The bonding interface of the concrete slab track and cement-asphalt mortar layer plays an important role in transferring load and restraining the track slab's deformation for slab track structures without concrete bollards in high-speed railway. However, the interfacial bond-slip behavior is seldom considered in the structural analysis; no credible constitutive model has been presented until now. Elaborating the field tests of concrete to cement-asphalt mortar interface subjected to longitudinal and transverse shear loads, this paper revealed its bond capacity and failure characteristics. Interfacial fractures all happen on the contact surface of the concrete track slab and mortar-layer in the experiments. Aiming at this failure mechanism, an interfacial mechanical model that employed the bilinear local bond-slip law was established. Then, the interfacial shear stresses of different loading stages and the load-displacement response were derived. By ensuring that the theoretical load-displacement curve is consistent with the experiment result, an interfacial bond-slip constitutive model including its the corresponding parameters was proposed in this paper. Additionally, a finite element model was used to validate this constitutive model further. The constitutive model presented in this paper can be used to describe the real interfacial bonding effect of slab track structures with similar materials under shear loads.
Recently, the floating slab track that can effectively mitigate the vibration and structure-borne noise is being discussed to be adopted. The floating slab track which is a track system isolated from the sub-structure by vibration isolators. Unsimilarly to conventional track and the slab deflection is large. Therefore, the running safety and ride comfort should be investigated. Especially at slab joint since the load cannot be transferred, the possibility that the dynamic behavior of track and train became unstable is high. Thus, in general dowel bar are often installed at slab joints. To determine the appropriate dowel ratio the load transfer characteristics should be investigated. In this study, dowel bar joint is modeled by equivalent shear spring and this model is verified by comparison with experimental results. Using the proven model, the load transfer efficiency and deflection at slab joint according to dowel ratio, and stiffness and spacing of vibration isolator were examined.

A mathematical heat transfer model for the prediction of heat flux on the slab surface and temperature distribution in the slab has been developed by considering the thermal radiation in the furnace and transient conduction governing equations in the slab, respectively. The furnace is modeled as radiating medium with spatially varying temperature and constant absorption coefficient. The slab is moved with constant speed through non-firing, charging, preheating, heating, and soaking zones in the furnace. Radiative heat flux which is calculated from the radiative heat exchange within the furnace modeled using the FVM by considering the effect of furnace wall, slab, and combustion gases is applied as the boundary condition of the transient conduction equation of the slab. Heat transfer characteristics and temperature behavior of the slab is investigated by changing such parameters as absorption coefficient and emissivity of the slab. Comparison with the experimental work shows that the present heat transfer model works well for the prediction of thermal behavior of the slab in the reheating furnace.

Timber-Concrete Composite construction system consists of combining timber beam or deck and concrete with different connectors. Different fastener types are used in Timber-Concrete Composite systems. In this paper, the effects of two types of fasteners on structural behavior are compared. First, the notches were opened on timber beam, and combined with reinforced concrete slab by fasteners. This system is called as Notched Connection System. Then, timber beam and reinforced concrete slab were combined by new type designed fasteners in another model. This system is called as Notched-Slab Approach. Two laboratory models were constructed and bending tests were performed to examine the fasteners' effectiveness. Bending test results have shown that heavy damage to concrete slab occurs in Notched Connection System applications and the system becomes unusable. However, in Notched-Slab Approach applications, the damage concentrated on the fastener in the metal notch created in the slab, and no damage occurred in the concrete slab. In addition, non-destructive experimental measurements were conducted to determine the dynamic characteristics. To validate the experimental results, initial finite element models of both systems were constituted in ANSYS software using orthotropic material properties, and numerical dynamic characteristics were calculated. Finite element models of Timber-Concrete Composite systems are updated to minimize the differences by manual model updating procedure using some uncertain parameters such as material properties and boundary conditions.
This paper presents a simplified grid beam model for simulating the nonlinear response of reinforced concrete flat-plate structures. The beam elements are defined with nonlinear behavior for bending moment and torsion. The flexural stiffness and torsional strength of the beam elements are defined based on experimental data to implicitly account for slab two-way bending effects. A failure criterion that considers the interaction between the punching strength and slab flexural behavior is incorporated in the model. The effects of bond-slip of slab reinforcement on connection stiffness are examined. The proposed grid beam model is validated by simulating large-scale tests of slab-column connections subjected to concentric gravity loading and unbalanced moment. This study also determines the critical parameters for a hysteretic model used to simulate flat-plates subjected to cyclic lateral loading.

