  • Receiving 100 citations from indexed journals is not a common occurrence, although it does happen very rarely, and it is even more uncommon for a non-indexed article. Given this, the purpose of this present study is to perform a bibliometric analysis of 100 cited Scopus articles to a non-Scopus indexed article, using a case study of the article titled "Authorship trends and collaboration pattern in the marine sciences literature: A scientometric study" which was published by Elango and Rajendran in the International Journal of Information Dissemination and Technology in 2012. On October 15, 2022, the Scopus database was searched with the article title in the references field, and the resulting bibliographic data was exported as a comma-separated values file. The tools utilized for this analysis were ScientoPy, the Bibliometrix R Package, and VOSviewer. Based on the findings, most of the cited articles were published within the last three years, and international researchers have given more recognition compared to Indian researchers. The most popular topics were found to be bibliometrics, bibliometric analysis, and bibliometrix. The fact that all 100 cited articles were published across various subject disciplines used by Scopus to categorise sources demonstrates how well-established the citing article is within the scientific community.

  • This study assesses the growth and distribution of research journals indexed in Scopus from 2000 through 2019, using SCImago data for journal and country ranking. A total of 15,484 journals were indexed in Scopus up till 1999, and from 2000 to 2019, 11,037 journals were indexed in Scopus at an average of 581.85 journals per year at an average annual corresponding growth of 2.74%. Of the total journals indexed in Scopus, 41.61% were indexed during the last two decades. Europe is the leading continent publishing nearly 60% of the total world journals, while Africa publishes around 1% of journals, the lowest among all the continents. The United Kingdom, United States (US), China, Brazil, Australia, and Egypt are the leading countries publishing the maximum number of journals from their respective continents. Of the total journals indexed across the world, nearly one-fourth (6,425, 24.23%) are published in the US. Still more, of the 109 journal publishing countries across the world, nearly 90% of journals are published in twenty leading journal publishing countries. Among the 27 major Scopus recognized subject disciplines, the majority (1,606, 6.06%) of journals are published in the field of medicine. The growth of research journals and the growth of research results has moved at a uniform pace, and any asymmetry between the two is bound to result either in the introduction of predatory and dubious journals or in the production of sub-standard research results.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the journal category "oral surgery" in Scopus and in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE). Materials and Methods: The Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (JOMS), The Journal of the Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (JKAOMS), and The Journal of Prosthodontic Research (JPR) were selected from the Scopus list of journals as oral surgery journals. Maxillofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (MPRS) was selected from PubMed as a Scopus oral surgery title. From these titles, 10 recently published articles were collected and used for reference analysis. Results: The percentage of citations from oral surgery journals was 26.7%, 24.5%, and 40.1% for JKAOMS, MPRS, and JOMS, respectively. In total, 1.1% of JPR's citations were from oral surgery journals and significantly fewer from other journals (P<0.001). The percentage of citations from dentistry journals excluding oral surgery journals was 11.9%, 34.4%, and 15.8% for JKAOMS, MPRS, and JOMS, respectively. For JPR, 80.6% of citations were from dentistry journals and significantly more were from other journals (P<0.001). Conclusion: Selected samples revealed that JPR is incorrectly classified as an oral surgery journal in Scopus. In addition, the scientific interaction among JKAOMS, MPRS, and JOMS was different to JPR in the reference analysis.

  • In this study, journal selection processes of the Science Citation Index (SCI) and the SCOPUS are investigated aiming at making the Journal of the Korean Meteorological Society (JKMS) an SCI journal. In addition, some characteristic features of the SCI journals in the field of atmospheric sciences published in Asian countries are examined. Some domestic journals in the related disciplines that are recently listed in the SCI and SCOPUS are also analyzed in terms of strategic approaches. Results of this study may provide fundamental strategic information in pursuing the JKMS to be listed in the SCI in the near future.

  • Text data mining ('big data methods') is one of the most widely used approaches during the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, text data mining on Scopus databases or Web of Science (WoS). Text data mining is widely used to collect literature for later bibliometric analysis, and in the end, it becomes a literature review article. Therefore, in this article, we reveal the trend of publication of literature reviews in Scopus journals from Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, and Malaysia. This article describes two essential parts, namely 1) a comparison of international publication trends and subject area of literature review publications, and 2) a comparison of Top 5 for Authors, Affiliation, Source Title, and Collaboration Country.

  • Objectives: The systematic review (SR) is a research methodology that aims to synthesize related evidence. Updating previously conducted SRs is necessary when new evidence has been produced, but no consensus has yet emerged on the appropriate update methodology. The authors have developed a new SR update method called 'adaptive meta-analysis' (AMA) using the 'cited by', 'similar articles', and 'related articles' citation discovery tools in the PubMed and Scopus databases. This study evaluates the usefulness of these citation discovery tools for updating SRs. Methods: Lists were constructed by applying the citation discovery tools in the two databases to the articles analyzed by a published SR. The degree of overlap between the lists and distribution of excluded results were evaluated. Results: The articles ultimately selected for the SR update meta-analysis were found in the lists obtained from the 'cited by' and 'similar' tools in PubMed. Most of the selected articles appeared in both the 'cited by' lists in Scopus and PubMed. The Scopus 'related' tool did not identify the appropriate articles. Conclusions: The AMA, which involves using both citation discovery tools in PubMed, and optionally, the 'related' tool in Scopus, was found to be useful for updating an SR.

  • Purpose: The two (SCOPUS and SSCI) are the most reputed indexing databases in the world for social science area, and hence the most preferred by majority of researchers in filling the academia niche that may exist on any research topic This study aims to determine five key strategic tactics that the JIDB (Journal of Industrial Distribution & Business) can use to be indexed by SCOPUS and SSCI, following five main measures as discussed in main texts. Research design, data and methodology: The literature analysis which was selected by this study is appropriate to find out useful texts dataset and this analysis provides adequate evidence for previous literature collection. Results: From the current literature analysis, this study suggests five strategic tactics for JIDB to be a journal indexed in SCOPUS and SSCI. The five tactics are follows: (1) Understanding the Selection Process, (2) Content and Relevance, (3) Finding a Niche Technical Standards, (4) Clarity in Formatting and Structure, and (5) Citations and Publication Considerations. Conclusions: This study concludes that the five discussed tactics are all imperative in aiding the research and if JIDB follows all the select strategies, it will be bound to succeed for indexing in the two databases.
