잡음환경 하에서의 음성의 SNR 개선 (Improvement of Signal-to-Noise Ratio for Speech under Noisy Environment)

  • 본 논문에서는 잡음 환경 하에서 음성신호에 대한 신호대잡음비(SNR)를 개선하기 위한 알고리즘을 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 알고리즘은 백색잡음 및 자동차잡음 등과 같은 배경잡음으로부터 음성신호의 SNR을 개선할 목적으로 먼저 저역, 중역, 고역 SNR 대역에서 SNR을 추정한다. 다음으로 본 알고리즘은 각 대역에서 스펙트럼을 강조함으로써 잡음으로 오염된 음성신호 속에서 잡음신호를 차감한다. 백색잡음, 자동차잡음에 의하여 오염된 음성에 대하여 본 논문에서 제안한 알고리즘이 스펙트럼 차감 방법과 비교하여 양호한 신호대잡음비 값을 구하였다. 실험결과로부터 스펙트럼 차감 방법과 비교하여 백색잡음에 대하여 최대 4.2 dB, 자동차잡음에 대하여 최대 3.7 dB의 출력 신호대잡음비가 개선된 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

SNR Analyses for MSC and Camera Electronics Design for Its Improvement

  • SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) is one of the most important performance for the electro-optical camera system. This paper shows not only the SNR analyses for the MSC system, which is the payload in the KOMPSAT2 satellite, but also the trials for its improvement in the electronics circuit design. The MSC deals with one panchromatic band and four multi-spectral bands. The SNR analyses are performed based on the MSC design for the each band and assuming that the defined radiance reached directly to the sensor entrance pupil. In the SNR calculation, shot noise, dark current noise, analog electronics noise and ADC quantization noise are considered as noise sources. In these noise sources, especially, the electronics noise depends on the camera electronics design. This paper shows the camera electronics design to increase SNR and its test results as well as the SNR analyses.

  • To enhance the speech perception of hearing aid users in noisy environment, most hearing aid devices adopt various beamforming algorithms such as the first-order differential microphone (DM1) and the two-stage directional microphone (DM2) algorithms that maintain sounds from the direction of the interlocutor and reduce the ambient sounds from the other directions. However, these conventional algorithms represent poor directionality ability in low frequency area. Therefore, to enhance the speech perception of hearing aid uses in low frequency range, our group had suggested a fractional delay subtraction and integration (FDSI) algorithm and estimated its theoretical performance using computer simulation in previous article. In this study, we performed a KEMAR test in non-reverberant room that compares the performance of DM1, DM2, broadband beamforming (BBF), and proposed FDSI algorithms using several objective indices such as a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) improvement, a segmental SNR (seg-SNR) improvement, a perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ), and an Itakura-Saito measure (IS). Experimental results showed that the performance of the FDSI algorithm was -3.26-7.16 dB in SNR improvement, -1.94-5.41 dB in segSNR improvement, 1.49-2.79 in PESQ, and 0.79-3.59 in IS, which demonstrated that the FDSI algorithm showed the highest improvement of SNR and segSNR, and the lowest IS. We believe that the proposed FDSI algorithm has a potential as a beamformer for digital hearing aid devices.

Non-Foster 회로를 이용한 FM 안테나의 신호 대 잡음비 개선 (Signal-to-noise Ratio Improvement of a FM Antenna Using a Non-Foster Circuit)

  • In this paper, we demonstrate a Non-Foster matching method for an electrically small antenna to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of communication link. For the experiment, we used a general FM antenna whose resonance frequency is about 52-57 MHz and a floating type Linvill negative impedance converter(NIC)-based circuit as a Non-Foster matching element. By implementing the Non-Foster circuit to cover FM band, we can achieve a wide bandwidth matching covers 40-200 MHz. Our measurement shows 3-7 dB improvement of SNR for the same bandwidth though there are several spikes which means no improvement of SNR in the band.

기회적 빔포밍 시스템에서 채널 추정에 강인한 링크 적응 기법 (Opportunistic Beamforming with Link Anaptation Robust to Imperfect Channel Estimation)

  • 기회적 빔포밍(OBF)은 채널이 거의 변하지 않는 환경에서도 기지국에서 랜덤 빔을 발생시켜서 인위적으로 다중 사용자 다이버시티 이득을 얻는 기법이며, 궤환 정보량도 순시 SNR 정보만을 필요로 한다. 이러한 이점에도 불구하고 수신단에서의 채널 추정 오류는 부정확한 순시 SNR의 원인이 된다. 특히 추정된 SNR에 의해 선택된 AMC 레벨이 실제 채널 용량보다 큰 전송율을 요구할 때는 패킷의 손실이 불가피 하다. 본 논문에서는 채널 추정 성능을 고려하여 계산한 보수적 인자를 이용해 추정된 SNR을 인위적으로 감소시킴으로써 성능 저하를 방지하는 보수적 링크 적응 방식을 제안한다. 제안된 보수적 인자는 실제 채널 SNR과 감소된 추정 SNR의 차이의 최대값의 분산을 최소화 하도록 계산된다. 이를 위해 실제 채널 SNR과 추정된 SNR의 차이의 통계량을 수학적으로 분석하였다. 실제 LS 추정기를 적용한 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 결과 채널 추정 오류가 있는 상황에서 제안된 방식이 추정 오류로 저하된 평균 수율 성능을 두 배 이상 향상시키고, 비례적 공정 스케줄러의 공평성 성능을 손상시키지 않음도 확인하였다.