Recently, the use of biaxial hollow slab is increased to reduce noise and vibration of the floor slab. Therefore, an efficient method for the vibration analysis of biaxial hollow slab is required to describe dynamic behavior of biaxial hollow slab. A finite element analysis is one of the method to analyze the biaxial hollow slab. It is necessary to use a refined finite element model for an accurate analysis of a floor slab with an effects of the hollow shape. But it would take a significant amount of computational time and memory if the entire building structure were subdivided into a finer mesh. Thus the proposed method uses equivalent plate model in this study. Dynamic analyses of an example structure subjected to walking loads were performed to verify the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method.

Early age cracking of concrete is a widespread and complicated problem, and diverse applications in practical engineering have focused on this issue. Since massive concrete base slab composes the infrastructure of other concrete structures such as pier, concrete dam, and high rise buildings, early age cracking of that is considered as a crucial problem. In this study, finite element analysis (FEA) implemented with the age-dependent microplane model was performed. For a massive concrete base slab, cracking initiation and propagation, and deformation variation were investigated with concrete age. In massive concrete slab, autogenous shrinkage increases the risk of early age cracking and it reduces reinforcement effect on control of early age cracking. Gradual crack occurrence is experienced from exterior surface towards interior of the slab in case of combined hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage. FEA implemented with enhanced microplane model successfully simulates the typical cracking patterns due to edge restraint in concrete base slab.
In this thesis, the crack investigation, the damage investigation, the drawing check, and the structural analysis were performed on a curved hollow RC(reinforced concrete) slab bridge structure to assess the structural safety of that. From the crack investigation result, main reason of crack occurrence is guessed with travelling of the large truck. Therefore reinforcement of slab structure is necessary by using the steel plate. When structural analysis, the straight beam model, the curved beam model, and the curved plate model is used. From the results of structural analysis for curved hollow RC slab bridge, the maximum bending moment and the maximum shear force was not a difference in each models. But the vertical displacement of mid span using the curved beam model was greater than that using the other models.

Flat-plate buildings are commonly modeled as two-dimensional frames to calculate lateral drift, unbalanced moments, and shear at slab-column connections. For gravity loads. the slab-column frames are analyzed using equivalent column approach, while equivalent beam approach is typical for lateral loads. The equivalent beam approach is convenient for computer analysis, but no rational procedure exists for determining the effective width of foor slabs. At present, the determination of the equivalent slab width and its stiffness is a matter of engineering judgement. To account for cracking, overly conservative assumptions are made regarding the stiffness of the slab. A rational approach is therefore needed to realistically estimate the equivalent slab width and its stiffness for unbalanced moment and lateral drift calculations. Based on the test results of 8 interior slab-column connections, an equivalent beam model is proposed in which columns are modeled conventionally as a function of column and slab aspect ratios and the magnitude of the gravity load. the proposed approach is verified with selected experimental results and is founded to be practical and convenient for analyzing flat-plate buildings subjected to gravity and lateral loading.
In this study, a thermomechanical numerical model was developed to evaluate the stability of energy slabs. First, a wall-type energy slab was installed in a residential underground parking lot, and thermal performance tests were conducted. Based on the tests, a numerical thermohydraulics model of the energy slab was developed to accurately simulate the thermal behavior in thermal performance tests. Finally, utilizing the temperature data acquired using the developed model, a thermomechanical numerical model of the energy slab was established. The thermomechanical model was then used to simulate the thermal stresses induced by operating the energy slab. The results demonstrated a maximum thermal stress of 5,300 kPa, which highlights the need to utilize cement mortar with sufficient tensile strength to realize stable operation of the energy slab.
