Antioxidative and Physiological Activity of Extracts of Angelica dahurica Leaves (구릿대 잎 추출물의 항산화 효과 및 생리활성)

  • This study prepared extracts of Angelica dahurica leaves using reflux water extraction (RW), reflux ethanol extraction (RE) and pressure heating water extraction (PW). The extracts were extraction for levels of polyphenol compounds, antioxidant activities, and inhibitory potencies for xanthine oxidase and tyrosinase. The PW extraction method yielded the highest content of polyphenol compounds (95.23 mg/g). The electron donating abilities (EDAs) of RE and PW extracts were 76.02% and 70.08% respectively. The superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activities were 13.45 19.00%, when extracts were assayed at 1 mg/mL. The nitrite scavenging ability (pH 1.2) of the PW extract was 54.33% higher than levels shown (44.24%) by the RE and RW extracts. The inhibition of xanthine oxidase by the RW extract was highest (99.71% at 5 mg/mL) while that of the PW extract was over 97% at 500 g/mL. Tyrosinase inhibition was highest in the RE extract (46.25% at 5 mg/mL). All extracts showed dose-dependent inhibitory activities. The results indicated that the PW extract had the highest polyphenol content, the RW and RE extracts had the best nitrite scavenging ability, and the RE extract showed the most pronounced effect on EDA, SOD-like activity and tyrosinase inhibition.

Physiological activitive of Grifola frondosa by log cultivation and bottle cultivation (원목재배와 병재배 잎새버섯(Grifola frondosa)의 생리활성)

  • This research was carried out to determine the differences of physiological activites between Grifola frondosa of log cultivation(LC) and Grifola frondosa of bottle cultivation(BC). Total flavonoids content, total phenolics content, electron donating ability(EDA), nitrite-scavenging ability(NSA), SOD-like activity and inhibitory effect of Xanthine oxidase were examined. The highest value of total flavonoid content is $5.96{\pm}0.81mg/g$ in water extract from Grifola frondosa of log cultivation at $40^{\circ}C$ (LC-W40) but, one of total phenolics compound is $44.53{\pm}0.89mg/g$ in water extract from Grifola frondosa of bottle cultivation at $40^{\circ}{\cdots}$ (BC-W40). The EDA using DPPH of BC-W40 extract showed the highest value of $97.14{\pm}0.71%$. Nitrite-scavenging ability was $62.55^{\circ}{\ae}0.36%$ in extract from Grifola frondosa of BC-W40 at pH 1.2. The value was SOD-like activity showed the highest value of $18.95^{\circ}{\ae}1.39%$ in extract from LC-W40. Xanthine oxidase inhibitory activity was the highest value of $54.31{\pm}0.40%$ in extract from Grifola frondosa BC-W40, and dependent on concentrations. These results showed that a the antioxidant effects of Grifola frondosa is excellent. However, physiological activities of Grifola frondosa were not depend on caltivation method regulary, and were different according to kind of solvents, concentraitions and physialogical factors examined such as EDA, SOD-like activity and NSA.

Effect of Ethanol Extracts in Pinus densiflora, Lithospermum erythrorhizon on the Lipid Oxidation of Oil Emulsion (식물체(솔잎, 자초)의 에탄올 추출물이 유탁액의 지방산화에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of ethanol extracts on lipid oxidation of oil emulsion. The results are as follows; The scavenging ability of plant extracts for hydroxyl radical was found, and plant extracts played an important role as a strong chelating agents to bind iron if Fe2+ ion exists in oil emulsion. Pinus densiflora(PD), Lithospermum erythrorhizon(LE) and PD+LE acted as strong chelating agents to bind iron to reduce lipid oxidation in oil emulsion. The content of Fe2+ ion in ethanol extracts from LE and PD+LE were significantly higher(p<0.05) than that of ethanol extracts from PD. The content of total iron has same tendency. The ascorbic acid content of PD(16.36ppm) was slightly higher than those of LE(13.08ppm). Electron donating ability of PD was significantly higher(p<0.05) than those of LE. However, the superoxide(SOD) like ability of LE showed a little higher than those of LE and PD+LE, which means the strong antioxidant activity of LE. The nitrite scavenging effects were dependent on pH value, however, they decreased as pH value increased. Especially, they almost didn't show the nitrite scavenging effect in pH 6.0. In conclusion, the PD and LE extracts may be used as natural antioxidant sources to reduce lipid oxidation in oil emulsion.

