The hydrogen storage performance and electrochemical properties of $Zr_{1-X}Ti_X(Mn_{0.2}V_{0.2}Ni_{0.6})_{1.8}$(X=0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6) alloys are investigated. The relationship between discharge performance and alloy characteristics such as P-C-T characteristics and crystallographic parameters is also discussed. All of these alloys are found to have mainly a C14-type Laves phase structure by X-ray diffraction analysis. As the mole fraction of Ti in the alloy increases, the reversible hydrogen storage capacity decreases while the equilibrium hydrogen pressure of alloy increases. Furthermore, the discharge capacity shows a maxima behavior and the rate-capability is increased, but the cycling durability is rapidly degraded with increasing Ti content in the alloy. In order to analyze the above phenomena, the phase distribution, surface composition, and dissolution amount of alloy constituting elements are examined by S.E.M., A.E.S. and I.C.P. respectively. The decrease of secondary phase amount with increasing Ti content in the alloy explains that the micro-galvanic corrosion by multiphase formation is little related with the degradation of the alloys. The analysis of surface composition shows that the rapid degradation of Ti-substituted Zr base alloy electrode is due to the growth of oxygen penetration layer. After comparing the radii of atoms and ions in the electrolyte, it is clear that the electrode surface becomes more porous, and that is the source of growth of oxygen penetration layer while accelerating the dissolution of alloy constituting elements with increasing Ti content. Consequently, the rapid degradation (fast growth of the oxygen-penetrated layer) with increasing Ti substitution in Zr-based alloy is ascribed to the formation of porous surface oxide through which the oxygen atom and hydroxyl ion with relatively large radius can easily transport into the electrode surface.
The effect of substitution of Gd ions for Ca ions in the B $i_{1.84}$P $b_{0.34}$S $r_{1.91}$(C $a_{1-x}$ G $d_{x}$)$_{2.03}$ C $u_{3.06}$$O_{ 10+{\delta}}$/ (x=0.0~0.06) was investigated by measuring x-ray diffraction patterns, lattice constants, do resistivity and Hall effect. We found the solubility limit of Gd in the 110 K phase to be x < 0.015. Within the solubility limit, the c-axis seemed to decrease with increasing x. In the region of the 110 K single phase, the critical temperature $T_{c}$ gradually decreased with an increasing the Gd concentration x, corresponding to a small change of the carrier concentration.
The 7175Al alloy is particularly interesting for its high strength and sufficient ductility, fracture toughness and corrosion resistance. Currently vigorous efforts have been made to develop large rockets usable for various purposes in the space. This has created the demand of big size of 7175Al billet which would be applied to heavy forgings. The aim of this study is to investigate the quality level of big billet and the effect of billet size on the mechanical properties of large 7175Al ring roll forgings. The billets range from 370 mm to 720 mm in diameter were homogenized and forged after direct chill casting. The size and volume fraction of second phase particles In ${\Phi}720$ mm billet are larger than those of ${\Phi}370$ mm billet, and its ductility is lower for the condition of homogenization and T6 treatment. The Cu-rich phases formed in interdendritic sites are considered to provide the preferential crack path during cold upsetting. The fracture toughness of ring roll forgings which are made by ${\Phi}370$ mm billet is higher than those of ${\Phi}720$ mm billet.
As one of the advanced design features of the APR1400, direct vessel injection (DVI) system is being considered instead of conventional cold leg injection (CLI) system. It is known that the DVI system greatly enhances the reliability of the emergency core cooling (ECC) system. However, there is still a dispute on its performance in terms of water delivery to the reactor core during the reflood phase of a large-break loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA). Thus, experimental validation is under progress. In this paper, test results of direct ECC bypass performed in the steam-water test facility tailed MIDAS (Multi-dimensional Investigation in Downcomer Annulus Simulation) are presented. The test condition is determined, based on the preliminary analysis of TRAC code, by applying the ‘modified linear scaling method’with the l/4.93 length scale . From the tests, ECC direct bypass fraction, steam condensation rate and information on the flow distribution in the upper annulus downcomer region are obtained.
A multi-dimensional component for the thermal-hydraulic system analysis code, MARS, was developed for a more realistic three-dimensional analysis of nuclear systems. A three-dimensional and two-fluid model for a two-phase flow in Cartesian and cylindrical coordinates was employed. The governing equations and physical constitutive relationships were extended from those of a one-dimensional version. The numerical solution method adopted a semi-implicit and finite-difference method based on a staggered-grid mesh and a donor-cell scheme. The relevant length scale was very coarse compared to commercial computational fluid dynamics tools. Thus a simple Prandtl's mixing length turbulence model was applied to interpret the turbulent induced momentum and energy diffusivity. Non drag interfacial forces were not considered as in the general nuclear system codes. Several conceptual cases with analytic solutions were chosen and analyzed to assess the fundamental terms. RPI air-water and UPTF 7 tests were simulated and compared to the experimental data. The simulation results for the RPI air-water two-phase flow experiment showed good agreement with the measured void fraction. The simulation results for the UPTF downcomer test 7 were compared to the experiment data and the results from other multi-dimensional system codes for the ECC delivery flow.

