The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of 8 weeks of core training on dynamic posture control, lower extremity injury and proprioceptive joint position sensory in ski athletes. Twenty subjects participated in this study and were randomly divided into two groups : exercise group (Ex=10) and control group (Con=10). The core training program consisted of a bench, a sideways bench, a plank, a side bridge, and a supine bridge, and was conducted three times a week for 8 week. The dynamic posture control had a significant effect on the left and right postero-medial reach, and the lower extremity criterion test had a significant effect on the left and right composite scores. In addition, there was a significant decrease in the proprioceptive joint position sense at 15°of the left leg and 45°. In conclusion, 8 weeks a core training have been shown to improve skiers' dynamic posture control, lower extremity injury and proprioceptive joint position sensory.
Backgrounds: It was thought that sport was related with mentality. Compared to psychology, psychiatry has so far paid rather little attention to athletes. In this overview, I attempted to introduce the ideas of various observers of sports with the view of clinical psychiatry and summarized basic principle role of psychiatrist. Results and Discussions : To understand the athletic frame of mind, it is helpful to observe athletes in their psychologic development and when we do so we can quickly see trends that are not apparent by observing mature athletes alone. Psychobiology of sport would discuss some of the endogenous neurochemicals(hormone, neurotransmitter) that may be part and parcel of the athlete's psychiatric status. The psychological problems that frequently interfere with training and competition may be divided into five categories 1) choke, 2) slump, 3) injury, 4) interpersonal problem, 5) training dilemma. Psychiatric problem also arise in athletes like general people. various method for psychiatric patients like psychotherapy, group therapy, family systems perspective, and pharmacotherapy could been applied to sports psychiatry. Conclusions Although the contribution of sports psychiatry to sport is clinical one, psychiatrist's interest in role and conflict of athlete would enhance the molding of humanistic athletes who enjoy their life and sports.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mechanism of injury in the anterior cruciate ligament tears sustained in participation in soccer. Materials and methods: 50 patients whose knees were injured during playing soccer were enrolled in this study. The mean age was 27 years old, 47 were male and 3 female. 15 of them were either professional or amateur soccer players, the rest were non-professional. The injury mechanism was investigated by evaluation of the medical records or by telephone interview. Results: The injury mechanism involved contact injuries in 17 patients and non-contact in 33. 41 patients were bearing weight on the involved side at the time of injury, and 9 patients were not. In cases of contact injury, 9 of the 17 patients had sustained a valgus force to the knee, and 5 patients had varus force, 11 patients had their foot planted, and 6 did not. Among those patients with a planted foot, 3 patients were injured by the rotation of the thigh, 1 patient was injured by hyperextension, and there were no deceleration mechanism injuries. In non-contact injuries, 30 out of 33 patients had their foot planted at time of injury and only 3 patients did not. Of these 30 patients, 16 were injured by the rotation of thigh, 6 sustained a varus force on the knee joint and 5 had a valgus force, 5 were injured by hyperextension, and 2 by deceleration. 3 patients, who did not have their foot planted, were injured while kicking with the involved leg. Conclusions: For soccer players in this series, the most common mechanisms resulting in anterior cruciate ligament tears were non-contact, most often by rotation of the torso over a planted foot. In contact injuries, the most common mechanism was the application of valgus force by tackle.

Repetition of landing with visual control in sports and training is common, yet it remains unknown how landing with visual control affects postural stability and lower limb kinetics. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that landing with visual control will influence on lower limb control for intrinsic dynamic postural stability. Kinematics and kinetics variables were recorded automatically when all participants (n=10, mean age: 22.00±1.63 years, mean heights: 177.27±5.45 cm, mean mass: 73.36±2.80 kg) performed drop landings from 30 cm platform. Visual control showed higher medial-lateral force, peak vertical force, loading rate than visual information condition. This was resulted from more stiff leg and less time to peak vertical force in visual control condition. Leg stiffness may decrease due to increase of perturbation of vertical center of gravity, but landing strategy that decreases impulse force was shifted in visual control condition during drop landing. These mechanism explains why rate of injury increase.
