Retreiving indoor scene reference image from database using visual information is important issue in Robot Navigation. Scene matching problem in navigation robot is not easy because input image that is taken in navigation process is affinly distorted. We represent probabilistic framework for the feature matching between features in input image and features in database reference images to guarantee robust scene matching efficiency. By reconstructing probabilistic scene matching framework we get a higher precision than the existing feaure-feature matching scheme. To construct probabilistic framework we represent each image as Gaussian Mixture Model using Expectation Maximization algorithm using SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transform).
Steel slabs are marked with slab management numbers (SMNs). To increase efficiency, automated identification of SMNs from digital images is desirable. Automatic extraction of SMNs is a prerequisite for automatic character segmentation and recognition. The images include complex background, and the position of the text region of the slabs is variable. This paper describes an pre-processing algorithm for detection of slab information using robust feature points extraction. Using SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transform) algorithm, we can reduce the search region for extraction of SMNs from the slab image.

이러한 문제점을 보완하기 위해 SURF(Scale Invariant Feature Transform), SIFT(Speed up Robust Features) 등의 알고리즘이 제안 되었지만, 여전히 조명변화에 불안정하고 정확하지 못한 성능을 보인다.

Multi-temporal high resolution satellite images are essential data for efficient city analysis and monitoring. Yet even when acquired from the same location, identical sensors as well as different sensors, these multi-temporal images have a geometric inconsistency. Matching points between images, therefore, must be extracted to match the images. With images of an urban area, however, it is difficult to extract matching points accurately because buildings, trees, bridges, and other artificial objects cause shadows over a wide area, which have different intensities and directions in multi-temporal images. In this study, we analyze a shadow effect on image matching of high resolution satellite images in urban area using Scale-Invariant Feature Transform(SIFT), the representative matching points extraction method, and automatic shadow extraction method. The shadow segments are extracted using spatial and spectral attributes derived from the image segmentation. Also, we consider information of shadow adjacency with the building edge buffer. SIFT matching points extracted from shadow segments are eliminated from matching point pairs and then image matching is performed. Finally, we evaluate the quality of matching points and image matching results, visually and quantitatively, for the analysis of shadow effect on image matching of high resolution satellite image.

Because most applications of vision-based object tracking demonstrate satisfactory operations only under very constrained environments that have simplifying assumptions or specific visual attributes, these approaches can't track target objects for the highly variable, unstructured, and dynamic environments like a traffic scene. An adaptive fusion framework is essential that takes advantage of the richness of visual information such as color, appearance shape and so on, especially at cluttered and dynamically changing scenes with partial occlusion[1]. This paper develops a particle filter based adaptive fusion framework and improves the robustness and adaptation of this framework by adding a new distinctive visual attribute, an image feature descriptor using SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform)[2] and adding an automatic teaming scheme of the SIFT feature library according to viewpoint, illumination, and background change. The proposed algorithm is applied to track various traffic objects like vehicles, pedestrians, and bikes in a driver assistance system as an important component of the Intelligent Transportation System.
In this paper, we propose an image retrieval algorithm for real-time processing and design it as hardware. The proposed method is based on the classification of BoWs(Bag of Words) algorithm and proposes an image search algorithm using bit stream. K-fold cross validation is used for the verification of the algorithm. Data is classified into seven classes, each class has seven images and a total of 49 images are tested. The test has two kinds of accuracy measurement and speed measurement. The accuracy of the image classification was 86.2% for the BoWs algorithm and 83.7% the proposed hardware-accelerated software implementation algorithm, and the BoWs algorithm was 2.5% higher. The image retrieval processing speed of BoWs is 7.89s and our algorithm is 1.55s. Our algorithm is 5.09 times faster than BoWs algorithm. The algorithm is largely divided into software and hardware parts. In the software structure, C-language is used. The Scale Invariant Feature Transform algorithm is used to extract feature points that are invariant to size and rotation from the image. Bit streams are generated from the extracted feature point. In the hardware architecture, the proposed image retrieval algorithm is written in Verilog HDL and designed and verified by FPGA and Design Compiler. The generated bit streams are stored, the clustering step is performed, and a searcher image databases or an input image databases are generated and matched. Using the proposed algorithm, we can improve convenience and satisfaction of the user in terms of speed if we search using database matching method which represents each object.

