Optimizing and Identification of Design Parameters of a Cylindrical Hydraulic Engine Mount by an Optimization Method (최적화 기법에 의한 원통형 유체 엔진마운트의 설계변수 동정 및 최적화)

  • In order to identify the design parameters of a hydraulic engine mount with a nonlinear characteristics, an experimental method has been used generally. The method takes a considerable time and expense because of preparing an experimental apparatus, conducting a test, and analyzing results. Therefore, this paper presents a simple method to identify the design parameters of a cylindrical hydraulic engine mount, and optimize the design parameters. The physical model and mathematical equations of the mount were derived, and values of the design parameters of the mount were identified by optimization method with minimizing difference between the analytical results with the equations and the experimental results. This method is more simpler than the conventional experiment method and identify successfully the design parameters. In addition, the technique can optimize the design parameters of the mount to improves the isolation performance of the mount.

  • J-R curve tests were performed on 1T compact specimens of SA516 Gr. 70 carbon steels under reverse cyclic loading. A Direct-Current Potential Drop (DCPD) method, one of the nondestructive techniques to detect flaw of structure, is being increasingly used for monitoring crack initiation and stable crack growth in typical fracture mechanics specimens for J-R testing. In many aspects this method is simpler than the unloading compliance method. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the J-R Curve according to the crack length measurement techniques under reverse cyclic loading. In order to prove the reliability and repeatability of the DCPD method, the crack length measured by using DCPD method was compared to one determined from unloading compliance. Consequently, this DCPD method correlated well with J-R curves and crack extension measurements determined from unloading compliance method.

  • Natural convection and radiation heat transfer in a square enclosure containing absorbing, emitting, and isotopically scattering(participating) media is studied numerically using the finite volume method. Various numerical methods are employed to analyze the radiative heat transfer. However, it is very difficult to choose the proper method. In present study, a finite volume method(FVM) and a discrete ordinates method(DOM) are compared in rectangular enclosure. The SIMPLER algorithm is used to solve the momentum and energy equations. Thermal and flow characteristics are investigated according to the variation of radiation parameters such as optical thickness and scattering albedo. The result shows that the accuracy and the computing time of FVM are better than those of DOM in regular geometry.

Adaptive Tracking of Uncertain Robotic Systems (불확실한 로보트 시스템의 적응제어)

  • A high-performance robotic controller is proposed for uncertain robots by using an adaptive control method, which guarantees the boundedness of uncertain systems with partially known uncertainty bounds. In order to improve the tracking performance of the robotic controller, a linear compensator is introduced to the robotic system which has been linearized via a nonlinear feedback. The above adaptive method is then utilized to guarantee the ultimate boundedness of the tracking errors. The performance of the robotic controller is compared with that of the computed torque method by computer simulations under uncertain environments. The simulation results show that the proposed method gives better performance than the computed torque method. Since the proposed method has a small number of parameters to be estimated, the controller is simpler to implement than other existing adaptive controller for robots. Hence, the proposed robotic control method is expected to be well suited for high-performance operation of robots under uncertain environment.

Rapid Analytical Method of Nitrite and Nitrate in Fish by Ion Chromatography

  • Rapid analytical method was investigated to determine precursors of N-nitrosamine such an nitrite and nitrate in squid(Illex illecebrosus and Sepiell maindroni), codfish(Gadus marcrocephalus)and flatfish(Paralichthys olivaceus) by ion chromatography(IC) and colorimetric methods. Recoveries of nitrite and nitrate in fish tissues were 89~98.7% and 94.1~99.8% for IC, and 98.4~103.7% and 67.7~102.2% for colori-metric method, respectively. Using IC, nitrite was not detected and nitrate was 0.89~1.23mg/kg, while using colorimetric method, nitrite and nitrate were NO~0.08mg/kg and 0.3~0.42mg/kg, respectively. Therefore, the IC method showed better recoveries, and was applicable to extract nitrite and nitrate simultaneously, and is simpler compared with colorimetric method in analyzing nitrite and nitrate from fish tissues.

Forecasting Project Cost and Time using Fuzzy Set Theory and Contractors' Judgment

  • This paper presents a new method for forecasting construction project cost and time at completion or at any intermediate time horizon of the project duration. The method is designed to overcome identified limitations of current applications of earned value method in forecasting project cost and time. The proposed method usesfuzzy set theory to model uncertainties associated with project performance and it integrates the earned value technique and the contractors' judgement. The fuzzy set theory is applied as an alternative approach to deterministic and probabilistic methods. Using fuzzy set theory allows contractors to: (1) perform risk analysis for different scenarios of project performance indices, and (2) perform different scenarios expressing vagueness and imprecision of forecasted project cost and time using a set of measures and indices. Unlike the current applications of Earned Value Method(EVM), The proposed method has a numberof interesting features: (1) integrating contractors' judgement in forecasting project performance; (2) enabling contractors to evaluate the risk associated with cost overrun in much simpler method comparing with that of simulation, and (3) accounting for uncertainties involved in the forecasting project cost.

  • In this paper, we propose a simple and relatively efficient heuristic method to determine job sequencing in the flow-shop considering multiple criteria such as processing time, due date and cost. The proposed method is applicable to the flow- shop where the jobs are released simultaneously and their processing sequence is predetermined and not changed until the whole jobs are processed. To develop this method, we mixed and modified some well-known multi-attribute decision heuristics such as the simple linear weighting scheme, the lexicographic rule and the 'elimination by aspect' rule. Some computer simulations were conducted to test the efficiency of the proposed method and it has been compared with the SWPT (Shortest Working Processing Time) rule and EDD (Earliest Due Date) rule. The results show that our method is as effective as the traditional ones in terms of mean flow time, tardiness, makespan, cycle time, machine utilization, etc., and proved to be much simpler and more flexible to be used in real situations.

  • This paper proposes a method to consider an aging failure probability and survival probability of power system components unlike uses only aging failure probability in existing mean life calculation. The estimates of the mean and its standard deviation is calculated by using Weibull distribution and each estimated parameters is obtained from Data Analytic Method (Type II Censoring). The parameter estimation using Data Analytic Method is simpler and faster than a traditional calculation method. This paper shows how to calculate the mean life and its standard deviation by the proposed method and illustrates a exactness using real historical records of generator utilities in korea.

  • This paper examines the effects on safety index analysis with Level II Second-Moment Method. The general two variable problem is examined by means of Cornell safety index ${\beta}c$ Rosenblueth-Esteva safety index ${\beta}_{RE}$ Rackwitz-Fiessler safety index by iterative method and Practical FOSM safety index ${\beta}_p$, which based partly on the concepts given by Paloheimo and Hannus, proposed the algorithm in this paper. The calculated examples have shown that safety index by Practical FOSM Method proposed in this paper would be similar to those in the method by Rosenblueth-Esteva or Rackwitz-Fissler and be simpler in calculation than the Rackwitz's Advanced FOSM Method, in which the iterative procedure has to be used.

  • In this paper, a novel fault detection method is proposed when the neutral-point-clamped inverter has a open-circuit fault in the switching device. This proposed method is configured with simple circuit and is achieved by a simple algorithm using the inherent characteristic of the continuous Pulse Width Modulation. Also, this method has the fast fault detection ability and is much simpler to embody, in comparison with conventional fault detection methods. This ability to detect fault minimizes harmful effect which are such as DC-link voltage unbalance and overstress to other switching devices. Therefore, this proposed fault detection method can improve reliability of NPC inverter system. Experimental results are presented to verify the validity of proposed fault detection method.
