  • In this paper, static and dynamic shift control stategies of CVT speed ratio are suggested. For the static shift control, in order to operate engine on the optimal operating region, a fuzzy control logic is used. In the fuzzy logic, S- factor that is defined as a degree of sportiness is introduced. Simulation results show that the static shift control strategy based on the fuzzy logic selects the optimal operating point automatically between the economy and the sporty mode corresponding to the driver's desire and the driving condition. For the dynamic shift control strategy, a shift speed map is suggested which determines the shift sped as fast or slow based on Δi, the difference between the desired speed ratio id and the actual speed ratio i, and throttle opening. It is seen from the simulation results that the CVT shift speed is determined by the dynamic shift control strategy to provide appropriate performance and comfort for the driver's demand and driving condition. Additionally, experiments are performed to investigate the dynamic performance of the shift speed for the lift foot up. From the experimental results, it is found that improved shift feeling can be obtained by the dynamic shift control strategy when lift foot up occurs.

  • Internet communities are a typical space for knowledge creation and use on the Internet as people discuss their common interests within the internet communities. When we define 'Knowledge Communities' as internet communities that are related to knowledge creation and use, they are categorized into 4 different types such as 'Search Engine,' 'Open Communities,' 'Specialty Communities,' and 'Activity Communities.' Each type of knowledge community does not remain the same, for example. Rather, it changes with time and is also affected by the external business environment. Therefore, it is critical to develop processes for practical use of such changeable knowledge communities. Yet there is little research regarding a strategic framework for knowledge communities as a source of knowledge creation and use. The purposes of this study are (1) to find factors that can affect knowledge creation and use for each type of knowledge community and (2) to develop a strategic framework for practical use of the knowledge communities. Based on previous research, we found 7 factors that have considerable impacts on knowledge creation and use. They were 'Fitness,' 'Reliability,' 'Systemicity,' 'Richness,' 'Similarity,' 'Feedback,' and 'Understanding.' We created 30 different questions from each type of knowledge community. The questions included common sense, IT, business and hobbies, and were uniformly selected from various knowledge communities. Instead of using survey, we used these questions to ask users of the 4 representative web sites such as Google from Search Engine, NAVER Knowledge iN from Open Communities, SLRClub from Specialty Communities, and Wikipedia from Activity Communities. These 4 representative web sites were selected based on popularity (i.e., the 4 most popular sites in Korea). They were also among the 4 most frequently mentioned sitesin previous research. The answers of the 30 knowledge questions were collected and evaluated by the 11 IT experts who have been working for IT companies more than 3 years. When evaluating, the 11 experts used the above 7 knowledge factors as criteria. Using a stepwise linear regression for the evaluation of the 7 knowledge factors, we found that each factors affects differently knowledge creation and use for each type of knowledge community. The results of the stepwise linear regression analysis showed the relationship between 'Understanding' and other knowledge factors. The relationship was different regarding the type of knowledge community. The results indicated that 'Understanding' was significantly related to 'Reliability' at 'Search Engine type', to 'Fitness' at 'Open Community type', to 'Reliability' and 'Similarity' at 'Specialty Community type', and to 'Richness' and 'Similarity' at 'Activity Community type'. A strategic framework was created from the results of this study and such framework can be useful for knowledge communities that are not stable with time. For the success of knowledge community, the results of this study suggest that it is essential to ensure there are factors that can influence knowledge communities. It is also vital to reinforce each factor has its unique influence on related knowledge community. Thus, these changeable knowledge communities should be transformed into an adequate type with proper business strategies and objectives. They also should be progressed into a type that covers varioustypes of knowledge communities. For example, DCInside started from a small specialty community focusing on digital camera hardware and camerawork and then was transformed to an open community focusing on social issues through well-known photo galleries. NAVER started from a typical search engine and now covers an open community and a special community through additional web services such as NAVER knowledge iN, NAVER Cafe, and NAVER Blog. NAVER is currently competing withan activity community such as Wikipedia through the NAVER encyclopedia that provides similar services with NAVER encyclopedia's users as Wikipedia does. Finally, the results of this study provide meaningfully practical guidance for practitioners in that which type of knowledge community is most appropriate to the fluctuated business environment as knowledge community itself evolves with time.

  • To analyze the transfer characteristics of $CO_2$ extinguishant when extinguishant is injected into a closed space similar to a marine engine room, a numerical simulation was performed. Flow and Concentration fields are calculated according with the variation of the fire plume,s location. The results show that tile variation of fire plumes, location greatly effected on the flow patterns and the characteristics of $CO_2$ extinguishant transfer. In case of the fire plume located at left region of the 2nd floor center in the engine room consisted of first and second floor, The effects similar to the air curtain is found and cut off the mass transfer. In the characteristics with hight, the iso-concentration line below the extinguishable limit is formed in the left region of the 1st and 2nd floor center after the $CO_2$ extinguishant is completely injected. therefore I think that the results of this study are considered to arrange the $CO_2$ injection nozzles for the $CO_2$ fire fighting equipments.

