In this paper a polarimetric airborne SAR measurement has been used to study the radar polarimetric characteristics in the intertidal area on the south coastof the Korea. The L-band NASA/JPL airborne SAR (AIRSAR) data, which were acquired on the intertidal zone during PACRIM-II Korea campaign on September 30, 2000, were used for this research. The most intertidal zones of Yeoja Bay are composed of muddy soils with high silt and clay percentage. Models of microwave scattering from rough surfaces, i.e., semi-empirical model, and Extended Bragg model, were applied to investigate the surface characteristics of intertidal zones.
Disasters, including earthquakes and landslides, have enormous economic and social losses besides their impact on environmental disruption. Iran, and particularly its Western part, is known as an earthquake susceptible area due to numerous strong ground motions. Studying ecological changes due to climate change can improve the public and expert sector's awareness and response to future disastrous events. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data and Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technologies are appropriate tools for modeling and surface deformation modeling. This paper proposes an efficient approach to detect ground deformation changes using Sentinel-1A. The focal point of this research is to map the ground surface deformation modeling is presented using InSAR technology over Sarpol-e Zahab on 25th November 2018 as a study case. For surface deformation modeling and detection of the ground movement due to earthquake SARPROZ in MATLAB programming language is used and discussed. Results show that there is a general ground movement due to the Sarpol-e Zahab earthquake between -7 millimeter to +18 millimeter in the study area. This research verified previous researches on the advanced image analysis techniques employed for mapping ground movement, where InSAR provides a reliable tool for assisting engineers and the decision-maker in choosing proper policies in a time of disasters. Based on the result, 574 out of 682 damaged buildings and infrastructures due to the 2017 Sarpol-e Zahab earthquake have moved from -2 to +17 mm due to the 2018 earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 Richter. Results show that mountainous areas have suffered land subsidence, where urban areas had land uplift.
The goal of this study was to estimate the possible scattering distance of deicer from the highway and the impact range of deicer on soil quality in terms of plant growth. Among the major elements (Ca2+, Cl- and Na+) of deicer, Ca2+and Cl- are usually applied as fertilizer to soil. Therefore both elements (Ca2+and Cl-) were not appropriate for a tracer of deicer at the agricultural area. In this study, SAR (sodium adsorption ratio) of soil was proposed as an alternative tracer to confirm the distribution of the deicer around the highway areas. Because deicer is the main anthropogenic source of Na+ around the highway areas and does harm to the physical properties of soil and plant growth through the destruction of soil aggregate, SAR would be an recommendable tracer to access the distribution of deicer as well as adverse effect on soil quality at highway areas. The influence range of deicer based on SAR of soil was estimated to be less than 20 m distance from the highway even though the possible flying distance of deicer was found to be more than 100 m from the highway. However the deicer seriously deposited within 10 m from the highway.

In this paper, a compensation method of the amplitude and phase errors from the T/R(Transmit/Receive) modules in an active SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) system is introduced. The errors are defined and classified, and characterized by analyzing the measurement data acquired from the pilot test. To compensate these errors, a control methodology of T/R modules output is proposed. Before the compensation is applied, 16 T/R modules integrated on the active SAR antenna show the amplitude in 28.2~29.0 dBm and the phase in $101.7^{\circ}{\sim}165.2^{\circ}$. After the compensation, the amplitude and phase are distributed in 27.4~28.0 dBm and $116.1^{\circ}{\sim}120.0^{\circ}$ respectively. The antenna beam patterns generated by the array theory with the distributions are compared, and the proposed method is verified as good to apply for the active SAR system.

