  • As commercialization of the Internet has brought flood of information and the proportion of electronic source in the library collection has been gradually increasing, it is highly important for the library to quickly obtain and utilize the latest information. SDI service is expected to fulfill the needs providing the latest information swiftly and accurately to the digital library users. This study seeks to analyze the current standing of practical application of the SDI service in the universities of South Korea based on surveys and make a proposal on the advancement and extension of the SDI service.

  • As the Internet facilitates the rapid increase of information availability, the study on SDI service that provides users with relevant document in a timely manner has been developed. However, the practical use of this service has been low. This thesis aims at analyzing the reasons for this and developing relevance feedback based SDI system to improve the performance of the existing SDI system. Experimental systems that are developed for this study are SDI system based on users' minimum intervention feedback, SDI system based on perfect automation feedback, and SDI system based on users' maximum intervention feedback. The fourth system that utilizes the traditional SDI system is also studied to evaluate the level of performance improvement of the newly developed three types of SDI system. As a result of this study, SDI system based on users' maximum intervention feedback showed greatest performance improvement. The next performance improvement happened in order of SDI system based on perfect automation feedback, SDI system based on users' minimum intervention feedback, and the traditional SDI system. Feedback based systems showed greater performance improvement as they went through more feedback processes.

  • SDI(Selective Dissemination of Information) is on demand service to inform to the user applies a service after inputting a search strategy, when new information is obtained. This Paper propose the ways to develope the dynamic RSS channel generator for supporting SDI service. The RSS which is a kind of syndication technology enables a part or the whole of the content which it provides from web site to be able to be used in different service. It is protocol to summarize and share various contents on web site. Also, the users register the channel RSS to the RSS aggregator system and recommend it. It can drive to share of knowledge between researchers.

  • 현재의 키워드 입력방식의 정보검색 서비스는 사용자에게 다량의 정보검색 결과를 제공하여 사용자가 다시 정보를 선별하는 어려움을 준다. 본 논문은 사용자가 원하는 정보를 검색하고, 검색된 수많은 정보를 퍼지개념을 적용한 자동분류 알고리즘을 이용하여 정보를 제공하는 SDI(Selective Dissemination of Information)서비스를 설계한다. 즉, SDI서비스는 사용자가 User Profile에서 원하는 정보검색 분야에 대한 정보를 입력하면, 인터넷에 산재된 정보를 로봇을 이용하여 검색하고, 퍼지개념을 이용한 자동분류 알고리즘으로 검색된 정보를 자동 분류 및 선별하여 사용자에게 자동으로 정보를 제공하는 서비스이다.

  • Offering subject-oriented services by subject experts is an effective method of enhancing the quality of digital reference services in university libraries. However, it is not easy to implement due to the Korean librarian education system and a shortage of human resources. Thus, as an alternative, we proposed an SDI (selective dissemination of information) profiler system using the concept of a profiler which is used in crime psychology as a specialist who studies a person's behavior for clues to psychology to aid in capturing them, under the assumption that conducting SDI services is one of the subject experts' key roles. And we also mentioned the procedures and methods of how to apply it to the reference services of university libraries. The proposed SDI profiler system can change the roles of university librarians from passive to active. Furthermore, it also allows librarians to provide their clients with customized SDI services, thus improving reference services.

  • With SDI service provided in libraries and information centers traditionally, this paper studies component technologies and structure of system platform in PIS(personalization information service based on the customized information service served currently in some institutions. The PIS system should provide relevant information as an output through the learning system analyzing user information searching behavior as an input value with personal profile information. To do it, this paper studies requirements and algorithms to develop PIS, and proposes learning system and recommendation system as core components in PIS.

  • 선택적 정보 배포의 의미를 갖는 SDI(Selective Dissemination of Information)서비스는 이용자가 탐색전략을 입력하여 서비스를 신청하면 데이터베이스가 갱신될 때마다 또는 이용자가 지정한 간격으로 자동으로 질의되어 그 결과를 이용자에게 제공하는 서비스로 정의되는데, 이때 대용량의 데이터베이스로부터 복잡한 데이터 질의과정을 거친 데이터가 다수의 사용자들에게 보다 빠르게 전달할 수 있도록 하는 것이 SDI 서비스의 주요한 요구사항이 되고 논다. 본 연구는 다수의 대용량 서비스 데이터베이스를 대상으로 이용자의 요구 주제에 해당하는 정보를 빠르게 서비스하기 위하여 검색시간을 단축할 수 있는 방안으로 'SDI 서비스 전용 데이터베이스'와 '검색결과저장 데이터베이스'를 별도로 두는 시스템을 제시한다. 이를 통해 동일한 질의에 대한 데이터베이스 검색이 최소화되고 검색대상 정보의 범위가 축소되며, 아울러 서비스 대상 데이터베이스의 확장도 용이해진다.

  • Real time multimedia data services have been made possible by the rapid development of the computer and internet technology. Based on the technology, Many multimedia system developer try to use VOD(Video on Demand) and GVA technologies for distance education. However the system has mainly been developed to provide the video screen of good quality in real time and to compose contents efficiently. Not many researches and developments have been made for providing the users that is taking distance education with various types of service using VOD and GVA. Therefore In this paper we have designed and implemented an active on-demand multimedia service system to improve user-side service quality in distance education using VOD and GVA service. The on-demand multimedia service system can prominently help users to save the time and effort to search and select the studying data by this paper enables off-line search functions through E-mail and periodical current awareness service supported by PUSH technology, user oriented information booking supported by SDI service and feedback service.

  • DMB video/audio service was successfully launched. DMB data service is a matter of primary concern now. The TTI(Traffic and Travel Information) service is considered as a killer application of the data service. Tn this paper, we propose a method for design and implementation of the broadcasting system for TTI service. The proposed TTI service system consists of an authoring tool, the DB module, the Transmission module and Monitoring module. This system satisfies the national TTA standards of the Traffic and Travel Information data services for terrestrial DMB; TPEG(Transport Protocol Experts Group) platform. The system was designed to support real-time automatic transmission for CTT and CTT SUM, and non real-time authoring & automatic transmission for POI and SDI, and was focused on the capability to make high-quality contents efficiently and to send them to the data inserter reliably. The performance of the implemented system was proven through the conformance tests with the various commercial receivers. After the continuous upgrade, the system is being used in commercial service.

  • As the real time multimedia data service has become available due to the rapid progress of computer and Internet technology, the users can enjoy the newly developed service, which is called Video On-Dem-and(VOD). However, most of service providers have not paid their attention much on the software for various service modes on VOD, but they are only concentrating un the hardware to provide with the high resolution video display. Therefore, the service providers are recently to pay more attention on the software to cope with the various demands of users than hardware. So this paper has designed and implemented the VOD service system for those demands. Since the VOD service system suggested by this paper enable off-line search functions through E-mail, the users can possibly get the necessary information from off-line Search without connecting to the server while the current VOD service can prominently help users to save the time and effort to sea고 and select the Video contents by using periodical current awareness service supported by PUSH technology and user oriented information booking and feedback service supported by SDI service.
