  • Recently, Since the advent of KTX, the Electric Corrosion by leakage current is on the issue. The corrosion of Underground metal establishment near KTX system causing by its high voltage current become very serious problem. So We must figure for this. For the prevention of corrosion, Many methods is on the discussion. In this paper, We studied the Sacrificial Anode in many methods for its high efficiency.

Cathodic Protection Behavior of Coastal Bridge Structure with Sacrificial Anode Cathodic Protection System (희생양극식 음극방식이 적용된 해안 교량 구조물의 방식거동)

  • This measurement represents the effectiveness of sacrificial anode cathodic protection (SACP) system in a coastal bridge structure. To verify the cathodic protection (CP) effect, the monitoring sensor (DMS-100) that could measure potential, corrosion rate, current, concrete resistivity, and temperature was embedded. The measurement conducted for three years after CP system was installed. Specifically, due to the fact that fresh water and sea water was repeated in the bridge structure, this bridge structure presented special CP behavior. Measurement factors were CP potential, CP current, concrete resistivity, and depolarization potential. In addition, visual inspection was also carried out. As a result of current and depolarization measurement, CP system was well activated in most piers.

  • Al alloy anode is mostly used for protecting marine structures such as pier steel piles and ship's body. Recently it has been reported that the life of Al alloy anode has been shortened significantly than the original design life. It is suggested that the suspected reasons for this problem mentioned above seems to be the improper protection design of alloy of anode on sea water regardless of environmental facotrs such as flow rate, temperature, contamination degree etc. However there is few paper about to the sea water contamination degree affecting to the life of Al alloy anode. In this study, the property of Al alloy anode was investigated as a parameter of sea water contamination degree such as variation of pH 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and each sea port's contaminated waters.

Study of Practical Cathodic Protection of 2nd Class Stainless Steel Shaft by means of Al Sacrificial Anode (AL계 희생양극에 의한 2종스테인리스 강축의 음극방식 실용화 연구)

  • In the case of hull material. large sized merchant ships are made of steel, on the other hand FRP or wood are used for small sized fishing boats. At present in Korea approximately 88,500 fishing boats are in operation of which 70% are made of FRP In the meantime, stainless steel is frequently used as shaft materials of the small-size FRP fishing boat. Namely, the kinds of shaft materials are STS 304(18Cr-8Ni), STS 316(18Cr-12Ni-2.5Mo steel) and STS 630(17Cr-Ni-Nb steel)etc. Among these things, STS 304 which is the cheapest and having ordinary corrosion resistance is most widely used as 2nd class shaft material. But, using STS 304 for shaft system material of the small-size FRP fishing boat on seawater environments entails a severe corrosion which causes shaft system troubles. Particularly, the corrosions tend to be concentrated of the stern and bow side, propeller shaft surface of inside of stern tube and the boat having no stern cooling pipe line system. As a solution for those problems, research on the ways to mitigate corrosion on the part of 2nd class stainless steel shaft have been undertaken. In the result, not only clarification for the reason of corrosion of the part of stainless steel shaft used mainly for the small-size FRP fishing boat was done, but also most optimal corrosion protection system was developed by experimenting shaft's protection simulation based of the electrochemical cathodic protection principle. In addition, verification through the field test on the optimal cathodic corrosion protection method by means of aluminum sacrificial anode was carried out. In this study, effective and economical shaft's protection system is suggested to the small-size FRP fishing boat operator by substantiating the results obtained from the research on the optimal cathodic protection.

  • Fiber-Reinforced Cement Composite (FRCC) is known to be effective in mechanical effects such as cracking width control as well as steel anticorrosive effect. In this study, we examined about steel anticorrosive effect by using metal fibers including zinc fibers by accelerated corrosion test. Moreover, it was examined for salt penetration, sacrificial anode effect and formation of electric circuit that was significant effect on the steel anticorrosive effect. As a result, Steel anticorrosive effect was confirmed with mixed metal fibers on FRCC. Especially, In the case of zinc fibers with a high sacrificial anode effect, it was confirmed that the suppression of penetration and corrosion resistance were improved.

  • MS(Mild Steel), HTS(High Tensile Steel), HYS(High Yield Steel), AL(Aluminum Alloy) and Composite Materials are used for vessels. Steel Materials are mostly used for vessels because body of a ship have to perform the basic functions such as watertight, preserving the strength and supporting the equipments. The vessels primarily carry out a mission at ocean, so that body of a ship is necessarily rusted. There are several methods to protect the corrosion of vessels such as painting, SACP(sacrificial anode cathodic protection) and ICCP(impressed current cathodic protection). For the sacrificial anode cathodic protection, Al and Zn alloys are normally used. Heavy metals are added to the Al and Zn Alloys for improving the corrosion properties but they are so harmful to the human and environment. Therefore, the use of these heavy metals is strictly regulated in the world. In this paper, Al and Zn Alloys are made by adding the trace elements(Ma, Ca, Ce and Sn) which is not harmful to the human and environment. SEM, XRD, Potentiodynamic Polarization test and Current Efficiency test are conducted for evaluation of Al and Zn Alloys. As a result of the experiment, Al-3Zn-0.6Sn and Zn-3Sn Alloys are more efficient than other Alloys.

Study on the Characteristics of Crevice Corrosion Prevention of SS 400 in Marine Environment (해양환경 중에서 SS400강재의 간극부식방지 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This paper was studied on the characteristics of crevice corrosion prevention of SS 400 in marine environment. In NaCl solution, polarization behavior under the crevice corrosion was investigated. And Weight loss rate of SS 400 applied cathodic protection and non cathodic protection was measured according to the NaCl concentration. The main results obtained are as follows : The weight loss rate of Al-alloy galvanic anode was increased as the concentration of NaCl solution increased by 3.5% but the concentration increased over 3.5%, that of Al-alloy galvanic anode become decreased. The protective potential of SS 400 used Al-alloy galvanic anode becomes more cathodic polarization with increasing concentration of NaCl solution. Effects of oxygen on the weight loss rate of Al-alloy sacrificial anode for cathodic protection as the concentration of 3.5% NaCl solution become sensitive than that of 0% NaCl solution.
