  • A novel and universal method of video image text detection is proposed. A coarse-to-fine text detection method is implemented. Firstly, the spectral clustering (SC) method is adopted to coarsely detect text regions based on the stationary wavelet transform (SWT). In order to make full use of the information, multi-parameters kernel function which combining the features similarity information and spatial adjacency information is employed in the SC method. Secondly, 28 dimension classifying features are proposed and support vector machine (SVM) is implemented to classify text regions with non-text regions. Experimental results on video images show the encouraging performance of the proposed algorithm and classifying features.

  • Because a wide variety of multimedia services are provided through personal wireless communication devices, the demand for efficient bandwidth utilization becomes stronger. This demand naturally results in the introduction of the variable bitrate speech coding concept. One exemplary work is the selectable mode vocoder (SMV) that supports speech/music classification. However, because it has severe limitations in its classification performance, a couple of works to improve speech/music classification by introducing support vector machines (SVMs) have been proposed. While these approaches significantly improved classification accuracy, they did not consider correlations commonly found in speech and music frames. In this paper, we propose a novel and orthogonal approach to improve the speech/music classification of SMV codec by adaptively tuning SVMs based on interframe correlations. According to the experimental results, the proposed algorithm yields improved results in classifying speech and music within the SMV framework.

  • In this paper, we propose an intelligent CCTV technology which is applied to a recent attracted attention real-time object detection technology in a disaster alarm system. Natural disasters are rapidly increasing due to climate change (global warming). Various disaster alarm systems have been developed and operated to solve this problem. In this paper, we detect object through Neuron Network algorithm and test the difference from existing SVM classifier. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm overcomes the limitations of existing object detection techniques and achieves higher detection performance by about 15%.

  • This paper presents machine learning methods using Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) to analyze optimal damper distribution for structural vibration control. Regarding different building structures, a genetic algorithm based optimization method is used to determine optimal damper distributions that are further used as training samples. The structural features, the objective function, the number of dampers, etc. are used as input features, and the distribution of dampers is taken as an output result. In the case of a few number of damper distributions, multi-class prediction can be performed using SVM and MLP respectively. Moreover, MLP can be used for regression prediction in the case where the distribution scheme is uncountable. After suitable post-processing, good results can be obtained. Numerical results show that the proposed method can obtain the optimized damper distributions for different structures under different objective functions, which achieves better control effect than the traditional uniform distribution and greatly improves the optimization efficiency.

  • This study focuses on detection of malicious code through AndroidManifest permissoion feature extracted based on Android static analysis. Features are built on the permissions of AndroidManifest, which can save resources and time for analysis. Malicious app detection model consisted of SVM (support vector machine), NB (Naive Bayes), Gradient Boosting Classifier (GBC) and Logistic Regression model which learned 1,500 normal apps and 500 malicious apps and 98% detection rate. In addition, malicious app family identification is implemented by multi-classifiers model using algorithm SVM, GPC (Gaussian Process Classifier) and GBC (Gradient Boosting Classifier). The learned family identification machine learning model identified 92% of malicious app families.

  • In the real-time automatic face recognition technique, accurate face detection is essential and very important part because it has the effect to face recognition performance. In this paper, we use color information, edge information, and binary information to detect candidate regions of eyes from Input image, and then detect face candidate region using the center point of the detected eyes. We verify both eye candidate region and face candidate region using Support Vector Machines(SVM). It is possible to perform fast and reliable face detection because we can protect false detection through these verification process. From the experimental results, we confirmed the Proposed algorithm in this paper shows excellent face detection rate over 99%.

  • With changes in insulated defects, the environment, and so on, new partial discharge (PD) data are highly different from the original samples. It leads to a decrease in on-line recognition rate. The UHF signal and pulse current signal of four kinds of typical artificial defect models in gas insulated switchgear (GIS) are obtained simultaneously by experiment. The relationship map of ultra-high frequency (UHF) cumulative energy and its corresponding apparent discharge of four kinds of typical artificial defect models are plotted. UHF cumulative energy and its corresponding apparent discharge are used as inputs. The support vector machine (SVM) incremental method is constructed. Examples show that the PD SVM incremental method based on simulated annealing (SA) effectively speeds up the data update rate and improves the adaptability of the classifier compared with the original method, in that the total sample is constituted by the old and new data. The PD SVM incremental method is a better pattern recognition technology for PD on-line monitoring.

  • Least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) is a kernel trick gaining a lot of popularities in the regression and classification problems. We use LS-SVM to propose a iterative algorithm for a nonlinear generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity model in the mean (GARCH-M) model to estimate the mean and the conditional volatility of stock market returns. The proposed method combines a weighted LS-SVM for the mean and unweighted LS-SVM for the conditional volatility. In this paper, we show that nonlinear GARCH-M models have a higher performance than the linear GARCH model and the linear GARCH-M model via real data estimations.

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal gives a clear indication whether the heart is at a healthy status or not as the early notification of a cardiac problem in the heart could save the patient's life. Several methods were launched to clarify how to diagnose the abnormality over the ECG signal waves. However, some of them face the problem of lack of accuracy at diagnosis phase of their work. In this research, we present an accurate and successive method for the diagnosis of abnormality through Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), QRS complex detection and Support Vector Machines (SVM) classification with overall accuracy rate 95.26%. DWT Refers to sampling any kind of discrete wavelet transform, while SVM is known as a model with related learning algorithm, which is based on supervised learning that perform regression analysis and classification over the data sample. We have tested the ECG signals for 10 patients from different file formats collected from PhysioNet database to observe accuracy level for each patient who needs ECG data to be processed. The results will be presented, in terms of accuracy that ranged from 92.1% to 97.6% and diagnosis status that is classified as either normal or abnormal factors.

  • Biomedical image is often complex. An applied image analysis system should deal with the images which are of quite low quality and are challenging to segment. This paper presents a framework for color cell image segmentation by learning and classification online. It is a robust two-stage scheme using kernel method and watershed transform. In first stage, a two-class SVM is employed to discriminate the pixels of object from background; where the SVM is trained on the data which has been analyzed using the mean shift procedure. A real-time training strategy is also developed for SVM. In second stage, as the post-processing, local watershed transform is used to separate clustering cells. Comparison with the SSF (Scale space filter) and classical watershed-based algorithm (those are often employed for cell image segmentation) is given. Experimental results demonstrate that the new method is more accurate and robust than compared methods.
