La(Sr)Fe(Co)O3-δ 침지법을 이용한 양극 지지형 SOFC 제조 및 출력 특성 (Characterization and Fabrication of La(Sr)Fe(Co)O3-δ Infiltrated Cathode Support-Type Solid Oxide Fuel Cells)

  • To overcome the limitations of the conventional Ni anode-supported SOFCs, various types of ceramic anodes have been studied. However, these ceramic anodes are difficult to commercialize because of their low cell performances and difficulty in manufacturing anode-support typed SOFCs. Therefore, in this study, to use these ceramic anodes and take advantage of anode-supported SOFC, which can minimize ohmic loss from the thin electrolyte, we fabricated cathode support-typed SOFC. The cathode-support of LSCF-YSZ was prepared by the acid treatment of conventional Ni-YSZ (Yttria-stabilized Zirconia) anode-support, followed by the infiltration of LSCF to YSZ scaffold. The composite of $La(Sr)Ti(Ni)O_3$ and $Ce(Mn,Fe)O_2$ was used as the ceramic anode. The fabricated cathode-supported button cell showed a relatively low power density of $0.207Wcm^{-2}$ at $850^{\circ}C$; however, it is expected to show better performance through the optimization of the infiltration rate and thickness of LSCF-YSZ cathode-support layer.

Ni/CGO Cermet Anode의 특성 최적화 (Property Optimization of Ni/CGO Cermet Anodes)

  • Ni/CGO cermets were fabricated as the anode for SOFC which uses CGO as the electrolyte. And their electrical conductivity, electrochemical reactivity, and thermal expansion coefficient were optimized through the variation of NiO/CGO particle size ration and their composition. The electrical conductivity of the cermet was increased abruptly at a certain Ni content and the percolation concentration was decreased with the decreasing particle size ratio. Anodic overpotential was also decreased with the decreasing particle size ratio. For a fixed ratio it showed a minimum value at 50 wt.%. Thermal expansion coefficient was increased monotonically with increasing Ni contents, however it did not depend on the size ratio. With three properties taken into account, the cermet of particle size ration of 0.03 and composition of 50 wt.% was judged to be optimal as the anode.

  • The molten carbonate fuel cell has conspicuous feature and high potential in being used as an energy converter of various fuel to electricity and heat. However, the MCFC which use strongly corrosive molten carbonate at 650$^{\circ}C$ have many problem. Systematic investigation on corrosion behavior of Fe/20Cr/Ti alloys has been done in (62+38)mol% (Li+K)CO$_3$ melt at 923K by using steady state polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy method. And, The research and development for the solid oxide fuel cell have been promoted rapidly and extensively in recent years, because of their high efficiency and future potential. Therefore this paper describes the manufacturing method and characteristics of anode electrode for SOFC, by the way, Ni-YSZ materials are used as anode of SOFC widely. So in this experiments, we investigated the optimum content of Ni, by the impedance characteristics, overvoltage. As a result, the performance of Ni-YSZ anode(47vo1%) was bettor excellent than the others.

  • SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) Ni-YSZ anode was fabricated by the spark plasma sintering (SPS) process and its microstructure and electrical properties were investigated in this study. The spark plasma sintering process was carried out at $800{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$ for holding time of 5 min under 40 MPa. To fabricate Ni-YSZ anode, the SPS processed specimens were reduced at $800^{\circ}C$ under $H_2$ atmosphere. The reduced specimens showed relative density of $48.4{\sim}64.8%$ according to sintering temperature. And also, the electrical conductivity of reduced specimens after sintering at 900 and $1000^{\circ}C$ showed $480{\sim}600$ (S/cm) values at the measuring range of $600{\sim}900^{\circ}C$.

  • 고체산화물연료전지(SOFC) cell은 cathode, electrolyte 및 cathode층으로 구성되어져 있는데, 이 cell의 적층은 EVD, CVD, sputtering등의 기상공정과 screen printing, tape casting, dip coating등의 습식 공정으로 제조한다. 적층 공정의 경우 supports의 크기와 형태에 따라 적용에 어려움이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 적층공정의 문제점을 해결코자 전사지를 제조하여 평관형 anode supports 위에 적층하여 cell을 제조하였다. 전사지를 이용한 적층방법은 매우 간단하고 두께와 형상제어가 쉽게 가능하였다. 본 연구를 상세히 언급하면 평관형 anode 지지체를 압출법을 통해 제작하였고, 반소된 지지체 위에 anode function layer와 electrolyte(YSZ)층을 형성한 후 $1400^{\circ}C$ 동시 소결하여 치밀한 전해질 층을 형성하였다. 그 후 cthode층을 형성한 후, $1200^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 소결하여 porous한 전극층을 형성하여 cell을 제작하였다. 그 후 Anode supporter위에 전사지를 이용하여 적층한 경우 cell 소결정도를 SEM으로 관찰하였고, 전기화학특성으로는 출력과 분극저항을 측정하였다. 이를 통해 새로운 구성소재 증착방법 즉 전사지를 이용하는 방법을 개발하였다.

  • Mechanical and electrical performance of anode-supported SOFC single cells were analyzed after thermal cyclic operation. The experiments of thermal cyclic cell-operation were carried out four times and performance of each cell was measured at different temperatures of 650, 700, and $750^{\circ}C$, respectively. As increasing the number of thermal cycle test, single cells showed poor I-V characteristics and lower 4-point bending strength. The anode polarization was also measured by AC-impedance analysis. The observation of the microstructure of the anodes in single cells proved that the average particle size of Ni decreased and the porosity of anode increased. It is thought that the thermal cycle caused the degradation of performance of single cells by reducing the density of three-phase boundary region.

  • 본 연구에서는 유체유동해석프로그램인 Fluent를 이용하여 연료극 지지채식 관형 고체산화물 연료전지(SOFC)에서의 연결재 구조에 따른 성능 변화를 고찰하였다. 실험적 사실과 부합되는 이론적 결과를 확보하기 위해서는 전기적으로 전극과 하나로 되어있는 연결재의 구조가 전지 성능에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살피는 것이 중요하다. 두께가 작은 연결재가 단전지 성능을 우수하게 하는 것으로 보아 옴(ohmic) 저항에 직결되는 연결재의 두께가 전지 성능에 있어 주요 변수임을 확인하였다. 일정 두께로 고정된 조건 하에 연결재 폭을 변화시킨 경우, 전지 성능은 상대적으로 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 이는 본 연구에서 고려한 SOFC의 관형 구조 특성상 연결재의 폭으로는 원주 방향으로 흘러가는 전류 경로를 효과적으로 단축시킬 수 없기 때문으로 사료된다.

Issues Related to the Modeling of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Stacks

  • This work involves a method for modeling the flow distribution in the stack of a solid oxide fuel cell. Towards this end, a three dimensional modeling of the flow through a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) stack was carried out using the CFD analysis. This paper examines the efficacy of using cold flow analysis to describe the flow through a SOFC stack. It brings out the relative importance of temperature effect and the mass transfer effect on the SOFC manifold design. Another feature of this study is to utilize statistical tools to ascertain the extent of uniform flow through a stack. The results showed that the cold flow analysis of flow through SOFC might not lead to correct manifold designs. The results of the numerical calculations also indicated that the mass transfer across membrane was essential to correctly describe the cathode flow, while only temperature effects were sufficient to describe the anode flow in a SOFC.