Optimization for Functional Properties of Cabbage Extracts (썸머파워 양배추 추출물의 기능적 특성 최적화)

  • This study was conducted to optimize the extraction conditions from cabbage by a response surface methodology. In extraction conditions based on the central composite design with variations, the ratio of solvent to sample ($10\~30$mL/g), ethanol concentration ($0\~100\%$) and extraction temperature ($35\~95^{circ}C$) coefficients of determinations ($R^2$) were 0.8162(p<0.1), 0.8173(p<0.1), 0.9374(p<0.01) and 0.9116(p<0.05) in extraction yield, electron donating ability, tyrosinase inhibition and SOD-like ability, respectively. Estimated extraction conditions for the maximizing yield, electron donating ability and SOD-like ability were $15\~30$ mL/g in ratio of solvent to sample, $40\~80\%$; ethanol concentration, and $50\~90^{\circ}C$ ; extraction temperature. Predicted values at the optimum condition (25 mL/g solvent to sample, $50\%$ ethanol concentration and $70^{\circ}C$ in extraction temperature) were in good agreement with observed values.

The Antioxidative and Nitrite Scavenging Ability of Solvent Extracts from Wild Grape (Vitis Coignetiea) Skin (머루 과피 용매추출물의 항산화성 및 아질산염 소거작용)

  • This study was worked out to investigate antioxidant activity of solvent extracts from wild grape skin by measuring electron donating ability (EDA), reducing power, superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and nitrite scavenging ability. Total phenolic compound and flavonoids contents were the highest in ethyl acetate extract, $54.4{\pm}1.18\;mg/100\;g$ and $645.1{\pm}5.05\;mg/100\;g$, respectively. The EDA and reducing power of solvent extracts from wild grape skin were proportionally increased with concentration and ethyl acetate extract $(79.2{\pm}0.06%)$ showed the stronger than BHT $(74.1{\pm}0.15%)$ at concentration of $100\;{\mu}g/mL$, especially. SOD-like ability of ethyl acetate $(25.1{\pm}0.41%)$ and butanol $(20.2{\pm}0.13%)$ extracts were stronger than other extracts at concentration of $100\;{\mu}g/mL$. TBARS of ethyl acetate extract was higher than ascorbic acid. Nitrite scavenging ability of solvent extracts from wild grape skin (pH 2.5, $1000\;{\mu}g/mL$) were in order of ethyl acetate $(90.5{\pm}0.75%)$>butanol $(65.9{\pm}2.16%)$>hexane $(58.1{\pm}1.74%)$>chloroform $(55.4{\pm}1.02%)$>water $(40.9{\pm}0.35%)$. Antioxidant activity of solvent extracts from wild grape skin was the highest in ethyl acetate extract from the results of our experiments.

  • This study aims to compare and analyze a willow tree (Salix Koreensis andersson) extract's antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity by investigating its: total polyphenol, flavonoid content, SOD-like activity, DPPH vitality. the willow tree was induced with LPS to determine its active anti-inflammatory effects. as a result, the willow methanol extract showed a higher total polyphenol and flavonoid content than those of willow distilled water extract, but the willow distilled water extract showed a higher SOD than that of willow methanol extract. in its DPPH scavenging ability, the willow methanol extract's antioxidant activity was higher than that of the willow distilled water extract. the willow extract's measurements such as the production of NO, inflammatory cytokine ($TNF-{\alpha}$, IL-6 measurement) were significantly reduced as its concentration level went down. according to the research outcomes, when induced, he will extract's macrophage produces mediator-like substances such as NO and inflammatory cytokine that can be used to alleviate the inflammatory response. therefore, the willow tree proved to be a useful raw plant material for the products designed to combat inflammatory activities due to its natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory response substances such as NO and cytokine.