The satellite image acquired by RADARSAT SAR on August 15, 1996 reveals internal waves in north coastal waters of Cheju Island. It is indicated from the image data, the tidal elevation data, and the bottom topography data, the internal waves seem to be generated by interaction between shallow bottom and tidal currents travelling in the stratified water in the summer time during the tidal changeovers from ebb to flood. The internal waves generated in such condition show patterns of trains of solitons. Probable amplitude of observed solitons is calculated using estimation of the soliton wave length from SAR image data and K-dV equation. Detection of the internal waves is very significant not only to military strategist for underwater maneuvers such as operation of submarines, but also to physical and biological oceanographers. Temporal and spatial variation of the internal waves are needed to be measured by simultaneous in-situ field study together with SAR to examine the nature of these internal waves.
Accurate classification of water area is an preliminary step to accurately analyze the flooded area and damages caused by flood. This step is especially useful for monitoring the region where annually repeating flood is a problem. The accurate estimation of flooded area can ultimately be utilized as a primary source of information for the policy decision. Although SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) imagery with its own energy source is sensitive to the water area, its shadow effect similar to the reflectance signature of the water area should be carefully checked before accurate classification. Especially when we want to identify small flood area with mountainous environment, the step for removing shadow effect turns out to be essential in order to accurately classify the water area from the SAR imagery. In this paper, the flood area was classified and monitored using multi-temporal RADARSAT SAR images of Ok-Chun and Bo-Eun located in Chung-Book Province taken in 12th (during the flood) and 19th (after the flood) of August, 1998. We applied several steps of geometric and radiometric calculations to the SAR imagery. First we reduced the speckle noise of two SAR images and then calculated the radar backscattering coefficient $(\sigma^0)$. After that we performed the ortho-rectification via satellite orbit modeling developed in this study using the ephemeris information of the satellite images and ground control points. We also corrected radiometric distortion caused by the terrain relief. Finally, the water area was identified from two images and the flood area is calculated accordingly. The identified flood area is analyzed by overlapping with the existing land use map.

It is very essential to estimate the water body area using remote exploration for water resource management, analysis and prediction of water disaster damage. Hydrophysical detection using satellites has been mainly performed on large satellites equipped with optical and SAR sensors. However, due to the long repeat cycle, there is a limitation that timely utilization is impossible in the event of a disaster/disaster. With the recent active development of Micro satellites, it has served as an opportunity to overcome the limitations of time resolution centered on existing large satellites. The Micro satellites currently in active operation are ICEYE in Finland and Capella satellites in the United States, and are operated in the form of clusters for earth observation purposes. Due to clustering operation, it has a short revisit cycle and high resolution and has the advantage of being able to observe regardless of weather or day and night with the SAR sensor mounted. In this study, the operation status and characteristics of micro satellites were described, and the water area estimation technology optimized for micro SAR satellite images was applied to the Daecheong Dam basin on the Korean Peninsula. In addition, accuracy verification was performed based on the reference value of the water generated from the optical satellite Sentinel-2 satellite as a reference. In the case of the Capella satellite, the smallest difference in area was shown, and it was confirmed that all three images showed high correlation. Through the results of this study, it was confirmed that despite the low NESZ of Micro satellites, it is possible to estimate the water area, and it is believed that the limitations of water resource/water disaster monitoring using existing large SAR satellites can be overcome.
SAR image is not dependent on the weather condition and Sun's electromagnetic energy. But geometric distortions exist in almost all radar image, it need to be correction. The Radarsat-1 SAR images are used to monitoring of moisture acquired in May 1/1998 and May 25/1998. Radarsat-1 C band data is sensitive on moisture condition. Study area is located in Non-san site. It is made up almost agricultural area and a little of forest area. In May, Rice-planting is started in the midland of Korea. So moisture condition is undergoing many changes. Forest area need to be terrain effect removal for accurately results because it is included in layover, shadow, and so on. Results of land-cover moisture condition map are useful tool for fields of agriculture, forestry industry, and disaster.
Korea Peninsula is exposed to landslide problems because large regions of Korea are composed of mountain. As a result, we have a great loss of life and property every year, such as road, bridge, and building. However, conventional survey has many restrictions of time and man power. In recent days, instead of field surveying, remote sensing has our attention for detecting damaged place. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) provides the all-weather capability and complements information available. And through the 2-pass DInSAR technique, we can measure even very small displacement effect. In this study, we generated six interferograms of Kangwondo between 1992 and 1998, and estimated the vulnerable place for landslide.
Solar cells have widely been utilized for a satellite to convert sunlight energy into electricity in space. Many different types of solar cells appropriate for each satellite program are available in current markets, which enables us to construct a solar array light and small often required from a low Earth orbit (LEO) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite. Thus, it is important to choose a proper solar cell satisfying the requirements of mass and size for the solar array. In this article, we have surveyed typical suppliers and have discussed some characteristics of solar cells. Conceptual design examples of the solar array for LEO SAR satellites using several types of solar cells have been performed to show the pros and cons of solar cells by comparison of the total mass and size necessary for the solar array.
