World Class SI 기업으로의 도약 : 핵심 경쟁력 확보를 위한 R&D 모델 개발 (A R&D Model for Korean SI Companies' International Competitiveness)

  • This thesis suggests a R&D model for Korean SI companies who aggressively drive oversea business to overcome domestic market limitation and to become world class SI players. Even though there have been a lot of discussions on IT technologies and new business models, scientific approach to a R&D model for SI companies is rare due to its natural distinctiveness from manufacturing and general service domain. Therefore, this will be a flagship thesis to keep up our study. As business market environment gets more competitive, major Korean SI players will be confronted with much more keen competition among themselves. And as they are willing to expand their oversea market presence, they can not help struggling against global SI players. So, here we are presenting SI players the reinforcement of R&D as one of the key components to build up their own core competencies. That is, SI players have to adopt and evaluate fast changing and complicated IT technologies at the right time, and to apply them into a real business with cost-effective service delivery and operation processes internally. The ultimate purpose of all of these activities is to offer a SI company the value added business model based on its innovative technical capabilities and well refined service deliver model. For this purpose, we suggests, SI company's R&D has to play an important role of emerging technology verification/evaluation/utilization, value added business model creation, future innovation lead, standard body participation, and effective service delivery and quality system development. To become a more effective R&D organization, hybrid R&D, in which central R&D and divisional sub R&D work together, is considered as an idea model. The reliability of the R&D model for Korean SI companies', here we suggest, has been checked by SI companies R&D specialists and on-site business people.

The Evaluation of Location Competitiveness for International Logistics Center: Case of Northeast Asia

  • The expansion on the scale of international trade and rapid economic growth in Northeast Asia have caused intense competition among global companies for securing international logistics center in Northeast Asia. Analyzing location competitiveness for international logistics center in Northeast Asia, this paper aims to extract implications for enhancing locational competitiveness. Employing the relative importance among location selection factors extracted from AHP analysis in prior study, we evaluated the major five port-cities in Northeast Asia including Busan, Gwangyang, Shanghai, Qingdao and Tokyo. In the evaluations, Shanghai (3.926) ranked as the first, followed by Busan (3.859), Qingdao (3.555), Tokyo (3.013) and Gwangyang (2.915). Furthermore, the causal relationships between determinants for location choice decision (logistics factor, cost factor, market factor, service factor and environmental factor) and dependent variables (competitiveness of international logistics center, potentiality to growth, present intention to move into and future plan to move into) were analyzed to provide implications. Results provide useful insights for further improvements, and helps strategic agenda for future development of port-cities.

A Study on Building the Regional Cluster: The Case of Fire and Emergency Industrial Cluster in Samcheok-si

  • Korea has relied on top down development method, in which companies, research and education institutions move into the industrial complexes established by the government. However, to improve local competitiveness, the paradigm is shifting from the government initiated industrial complex to the clusters based on the cooperative network of the region. Representative case is 'Samcheok-si Fire & Emergency industry cluster construction project' that begun in 2007. AHP technique analysis results on first-stage showed that priority was on policy and network elements, and the results of second-stage analysis show that priority was on Policy incentives to internationalize the cluster and strengthen link,. Cluster branding, Sharing of organizational culture to cope with changes in environment, Creation of group learning culture. The subject of this research is limited to Samcheok-si's the Fire and Emergency Industry cluster formation project. Therefore, the research area and standard should be expanded to increase generality in further researches.

  • 본 연구는 국내외를 막론하고 SI 기업의 R&D에 대한 학문적 연구가 거의 이루어지지 않은 상태에서, 국내 대형 SI 기업들이 World Class SI로 성장하는데 견인차가 되도록 최초로 SI 기업의 R&D 모델을 제시하고 있다. 현재 날로 치열해 지는 SI 시장환경에 비추어 볼 때 향후 국내 대형 SI 기업들간의 보다 치열한 경쟁은 물론이고 국내외에서 선진 IT 서비스 기업들과 경쟁이 예상된다. 본 연구에서는 국내 대형 SI 기업들이 선진 IT 서비스 기업과의 경쟁에서 살아 남으려면 핵심 경쟁력을 확보해야만 하며, 이에 대한 방안으로 연구개발의 강화를 제시한다. 즉, SI 기업은 R&D를 통해 빠르고 복잡하게 변화하는 IT 기술을 적시에 도입하여 실제 프로젝트에 적용하고, 기존의 기술 및 프로세스의 개선을 통해 생산성을 향상시키며, 궁극적으로는 새로운 서비스 모델 개발을 통해 가치를 창출하는 목적을 달성할 수 있다. 이를 위해 R&D는 부가가치 창출, 미래혁신 주도, 신기술의 검증/평가/확산 담당, 응용기술의 표준획득 및 특허취득, 프로세스와 품질의 일관성과 효율성을 확보하는 역할을 해야 한다. 이러한 R&D 역할을 효율적, 효과적으로 수행하기 위해서는 중앙 R&D와 사업부 R&D를 동시에 운영하는 Hybrid Organization을 제안하고 있다. 또한 국내 대형 SI 기업의 R&D 담당자들과 설문, 인터뷰를 통해 본 연구에서 제시한 모델의 현실 적용성을 살펴보고, 바람직한 R&D 방향성을 제시하고 있다.