QCELP에서 중첩된 코드북 검색의 개선 (Improvement of Overlapped Codebook Search in QCELP)

  • 본 논문에서는 이동통신 시스템에서 사용할 수 있는 잡음에 강인하면서 음질이 개선된 QCELP 코드북 검색을 제안한다. 기존 QCELP는 고정 코드 북을 한 번 검색하지만, 본 논문에서는 두 번에서 다섯 번까지 검색을 하고 이를 실험해 본 결과 두 번 검색이 전송률에 따른 음질향상이 최적임을 알게 되었다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 두 번의 정밀 양자화를 통해 여기신호를 상세히 나타내므로써 음질을 향상시키는 개선된 QCELP 부호화기를 제안한다. 실험에서 잡음을 고려하지 않은 환경(강의실, 가정집, 거리, 연구실 등)에서 얻은 음성을 입력자료로 사용하고, 음질은 SNR과 segSNR을 이용하여 측정하였다. 실험 결과, 개선된 QCELP는 기존 QCELP 보다 SNR, segSNR에서 각각 38.35%, 65.51% 향상되었다.

Fabrication of a Staircase Coil with Improved SNR and Image Uniformity by Structural Changes of a Conventional Birdcage Coil at 1.5T MRI

  • The performance of radio frequency (RF) coils, used in MRI units, is determined by the image uniformity and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Birdcage and surface coils are commonly used. A birdcage coil provides a good image uniformity while a surface coil produces a high SNR. In this study, therefore, a staircase coil was designed from a standard version of a birdcage coil, with some structural changes to increase SNR while maintaining image uniformity. In phantom experiments, the improvement of the image to uniformity and the SNR increase of the staircase coil compared with the values for the birdcage coil were about 3.5% and 35%, respectively. In clinical experiment, the SNR increase of the staircase coil, compared with the value for the birdcage coil was about 40% in bone, muscle and blood-vessel tissues. These results show that the performance of the staircase coil was very improved over the standard birdcage coil in terms of SNR, and that image uniformity was maintained. Therefore, the staircase coil designed by this study should be useful in experimental and clinical l.5T MRI systems, and this coil offers an alternative method of quadrature detection.

SNR Enhancement Algorithm Using Multiple Chirp Symbols with Clock Drift for Accurate Ranging

  • A signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) enhancement algorithm using multiple chirp symbols with clock drift is proposed for accurate ranging. Improvement of the ranging performance can be achieved by using the multiple chirp symbols according to Cramer-Rao lower bound; however, distortion caused by clock drift is inevitable practically. The distortion induced by the clock drift is approximated as a linear phase term, caused by carrier frequency offset, sampling time offset, and symbol time offset. SNR of the averaged chirp symbol obtained from the proposed algorithm based on the phase derotation and the symbol averaging is enhanced. Hence, the ranging performance is improved. The mathematical analysis of the SNR enhancement agrees with the simulations.

  • 현재의 전송네트워크용량을 향상시킬때 중요하게 고려해야 할것중의 하나가 네트워크 scalability 이다. 새로운 풀 메쉬의 링 확장 방법 및 플래닝 툴을 제안하였다. 3$\sim$15 노드의 확장링에서 본 툴을 사용하여 SNR이 증진되는 것을 입증하였다. 노드의 출력신호 및 광 SNR이 제안된 NPOT에 의해 -16dBm/10dB 에서 +005dBm/21dB 로 증진되었다.

SNR Improvement of AE Signal for Detection of Gas Leak from Tubes under Vibratory Environment

  • Detection of gas leak from a tube is a very important issue in the quality control of machines such as the heat exchanger of an air-conditioner, because leakage of operating gas directly reduces the performance of machines. The acoustic emission (AE) method is a common way to detect leak of gas, however its application under the environment of mechanical vibration is restricted since most AE detectors are very sensitive to external vibration noise. In order to overcome this problem, we propose a method based on the mode analysis of the Lamb wave. In this method, the dominant Lamb mode and its frequency are found first, and then a proper band-pass filter is used to retain only this frequency component. In this way, we could improve the SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) of AE signal generated by gas leak from the tube even under vibratory environment.
