calculation by MUSIC algorithm In this research, it is assumed that the radar target is considered as a ring of scatterers. The amplitudes of scatterers may be statistically distributed. As the result, the radar signal model is proposed to use MUSIC, and the RCS is calculated by a simple linear algebraic method.

  • The quantitative risk assessment methods for thermal failure in targets were studied using fire modeling. To this end, Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS), as a representative fire model, was used and the probabilities related to thermal damage to an electrical cable were evaluated according to the change in fire area inside a specific compartment. 'The maximum probability of exceeding the damage thresholds' adopted in a conservative point of view and 'the probability of failure' including the time to damage were compared. The probability of failure suggested in the present study could evaluate the quantitative fire risk more realistically, compared to the maximum probability of exceeding the damage thresholds with the assumption that thermal damage occurred the instant the target reached its minimum failure criteria in terms of the surface temperature and heat flux.

  • Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an inflammatory and infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus with a complex pathophysiology. While COVID-19 vaccines and boosters are available, treatment of the disease is primarily supportive and symptomatic. Several research have suggested the potential of herbal medicines as an adjunctive treatment for the disease. A popular herbal medicine approved in the Philippines for the treatment of acute respiratory disease is Vitex negundo L. In fact, the Department of Science and Technology of the Philippines has funded a clinical trial to establish its potential as an adjunctive treatment for COVID-19. Here, we utilized network pharmacology and molecular docking in determining pivotal targets of Vitex negundo compounds against COVID-19. The results showed that significant targets of Vitex negundo compounds in COVID-19 are CSB, SERPINE1, and PLG which code for cathepsin B, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1, and plasminogen, respectively. Molecular docking revealed that α-terpinyl acetate and geranyl acetate have good binding affinity in cathepsin B; 6,7,4-trimethoxyflavanone, 5,6,7,8,3',4',5'-heptamethoxyflavone, artemetin, demethylnobiletin, gardenin A, geranyl acetate in plasminogen; and 7,8,4-trimethoxyflavanone in plasminogen activator inhibitor-1. While the results are promising, these are bound to the limitations of computational methods and further experimentation are needed to completely establish the molecular mechanisms of Vitex negundo against COVID-19.

  • MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork), a network characterized that its moving nodes freely constructs Network topology, has other different characteristics. Because Policy based Network Management in MANET guarantees QoS between nodes, it is essential in applied areas like VANET which targets safety and convenience. In this paper, we use COPS-PR which is appropriate Policy Exchange Protocol for MANET, and implement DiffServ-based QoS in the real networks and experiment its capability.

  • The autopilot system targets decreasing labor, working environment, service safety security and elevation of service efficiency. Ultimate purpose is minimizing number of crew for guarantee economical efficiency of shipping service. Recently, being achieving research about Course Keeping Control, Track Keeping Control, Roll-Rudder Stabilization, Dynamic ship Positioning and Automatic Mooring Control etc. which compensate nonlinear characteristic using optimizing control technique. And application research is progressing using real ship on actual field. Relation of Rudder angle which adjusted by Steering Machine and ship-heading angle are non-linear. And, Load Condition of ship acts as non-linear element that influence to Parameter of ship. Also, because the speed of a current and direction of waves, velocity and quantity of wind etc. that id disturbance act in non-linear form, become factor who make service of shipping painfully. Therefore, service system of shipping requires robust control algorithm that can overcome nonlinearity. In this paper, Using GA algorithm, design autopilot system of ship that could overcome the non-linear factor of ship and disturbance and examined result through simulation.

  • The mission in missile systems can be conducted with multiple phases according to the characteristics of the systems and the targets. The safeguarded multi-phase mission includes a safeguarded phase before launch for considering the safety of operators in unexpected squib activation. However, the safeguard function should be disabled after launch to complete the mission. Therefore, the squib system needs to be selectively activated according to the phases. This paper presents a selective squib activation and check circuit design for safeguarded multi-phase missions in missile systems. The presented circuit design was implemented with various electronic components including a field-programmable gate array(FPGA). Its functions and performance were validated by both many ground tests and several flight tests.

  • An efficient mine management system demand constant attention of mine managers on the key performance indicators like production targets, equipment status, condition of haul roads, safety etc.. There is a wealth of information generated during day to day working of the mine. The success of a mining enterprise is a function of reliability of accumulated information and decision making on the basis of such information. In the present paper a computerized mine operations management system developed for a large opencast mine making use of the potential benefits of geographical information systems, real time kinematic global positioning systems and a communication network to improve the overall efficiency of the mine is presented.

  • Recently, agriculture in Korea is seriously depressed by economic globalization and trade liberalization because of low competitive power. Organic farming, which is favorable for small scale agriculture, is expected to be one of alternatives to boost agricultural activities in Korea. Organic agriculture requires systemic developments of new technologies considering the complex biological interaction within the system in connection with high quality and safety standard. The National Institute of Agricultural Science & Technology(NIAST) has been worked on the series of organic farming technologies, including bio-pesticides, pheromone, natural enemies as well as the testings of materials used in organic farming. NIAST will concentrate on the technological development for compromising to the conflict between commodity-oriented and ecological harmony. Research on systemic land and water use, management of plant nutrition, pest and disease control, post-harvest would also be important targets. Integrated efforts among researchers, professors, administrators, farmers, private sectors, and extension workers are substantial for fast technology development and its dissemination. Development and use of these technologies will homely enlighten the Korean organic farming although it may require quite a time and endeavor.

  • One of the major focuses and perhaps the greatest challenges during the past decade in the discipline of immunotoxicology has been the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms responsible for immunotoxicity by specific agents. Much is currently understood about the basic underlying intracellular processes that control leukocyte effector function. This fundamental information in cell biology can now be applied toward developing systematic approaches, through the application of cell and molecular biology techniques, to identify the intracellular targets and processes disrupted by immunotoxicants. The objective of this paper is two fold. First to discuss fundamental principles of experimental design aimed at elucidation of cellular mechanisms in immunotoxicology; and second to discuss the application of molecular biology techniques in characterizing the mechanism of TCDD-induced B cell dysfunction as a working example.

  • The annual expenditure on diesel oil and heavy oil in the construction sector is the second largest among all industrial sectors. To meet the government's greenhouse gas reduction targets, the construction sector has until 2020 to cut its emissions by 7.1%. Unlike other high-tech industrial sectors, the construction sector has a fairly limited scope for technological improvements, which hampers its capacity to achieve the reduction target. To reduce emissions, it is necessary to establish an energy and emissions strategy at the project planning stage, and energy use and the resulting emissions must be estimated. This research aims to establish an estimation methodology for greenhouse gas emissions at the planning stage of construction projects. To estimate the project-related emissions, this research indentified the relationship among the types of emissions in a cross-sectional matrix form, and then provided a set of calculation methods for total project related emissions.