Existing image search systems allow users to search images by keywords, or by example images through content-based image retrieval (CBIR). On the other hand, users might learn more relevant textual information about an image from its text captions or surrounding contexts within documents or Web pages. Without such contexts, it's difficult to extract semantic description directly from the image content. In this paper, we propose an annotation watermarking system for users to embed text descriptions, and retrieve more relevant textual information from similar images. First, tags associated with an image are converted by two-dimensional code and embedded into the image by discrete wavelet transform (DWT). Next, for images without annotations, similar images can be obtained by CBIR techniques and embedded annotations can be extracted. Specifically, we use global features such as color ratios and dominant sub-image colors for preliminary filtering. Then, local features such as Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) descriptors are extracted for similarity matching. This design can achieve good effectiveness with reasonable processing time in practical systems. Our experimental results showed good accuracy in retrieving similar images and extracting relevant tags from similar images.
Previous post sender recognition study was focused on recognizing the address of receiver. Relatively, there was lack of study to recognize the information of sender's address. Post sender recognition study is necessary for the service and application using sender information such as returning. This paper did the experiment and suggested how to recognize post sender using SIFT. Although SIFT shows great recognition rate, SIFT had problems with time and mis-recognition. One is increased time to match keypoints in proportion as the number of registered model. The other is mis-recognition of many similar keypoints even though they are all different models due to the nature of post sender. To solve the problem, this paper suggested SIFT adding distance function and did the experiment to compare time and function. In addition, it is suggested how to register and classify models automatically without the manual process of registering models.
This paper compares the combination performance of feature point-based matching algorithms as a study to confirm the matching possibility between image taken by a user and a virtual texture image with the goal of developing mobile-based real-time image positioning technology. The feature based matching algorithm includes process of extracting features, calculating descriptors, matching features from both images, and finally eliminating mismatched features. At this time, for matching algorithm combination, we combined the process of extracting features and the process of calculating descriptors in the same or different matching algorithm respectively. V-World 3D desktop was used for the virtual indoor texture image. Currently, V-World 3D desktop is reinforced with details such as vertical and horizontal protrusions and dents. In addition, levels with real image textures. Using this, we constructed dataset with virtual indoor texture data as a reference image, and real image shooting at the same location as a target image. After constructing dataset, matching success rate and matching processing time were measured, and based on this, matching algorithm combination was determined for matching real image with virtual image. In this study, based on the characteristics of each matching technique, the matching algorithm was combined and applied to the constructed dataset to confirm the applicability, and performance comparison was also performed when the rotation was additionally considered. As a result of study, it was confirmed that the combination of Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT)'s feature and descriptor detection had the highest matching success rate, but matching processing time was longest. And in the case of Features from Accelerated Segment Test (FAST)'s feature detector and Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF (ORB)'s descriptor calculation, the matching success rate was similar to that of SIFT-SIFT combination, while matching processing time was short. Furthermore, in case of FAST-ORB, it was confirmed that the matching performance was superior even when 10° rotation was applied to the dataset. Therefore, it was confirmed that the matching algorithm of FAST-ORB combination could be suitable for matching between virtual texture image and real image.
In-situ measurements are labor-intensive, time-consuming, and limited in their ability to observe currents with spatial variations in the surf zone. This paper proposes an optical image-based method of measurement of currents in the surf zone. This method measures nearshore currents by tracking in time wave breaking-induced foam patches from sequential images. Foam patches in images tend to be arrayed with irregular pixel intensity values, which are likely to remain consistent for a short period of time. This irregular intensity feature of a foam patch is characterized and represented as a keypoint using an image-based object recognition method, i.e., Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT). The keypoints identified by the SIFT method are traced from time sequential images to produce instantaneous velocity fields. In order to remove erroneous velocities, the instantaneous velocity fields are filtered by binding them within upper and lower limits, and averaging the velocity data in time and space with a certain interval. The measurements that are obtained by this method are comparable to the results estimated by an existing image-based method of observing currents, named the Optical Current Meter (OCM).
