  • The mechanical behavior of a commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) is investigated at high temperature Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) compression test with high strain-rate. Tests are performed over a temperature range from room temperature to 1000$^{\circ}C$ with interval of 200$^{\circ}C$ and a strain-rate range of 1900 ∼ 2000/sec. The true flow stress-true strain relations depending on temperature are achieved in these tests. For construction of constitutive equation from the true flow stress-true strain relation, parameters for the Johnson-Cook constitutive equation is determined. And the modified Johnson-Cook equation is used for investigation of behavior of flow stress in vicinity of recrystalization temperature. The Modified Johnson-Cook constitutive equation is more suitable in expressing the dynamic behavior of a CP-Ti at high temperature, i.e. about recrystalization temperature.

  • Measuring dynamic fracture toughness of brittle and small ceramic specimen is very difficult in a SHPB (Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar). As a countermeasure to this difficulty, a dynamic fracture toughness measuring method by the Chevron-notch ceramic specimen was proposed. Tested chevron specimens were of Chevron notch angles of 90$^{\circ}$, 100$^{\circ}$ and 110$^{\circ}$. Through finite element analysis, shape parameters of the Chevron-notch specimens according to notch angles were calculated. And the static fracture tough1ess of the Chevron-notch alumina specimen was measured as 3.8MPa√m similar to that of CT specimen with a precrack. Dynamic fracture toughness was 4.5MPa√m slightly higher than the static one. It was shown in this study that the proposed Chevron-notch specimens are valid to measure dynamic fracture toughness of extremely brittle materials such as ceramic.

  • This study is about the dynamic behavior of steel(SM45C). Dynamic tests were performed using SHPB(Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar) which is designed and modified to be used in both tensile and compressive modes. Quasi-static compression tests were also carried out for the comparison to the dynamic results. Not only the dynamic mechanical properties but also the effect of the notch of the specimen on stress-strain curve were investigated. The dynamic test results reveal that strain and stress are sensitively affected by the notch. The depth and the number of notch increase the stress and decrease the strain.

  • A specific experimental method, the Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) technique has been widely used to determine the dynamic material properties under the impact compressive loading conditions with strain-rate of the order of 103/s∼104/s. This type of test procedure has been used to examine the dynamic response of materials in various modes of testing. In this paper, dynamic deformation behaviors of rubber materials widely used for the isolation of vibration from varying structures under dynamic loading are determined using a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar technique.

  • This paper investigates the compressive deformation behavior of direct metal tooling (DMT), processing titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V) parts under high strain loading conditions. Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) experiments were performed to determine the flow stress and the coefficients of the Johnson-Cook model. This model is described as a function of strain, strain rate, and temperature. SHPB experiments were performed to characterize the deformation behavior of specimens made with 3D printers, using Ti-6Al-4V material under high temperature and dynamic loading.

  • Mechanical properties of the materials used for mold and industrial machinery under high strain rate loading conditions such as high impact loading are required to provide appropriate safety assessment to varying dynamically loaded mechanical structures. The Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) technique with a special experimental apparatus can be used to obtain the material behavior under high strain rate loading conditions. In this paper, the dynamic deformation behavior of a brass under high strain rate compressive loading conditions has been determined using the SHPB technique.

  • Rock dynamics is a relatively new discipline to study the mechanical behaviors of rock materials (or rock masses) under dynamic loading conditions. Many rock mechanics and rock engineering issues are concerned with the dynamic phenomena such as mining development, civil engineering, earthquake, military science, and various disasters. The significance of rock dynamic researches has been increased in these days. This paper introduces conventional experimental techniques for rock dynamic experimental methods and the particular characteristics of rock dynamic behaviors with several remarkable recent studies.

  • This paper is concerned with a test method that can be used to investigate the parameters of the Johnson-Cook constitutive model. These parameters are essential for accurately analyzing material behavior under impact loading conditions in numerical simulation. Ti-6Al-4V alloy (HCP crytal structure) was used as a specimen for the experiments. In the $10^{-3}-10^3/s$ strain rate range, three types of experimental methods (convention, compression and tension) were employed to compare the differences using MTS-810, SHPB and SHTB. Finite element analysis results when applying these parameters were displayed along with the experiment results.