Analytic Hierarchy Process Modelling of Location Competitiveness for a Regional Logistics Distribution Center Serving Northeast Asia

  • Purpose - As the global product network expands through both internationalization and diversification of the multimodal transportation system, corporate strategies have shifted to emphasize the importance of a high value-added international logistics system. To guide policies and strategies to attract relevant industries, this study aims to analyze the location competitiveness of regional logistics distribution center to serve Northeast Asia. Design/methodology - Multi-criteria techniques are considered to offer a promising framework for evaluating decision-making factors. This paper employed an analytic hierarchy process to analyze the hierarchal structure of determinants for selecting the location of a regional logistics distribution center. Adopting both qualitative and quantitative evaluations, this study suggest political implications for a regional logistics distribution center development, such as the direction of political support, service differentiation and infrastructure development. Findings - This study developed a location competitiveness evaluation model, based on the case study of the major port-cities in Northeast Asia. Evaluation model incorporates five factors underpinning 17 components extracted using factor analysis. The results revealed that the logistics factor is the most significant factor for evaluating the competitiveness of a regional logistics distribution center. The remaining factors were market, costs, and services environment. Comparing qualitative and quantitative evaluations, results provide useful insights for a regional logistics distribution center development in Northeast Asia. Originality/value - This study revealed differences between qualitative and quantitative evaluations. The finding implies that prior works on evaluation models of competitiveness has not successfully measured the gap between quantitative data and expert' evaluations. To overcome this limitation, this paper considered both actual data such as actual distance, cost, the number of companies located, and expert opinions.

IPA기법을 통한 항만배후단지 내 국제물류센터 입주결정요인 분석 (An Importance-Performance Analysis of Location Selection Factors for International Distribution Center in Port Hinterland)

  • 항만의 역할이 변화하고 그 기능이 다양화되면서 항만배후부지의 역할과 기능은 부가가치 창출뿐만 아니라 효율적인 SCM구축을 위한 국제물류의 거점으로서 그 기능과 역할이 확대되었다. 부가가치 물류활동에 대한 항만배후단지 입주 및 항만배후부지 내 부가가치물류 활동을 통한 이익 창출형 사업모델(Biz-model) 개발에 대한 기업의 관심이 증가하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 항만배후단지 내 국제물류센터의 입지경쟁력 평가요인을 도출하였다. 또한 요인분석 및 AHP 방법론 등 기존 연구들의 문제점을 보완하기 위해 IPA 기법을 적용하여 각 속성의 중요도와 만족도를 동시에 비교하고 분석한다. 분석 결과 19개의 평가요인은 지원정책, 성장잠재력, 시설활용, 시장접근성, 연결성 등을 포함하는 5개의 상부요인으로 분류되었다. IPA 기법을 통한 분석 결과 사분면에 속해있는 세부내용들은 항만과 항만의 배후단지를 연결하는 연결성, 시장접근성, 지원정책 등이 입주결정에 중대한 요인으로 작용하였으며, 정책적인 지원들은 우선 시정 노력이 필요하다고 밝혀졌다. 추가적으로, 연구결과는 사분면 내 세부 내용들에서 중요도는 높지만 만족도가 낮은 영역인 복합운송체계 구축 수준 및 효율성, 그리고 지원정책을 구성하는 인센티브 프로그램, 홍보 및 마케팅 지원, 입주 시 금융지원정책, 자유무역 시스템 및 관련 법규 등에 대한 집중적인 우선 시정 노력이 필요하다는 점을 시사한다.