  • In this paper, we propose the new method of creating 3D virtual-human reflecting the pattern of clothes worn by the person in the high-resolution whole body front image and the body shape data about the person. To get the pattern of clothes, we proceed Instance Segmentation and clothes parsing using Cascade Mask R-CNN. After, we use Pix2Pix to blur the boundaries and estimate the background color and can get UV-Map of 3D clothes mesh proceeding UV-Map base warping. Also, we get the body shape data using SMPL-X and deform the original clothes and body mesh. With UV-Map of clothes and deformed clothes and body mesh, user finally can see the animation of 3D virtual-human reflecting user's appearance by rendering with the state-of-the game engine, i.e. Unreal Engine.

  • The modern manufacturing systems and technologies produce products that are more accurate day by day. This can be reached mainly by improvement the manufacturing process with at the same time restricting more and more the quality specifications and reducing the uncertainty in part. The main objective an industry becomes to lower the part's variability, since the less variability - the better is product. One of the part of this task is measuring the object's uncertainty. The main purpose of this study is to understand the application of bootstrap method for uncertainty evaluation. Bootstrap method is a collection of sample re-use techniques designed to estimate standard errors and confidence intervals. In the case study a surface of an automobile engine block - (Top view side) is measured by Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and analyzed for uncertainty using Geometric Least Squares in complex with bootstrap method. The designed experiment is composed by three similar measurements (the same features in unique reference system), but with different points (5, 10, 20) concentration at each level. Then each cloud of points was independently analyzed by means of non-linear Least Squares, after estimated results have been reported. A MatLAB software tool used to generate new samples using bootstrap function. The results of the designed experiment are summarized and show that the bootstrap method provides the possibility to evaluate the uncertainty without repeating the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) measurements many times, i.e. potentially can reduce the measuring time.

  • Configuring excavator attachments and engine sizes is the prerequisite for appropriate excavator assignment. Existing experience based configuration practice is lack of scientific rational because many variables (e.g., equipment motion data, soil and rock type and condition, equipment's engineering dimension along with bucket properties, job and management conditions etc.) should be considered simultaneously and timely fashion. This paper presents a new excavator configuration searching method that identifies the most favorable excavator configuration (i.e., the optimal set of excavator's maximum digging height and bucket size) to complement these existing practices. The method coded by using MATLAB identifies an optimal excavator configuration by considering those variables causing the variability of productivity. A case study is presented to demonstrate and to verify the system.

  • The engine behavior in a transient condition is important to not only emission regulations but also fuel economy. A fast response gas analyzer can be a useful tool to investigate exhaust gas in a transient operation. It should be designed to analyze gas concentration with a short time constant by a fast sampling module and an appropriate measuring method for each emission element. In this study, a new fast sampling module is introduced and flow analysis is performed by numerical simulation. The analysis has shown the proper operating condition and the sensitivity of the module for practical application. Calculated flow to the sampling module has $0.5{\sim}4%$ error, while backflow toward the expansion tube is expected when pressure in CP (Constant Pressure) chamber is over 0.6 bar. For a stable supply of flow to the optical cell, sample gas pressure should be in the range, $0.35{\sim}1.90$ bar, when the pressure in the CP camber and the optical cell are 0.2 bar and 0.158 bar, respectively.

  • Security has become one of the major concerns in mobile adhoc networks (MANETs). Data and voice communication amongst roaming battlefield entities (such as platoon of soldiers, inter-battlefield tanks and military aircrafts) served by MANETs throw several challenges. It requires complex securing strategy to address threats such as unauthorized network access, man in the middle attacks, denial of service etc., to provide highly reliable communication amongst the nodes. Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDPS) undoubtedly is a crucial ingredient to address these threats. IDPS in MANET is managed by Command Control Communication and Intelligence (C3I) system. It consists of networked computers in the tactical battle area that facilitates comprehensive situation awareness by the commanders for timely and optimum decision-making. Key issue in such IDPS mechanism is lack of Smart Learning Engine. We propose a novel behavioral based "Smart Multi-Instance Multi-Label Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (MIML-IDPS)" that follows a distributed and centralized architecture to support a Robust C3I System. This protocol is deployed in a virtually clustered non-uniform network topology with dynamic election of several virtual head nodes acting as a client Intrusion Detection agent connected to a centralized server IDPS located at Command and Control Center. Distributed virtual client nodes serve as the intelligent decision processing unit and centralized IDPS server act as a Smart MIML decision making unit. Simulation and experimental analysis shows the proposed protocol exhibits computational intelligence with counter attacks, efficient memory utilization, classification accuracy and decision convergence in securing C3I System in a Tactical Battlefield environment.

  • A quasi one-dimensional multi-phase reaction flow analysis code is developed for the performance analysis of liquid pintle thrusters. Unsteady flow field, droplet evaporation, finite reaction and film cooling models are composed as the major models of the performance analysis. The droplet vaporization takes account of Abramzon's vaporization model, and the combustion employs a flamelet model based on detail chemical reactions. Shine's model is applied for the film cooling calculation. To verify each model, the Sod shock tube, single droplet vaporization, kerosene droplets combustion, and film length are evaluated.
