The SNCR-SCR (selective non-catalytic reduction-selective catalytic reduction) hybrid system is an economical NOx removal system. In this study, the effect of the operating parameters of the SNCR-SCR hybrid system on NOx removal efficiency was investigated. When the SNCR reactor was operated at a temperature lower than the optimum temperature ($900{\sim}950^{\circ}C$), an additional NO removal is obtained basesd on the utilization of $NH_3$ slip. On the other hand, the SNCR reactor operated above the temperature resulted in no additional NO removal of SCR due to decomposition of $NH_3$. Therefore, the SNCR process should be operated at optimum temperature to obtain high NO removal efficiency and low $NH_3$ slip. Thus, it is important to adjust NSR (normalized stoichiometric ratio) so that $SR_{RES}$ can be maintained at an appropriate level.
Thermodynamic evaluation indicates that nearly 100% conversion of elemental mercury to oxidized mercury can be attained by HCl of several tens of ppm level at the temperature window of SCR reaction. Cu-, Fe-, Mn-chloride loaded $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ catalysts revealed good NO removal activity at the operating temperature window of SCR process. The catalysts with high desorption temperature indicating adsorption strength of $NH_3$ revealed higher NO removal activity. The HCl fed to the reaction gases promoted the oxidation of mercury. However, the activity for the oxidation of elemental mercury to oxidized mercury by HCl was suppressed by $NH_3$ inhibiting the adsorption of HCl to catalyst surface under SCR reaction condition containing $NH_3$ for NO removal. Metal chloride loaded $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ catalysts showed much higher activity for mercury oxidation than $V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2$ catalyst without metal chloride under SCR reaction condition. This is primarily attributed to the participation of chloride in metal chloride on the catalyst surface promoting the oxidation of elemental mercury.

CuCl2-loaded V2O5-WO3/TiO2 catalyst showed excellent activity in the catalytic oxidation of elemental mercury to oxidized mercury even under SCR condition in the presence of NH3, which is well known to significantly inhibit the oxidation activity of elemental mercury by HCl. Moreover, it was confirmed that, when SO2 was present in the reaction gas together with HCl, excellent elemental mercury oxidation activity was maintained even though CuCl2 supported on the catalyst surface was converted to CuSO4. This is thought to be because not only HCl but also the SO4 component generated on the catalyst surface promotes the oxidation of elemental mercury. However, in the presence of SO2, the total mercury balance before and after the catalytic reaction was not matched, especially as the concentration of SO2 increased. In order to understand the cause of this, further studies are needed to investigate the effect of SO2 in the SnCl2 aqueous solution employed for mercury species analysis and the effect of sulfate ions generated on elemental mercury oxidation. It was confirmed that SO2 also promotes NOx removal activity, which is thought to be because the increase in acid sites by SO4 generated on the catalyst surface by SO2 facilitates NH3 adsorption. The composition change and structure of the components present on the catalyst surface under various reaction conditions were measured by XRD and XRF. These measurement results were presented as a rational explanation for the results that SO2 enhances the oxidation activity of elemental mercury and the NOx removal activity in this catalyst system.

A study on the in situ regeneration effect of commercial deactivated SCR catalyst which had been exposed to the off gas from the heavy oil fired power plant for a long time was carried out in a simulated in situ conditions by washing with distilled water and various acid solutions in a short time. The catalytic performance test of the regenerated SCR catalysts was carried out in the micro reactor with simulated off gas of the heavy oil fired power plant and all prepared catalysts were characterized by BET, Porosimeter, EDX (Energy Dispersive X-ray spectrometer) and ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) to investigate correlations between catalytic activity and surface characteristics of them. The characterization results of the regenerated catalysts showed that the specific surface area was restored 95% more than that of fresh catalyst. Under this study, the activity of the regenerated catalysts with acid solution (3~6 M) without using ultrasonic wave in a simulated in situ conditions was restored 90% more than that of the fresh catalyst. It was found that improved activity of regenerated catalyst was caused by removing the deactivating materials from the surface of the deactivated SCR catalyst through acid washing.

Performance of catalyst was studied with various operating conditions for selective catalytic reduction of $NO_x$ with $NH_3$. It is confirmed that catalysts containing Mn and Cu have a good efficiency in the usage of oxygen by the $H_2$-TPR analysis. In the case of catalyst #1, $NO_x$ conversion was decrease with the increase of reaction temperature. But in the case of catalyst #2, $NO_x$ conversion was increased and then remained constant with the increase of reaction temperature. This phenomenon is due to the difference of the $NH_3$ oxidation of both catalysts.
Activated carbon SCR(CSCR) catalyst that is used to remove $NO_x$ in exhaust gas including boron discharged from the production process of liquid crystal display(LCD) shows deactivation when boron is deposited to block the pores within the catalyst or to cover its active sites. The spent carbon catalyst is regenerated by washing with various surfactants, drying and calcination. For comparison of the physical and chemical properties before and after the regeneration with the variables, type of surfactants and calcination condition, element analysis by ICP, $N_{2}$ adsorption were conducted. $DeNO_{x}$ in SCR with $NH_3$ was carried out in a fixed bed reactor at $120^{\circ}C$. The activated carbon catalyst regenerated through washing with a non-ionic surfactant in $H_{2}O$ at $90^{\circ}C$ and calcination under $N_{2}$ gas at $550^{\circ}C$ shows similar level of surface area and $NO_x$ removal efficiency with those of fresh catalyst.
The effect of the addition of Cu on the catalytic activity of the $Mn/CeO_2-ZrO_2$ catalyst for the low-temperature SCR reaction of NO was investigated. Three different amounts of Cu, 5, 10, and 15 wt%, were impregnated on the $Mn/CeO_2-ZrO_2$ catalyst. The characteristics of the synthesized catalysts were examined by BET, XRD, XPS, and $H_2-TPR$ analyses. The de-NOx efficiency of the Cu-added catalysts increased with the amount of Cu. When 15 wt% Cu was impregnated, the deNOx efficiency was the highest, reaching as high as 99%. The increased deNOx efficiency is attributed to the enhanced reducing power stemming from the interaction between Mn and Cu on the catalyst surface.
NO removal activity (per unit of mass) of the used catalyst was seriously decreased as low as 27% of the new catalyst. Since the surface area of the used catalyst was 63% of that of the new one, the mojor reason for the lessened activity of the used catalyst compared to the new one may be due to the decreased surface area by sintering and surface concentration of active materials. Poison may be regarded as another important factor, since it affect the active site of catalyst by heavy metals. To recycle the used catalyst, we focused on the removal of poisoning agents from the catalyst. By using $80^{\circ}C$ water for 30 min upto 2 h, the recycled catalyst demonstrated the best activity and efficiency, which may be due to the removal of both K and Na. Although the recovered activity (per unit of surface area) of the catalyst was 79% compared to the new one, the activity (per unit of mass) of the recovered catalyst was only 49% compared of the activity of fresh catalyst.
