In the military, ammunition and explosives stored and managed can cause serious damage if mishandled, thus securing safety through the utilization of ammunition reliability data is necessary. In this study, exploratory data analysis of ammunition inspection records data is conducted to extract reliability information of stored ammunition and to predict the ammunition condition code, which represents the lifespan information of the ammunition. This study consists of three stages: ammunition inspection record data collection and preprocessing, exploratory data analysis, and classification of ammunition condition codes. For the classification of ammunition condition codes, five models based on boosting algorithms are employed (AdaBoost, GBM, XGBoost, LightGBM, CatBoost). The most superior model is selected based on the performance metrics of the model, including Accuracy, Precision, Recall, and F1-score. The ammunition in this study was primarily produced from the 1980s to the 1990s, with a trend of increased inspection volume in the early stages of production and around 30 years after production. Pre-issue inspections (PII) were predominantly conducted, and there was a tendency for the grade of ammunition condition codes to decrease as the storage period increased. The classification of ammunition condition codes showed that the CatBoost model exhibited the most superior performance, with an Accuracy of 93% and an F1-score of 93%. This study emphasizes the safety and reliability of ammunition and proposes a model for classifying ammunition condition codes by analyzing ammunition inspection record data. This model can serve as a tool to assist ammunition inspectors and is expected to enhance not only the safety of ammunition but also the efficiency of ammunition storage management.
The sanitation inspection is the most frequently used procedure to protect foods prepared in foodservice establishments. In order to enhance foodservice inspections and to improve post-inspection remedial measures, more practical evaluation methods for sanitation are required. The HACCP approach is based upon factors which contribute to foodborne disease rather than of factors which relate to aesthetics. Contributing factors for foodborne diseases from food service establishments reported in USA, Candada, and England were analyzed to identify potential hazards during practical foodservice operations. Hazards were classified at critical control points by risk ranking, Twenty-two observable practical indicators relating to each contributing factor were selected and adjusted to standardized procedures and hazard determiners at critical control points, The weights for each inspection item were ranked as 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 according to the risk level of contributing factors. And also application for the inspection item in different 6 types of work procedures were suggested for the use of specialized foodservice establishment and cafeteria, and of manager's self inspection in each establishment.

Almost 30 years have been passed since the first nuclear power plant was operated in Korea. Many studies have been actively conducted from the early 1990's in order to develop the deterioration management system for concrete structures in NPPs(Nuclear Power Plants) accordingly. Base on these studies, a systematic deterioration management program has developed and operated since 1997. According to this program, systematic inspections to provide database and evaluation were periodically performed (every overhaul at intervals of $12{\sim}18$ month and every five years). Accumulated deterioration database was usefully utilized for the NPP PSR (Periodic Safety Review). In this paper, the long-term durability and integrity of Kori 1,2 NPP concrete structures which are the oldest ones in Korea were evaluated based on the precise inspection database and regulatory inspection results including compressive strength, depth of carbonation, amount of chlorination and spontaneous potential of reinforcing bar, etc. It was noted that Kori 1,2 NPP structures have not any serious durability problems.
For assessing residual lift of the steam pipe in fossil power plants, inspections and analysis are usually focused on the critical locations such as butt welds, elbows, Y-piece and T-piece of the steam pipes. In predicting the residual life of T-piece, determination of local stress near welds considering system load as well as internal pressure is not a simple problem. In this study, stress analysis of a T-piece pipe was conducted using a three-dimensional model which represents the T-piece of a domestic fossil power station. Elastic and elastic-creep analysis showed the maximum stress level and its location. Residual creep rupture life was also calculated using the stress analysis results. It was argued that the calculated life is reasonably same as the measured one. The stress analysis results also support life prediction methodology based on in-field replication technique.
Ensuring flight safety for passengers as well as crew is the most important aspect of modern aviation, and in order to achieve this, it is necessary to be able to forecast the durability of individual components. The present contribution illustrates the results of a computational analysis to determine the possibility of analysing the prediction of bearing durability in on-board rotating equipment from the point of view of thermal fatigue. In this study, a method developed at the Air Force Institute of Technology was used for analysis, which allowed to determine the bearing durability from the flight altitude profile. Two aircraft have been chosen for analysis - a military M-28 and a civilian Embraer. As a result of the analysis were obtained: the bearing durability in on-board rotating devices, average operation time between failures, as well as failure rate. In conclusion, the practical applicability of this approach is demonstrated by the fact that even with a limited number of flight parameters, it is possible to estimate bearing durability and increase flight safety by regular inspections.
Recently, numbers of long span pedestrian suspension bridges have been constructed worldwide. While recent tragedies regarding pedestrian suspension bridges have shown how these bridges can wreak havoc on the society, there are no specific guidelines for construction standards nor safety inspections yet. Therefore, a structural health monitoring system that could help ensure the safety of pedestrian suspension bridges are needed. System identification is one of the popular applications for structural health monitoring method, which estimates the dynamic system. Most of the system identification methods for bridges are currently adapting output-only system identification method, which assumes the dynamic load to be a white noise due to the difficulty of measuring the dynamic load. In the case of pedestrian suspension bridges, the pedestrian load is within specific frequency range, resulting in large errors when using the output-only system identification method. Therefore, this study aims to develop a system identification method for pedestrian suspension bridges considering both input and output of the dynamic system. This study estimates the location and the magnitude of the pedestrian load, as well as the dynamic response of the pedestrian bridges by utilizing artificial intelligence and computer vision techniques. A simulation-based validation test was conducted to verify the performance of the proposed system. The proposed method is expected to improve the accuracy and the efficiency of the current inspection and monitoring systems for pedestrian suspension bridges.

The purpose of evaluating the fire risk of a building is to predict damage or loss of life and property in unspecified circumstances and to minimize expected damage. The fire risk assessment for buildings in Korea analyzes fire risk according to performance-oriented design under the Enforcement Decree of the Fire Facilities Act and the Fire Causing Index under the Enforcement Decree of the Multi-Use Business Act. Fire risk analysis is mainly conducted by using fire statistics or analyzing the results of safety inspections of buildings. In the case of fire statistics, it is necessary to analyze the fire risk in consideration of the degree of fire damage in each number of fires, as all fires received by the fire department are collected. In addition, it is necessary to devise fire safety measures for buildings by predicting the number of casualties that may occur due to fires in each building. Accordingly, this study aims to analyze the characteristics of casualties by building use using the number of fires judged to have grown.
This paper presents the perspective of the Structural Mechanics program of the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) on the damage assessment of structures for the period 2006-2009 when the author was serving as Program Manager at AFOSR. It is found that damage assessment of structures plays a very important role in assuring the safety and operational readiness of US Air Force fleet. The current fleet has many aging aircraft, which poses a considerable challenge for the operators and maintainers. The nondestructive evaluation technology is rather mature and able to detect damage with considerable reliability during the periodic maintenance inspections. The emerging structural health monitoring methodology has great potential, because it will use on-board damage detection sensors and systems, will be able to offer on-demand structural health bulletins. Considerable fundamental and applied research is still needed to enable the development, implementation, and dissemination of structural health monitoring technology.