With the increase of population, dramatic urbanization, traffic, leisure and sports, the number of maxillofacial injury has increased markedly. Subsequently the number of motor vehicle accident, sports accident and industrial accident were increased and the number of oral and maxillofacial trauma patients were also markedly increased. A clinical study on 177 patients with facial bone fracture who visited Kangnam General Hospital during 4 years(1992-1995) was done by analysing sex, cause, fracture site, treatment method, complication and involvement of other body part. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The occurrence was more frequent in male than in female with the ratio of 4.2 : 1 and most frequently in twenties. 2. Violence was the most common cause of facial bone fracture. 3. Mandible was the most frequently occurred site and there were more cases of simple fracture(81.9%) than cases of compound fracture. 4. Simple fracture was most frequently occurred(44.0%). 5. In mandible fracture, simple fracture was 86.1%, fracture site was average 1.5 sites, most frequently in symphysis. 6. As treatment methods, open reduction(78.5%) was used more frequently than closed reduction(21.5%). 7. Post-operative complication occurred in 29.4% of the cases. 8. Other injuries that were related to maxillofacial fracture occurred in 28.2%.
Anterior tibial diaphyseal stress fracture have a propensity for delayed union or nonunion and have risk of complete fracture after minor trauma. So, careful evaluation and optimal management are mandatory to succeed in treatment. It is also important to decide the point of time of return to full activity. We report experience of treatment for complete fracture of the delayed union of anterior tibial diaphyseal stress fracture as an athletic injury.
The wrist joint was consisted with various bones, ligaments, and muscles. The wrist joint is difficult to understand, because of its complicated anatomical structure. The wrist joint is not one space but three joints; radiocarpal joint between distal radioulnar and proximal carpal bone, midcarpal joint between proximal and distal carpal bone, and distal radioulnar joint between distal radius and ulnar head. Normally each joint is separated from each other. Exact understanding about normal anatomy of the wrist joint is necessary for treatment of disease and injury in wrist joint. In this reviews, we will see normal anatomy of the wrist joint.
Forefoot injuries are common in runners or martial art athletes, but due to the anatomical stability, collateral ligament injury of the hallucal interphalangeal joint has been rarely reported. We report a college Taekwondo athlete with chronic varus instability of the hallucal interphalangeal joint due to chronic lateral collateral ligament rupture. The patient had been treated with lateral ligament reconstruction and achieved good clinical outcome.
The shoulder is a complex joint and, by virtue of having a large range of motion, is inherently unstable, relying on the surrounding soft tissue structures for stability. The bony joint consists of the glenoid, acromion, and humoral head, while the soft tissues include the glenoid labrum, the glenohumeral ligaments. and coracoacromial ligament as well as the muscles of the rotator cuff, the long head of the biceps, and the scapulothoracic muscles. Dysfunction in any one of these components can cause shoulder problems. The throwing motion involves a series of phases that stress to their limits the dynamic and static restraints of the glenohumeral and scapulothoracic joints. . Therefore, maintaining a balance of proper biomechanical forces is essential to avoiding shoulder injuries in throwing athletes. Over the last decade, signficant advances have been made in the study and understanding of the shoulder mechanics, and pathophysiology of injury. Additionally, advances in surgical techniques, particularly arthroscopy , have aided in the diagnosis of and the developement of less invasive surgical treatments for injuries that do not respond to nonoperative measures. In this article, we reviewed the pathophysiology of injuries , diagnostic techniques, and surgical management of shoulder injuries in throwing athletes .
Avulsion of the ischial tuberosity is an acute injury caused by sudden contraction of the hamstrings, typically occurs in early adolescence, whereas ischial apophysitis has a more insidious onset during times of increased activity and its diagnosis is often missed. Authors present a rare case of having neglected avulsion fracture of the the ischial tuberosity in one side and ischial apophysitis in the other side with characteristic radiological features in a 16-year-old male who was an active Tae-Kwon-Do player.