Heat treatment is a controlled heating and cooling process to improve the physical and/or mechanical properties of metal products without changing their shapes. Today finite element method is widely used to simulate lots of manufacturing processes including heat treatment and surface hardening processes, which aims to reduce the number of time- and cost-consuming experimental tryouts. In this study we tried, using this method, to simulate the full carburizing process that consists of carburizing, diffusing and quenching, and to predict the distribution of carbon contents, phase fraction and hardness, thermal deformation and other mechanical characteristics as the results. In the finite element analysis deformation, heat transfer, phase transformation and diffusion effects are taken into consideration. The carburizing process of a lock gear, a part of the car seat recliner, that is manufactured by the fine blanking process is adopted as the analysis model. The numerical results are discussed and partly compared with experimental data. And a combination of process parameters that is expected to give the highest surface hardness is proposed on the basis of this discussion.
The thermoelectric and transport properties of Ti-doped FeVSb half-Heusler alloys were studied in this study. $FeV_{1-x}Ti_xSb$ (0.1 < x < 0.5) half-Heusler alloys were synthesized by mechanical alloying process and subsequent vacuum hot pressing. After vacuum hot pressing, a near singe phase with a small fraction of second phase was obtained in this experiment. Investigation of microstructure revealed that both grain and particle sizes were decreased on doping which would influence on thermal conductivity. No foreign elements pick up from the vial was seen during milling process. Thermoelectric properties were investigated as a function of temperature and doping level. The absolute value of Seebeck coefficient showed transition from negative to positive with increasing doping concentrations ($x{\geq}0.3$). Electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and power factor increased with the increasing amount of Ti contents. The lattice thermal conductivity decreased considerably, possibly due to the mass disorder and grain boundary scattering. All of these turned out to increase in power factor significantly. As a result, the thermoelectric figure of merit increased comprehensively with Ti doping for this experiment, resulting in maximum thermoelectric figure of merit for $FeV_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}Sb$ at 658 K.
At present, the research on wave propagation in graphene platelet reinforced composite plates focuses on the propagation behavior of bulk waves, in which the effect of boundary condition is ignored, there is no literature report on propagation behaviors of guided waves in graphene platelet reinforced metal foams (GPLRMF) plates. In fact, wave propagation is affected by boundary conditions, so it is necessary to study the propagation characteristics of guided waves. The aim of this paper is to solve this problem. The effective performance of the material was calculated using the mixing law. Equations of motion of GPLRMF plate is derived by using Hamilton's principle. Then, the eigenvalue method is used to obtain the expressions of bending wave, shear wave and longitudinal wave, and the degradation verification is carried out. Finally, the effects of graphene platelets (GPLs) volume fraction, elastic foundation, porosity coefficient, GPLs distribution types and porosity distribution types on the dispersion relations are studied. We find that these factors play an important role in the propagation characteristics and phase velocity of guided waves.

The effects of processing parameters on the flow behavior and microstructures were investigated in hot compression of powder metallurgy (P/M) Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The alloy was fabricated by a blended elemental (B/E) approach and it exhibited lamellar ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ microstructure. The hot compression tests were performed in the range of temperature $800-1000^{\circ}C$ with $50^{\circ}C$ intervals, strain rate $10^{-4}-10s^{-1}$, and strain up to 0.5. At $800-950^{\circ}C$, continuous flow softening after a peak stress was observed with strain rates lower than $0.1s^{-1}$. At strain rates higher than $1s^{-1}$, rapid drop in flow stress with strain hardening or broad oscillations was recorded. The processing map of P/M Ti-6Al-4V was designed based on the compression test and revealed the peak efficiency at $850^{\circ}C$ and $0.001s^{-1}$. As the processing temperature increased, the volume fraction of ${\beta}$ phase was increased. In addition, below $950^{\circ}C$, the globularization of phase at the slower strain rate and kinking microstructures were found. Based on these data, the preferred working condition of the alloy may be in the range of $850-950^{\circ}C$ and strain rate of $0.001-0.01s^{-1}$.

In this study, a shape-stabilized phase change material (SSPCM) was prepared by octadecane and exfoliated graphite nanoplate (xGnP) in a vacuum, to improve thermal storage performance. The octadecane as an organic phase change material (PCM) is very stable against phase separation of PCM, and has the proper temperature range for thermal comfort in the building; and the xGnP is a porous carbon nano-material. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transformation infrared spectrophotometer (FT-IR) were used to confirm the chemical and physical stability of the Ocatadecane/xGnP SSPCM. In addition, thermal properties were determined by Deferential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The specific heat of Octadecane/xGnP SSPCM was $14.1J/g{\cdot}K$ at $31.3^{\circ}C$. The melting temperature ranges of melting and freezing were found to be $26{\sim}35^{\circ}C$ and $26{\sim}19^{\circ}C$, respectively. At this time, the latent heats of melting and freezing were 110.9 J/g and 104.5 J/g, respectively. The Octadecane was impregnated into xGnP by as much as about 56.0% of the Octadecane/xGnP SSPCM's mass fraction.