Characterization of Antioxidants Extracted from Leaves of Sanjook(Sasa boreails var. chiisanensis) (산죽잎으로 부터 추출한 항산화물질의 특성)

  • For usage of natural antioxidants, sanjook (Sasa boreails var. chiisanensis) leaves were extracted with methanol and investigated about its antioxidative activities and stability. It showed that the antioxidant activity of methanol extracts from the leaves of sanjook depend on their concentration within range of 0.1 to 0.8 mg/ml. The methanol extracts from the leaves of sanjook represented $583{\mu}g/ml$ for $IC_{50}$ of DPPH radical scavenging ability, $800{\mu}g/ml$for $IC_{50}$ of SOD-like activity and $38{\mu}g/ml$for $IC_{50}$ of $H_{2} O_{2}$ scavenging ability, while BHT, as a compared substance, was $271{\mu}g/ml$ for $IC_{50}$ of DPPH radical scavenging ability, $680{\mu}g/ml$ for $IC_{50}$ of SOD-like activity and $30{\mu}g/ml$ for $IC_{50}$ of $H_{2} O_{2}$ scavenging ability, respectively. The anti-au-toxidation effect for methanol extracts from the leaves of sajook was $55\∼60\%$ within range of 0.1 to 0.8 mg/ml. The pH stability on methanol extracts from the leaves of sanjook was most stable at pH 6. The more acid or akali it became, the more unstable it turned. The thermostability on methanol extracts from the leaves of sanjook remained above $80\%$ of their DPPH activity at range of $0^{\circ}C{\;}to{\;}120^{\circ}$.

Nutritional Properties of Yakju Brewed with Natural Plants (천연식물류를 첨가한 약주의 영양학적 특성)

  • Nutritional characteristics and antioxidation effects of Yakju brewed with natural plants(fine tree leaves, bamboo leaves, ginger, cinnamon and licorice root) were tested. With regard to the contents of phenolic compound, Yakju brewed with natural plants was about 1.7 times higher than Yakju which were not brewed with natural plants. In Yakju brewed with natural plants, lactose content was the highest but maltose was not detected. Minerals were detected in the order of P>K>Mg>Ca>Fe and the content of Fe and Na had a little changes during its 30 days storage. Amino acid contents were getting lower during storage. They were about 28% lower compared 3 days with 30 days storage. Electron donating ability of Yakju and its diluents were tested by DPPH. It was found that the electron donating ability of Yakju was lower as the dilution ratio got higher and as the storage terms got longer. Also, Yakju brewed with natural plants has 95.7∼96.7% of electron donating ability during 30 days storage without regard to its dilution ratio. Superoxide dismutase(SOD) like activity was in inverse proportion to dilution ratio and storage days. The highest SOD like activity was shown 51.5% and 53.9% in 3 days storage Yakju brewed with natural plants and in its 2 times diluents, respectively.

Antioxidative Activity and Physiological Function of the Angelica dahurica Roots (백지의 항산화성 및 생리기능)

  • We analyzed the contents of polyphenol compounds, the antioxidant activity and the physiological activity to investigate the functional effects of extracts from Angelica dahurica by the reflux water extraction (RW), reflux ethanol extraction (RE) and pressure heating water extraction (PW). The content of phenolic compounds of PW was the highest at 156.30 mg/g, and those of RW and RE were 31.69 mg/g and 26.34 mg/g, respectively. The electron donating ability (EDA) were in the range of 30.56% $\sim$ 52.74% and superoxide dismutase (SOD) like activity were 10.96% $\sim$ 23.24% at 1,000 ${\mu}g/mL$. The nitrite scavenging ability of PW at pH 1.2 was 61.47%, higher than those of RW (16.81%) and RE (17.78%). The xanthine oxidase inhibitory were 90.91% and tyrosinase inhibitory rate of RE was the highest (51.71%) at the concentration of 5,000 ${\mu}g/mL$. All extracts were increased with increments of the extract concentrations.

Study on the Alleviation of an Alcohol Induced Hangover and the Antioxidant Activity by Mulberry Fruit (오디 추출물의 알코올 분해능 및 항산화 효과)

  • This study investigated the effects of mulberry fruit extract on antioxidant activities and the alleviation of an alcoholinduced hangover, which was measured with alcohol dehydrogenase(ADH) enzyme activity. The antioxidative capacity of each mulberry extract was measured by total phenolic compounds, electron donating ability, superoxide dismutase-like ability, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, and nitrite scavenging ability. The 60% methanol extract yielded the highest total phenolic compounds. The electron donating ability of the 40% ethanol and 40% methanol extracts were 68% and 67%, respectively. The superoxide dismutase-like abilities of the 40% methanol and 40% ethanol extracts were 30% and 28%, respectively, when extracts were assayed at 2.5 mg/$m\ell$. The nitrite scavenging ability of the 60% ethanol and 40% methanol extracts were 98% and 97%, respectively. The 60% ethanol extract yielded the highest ADH.
