  • In the present study, Pisonia grandis leaves were extracted with chloroform and methanol. The extracts were vacuum dried to yield the respective chloroform (CE) and methanol extract (ME). CE and ME were evaluated for analgesic, anti-inflammatory (acute and chronic) and diuretic activity at 2 dose levels (250 and 500 mg/kg). Significant analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities were associated with CE and ME. CE at the dose level of 500 mg/kg was found to exhibit equivalent chronic anti-inflammatory activity as diclofenac at 50 mg/kg dose level. Significant diuretic activity was exhibited by ME. Graded dose response for all the activities were observed for the extracts.

  • To increase detection sensitivity for multi-DDT residues (o,p-/p,p-DDT, o,p-/p,p-DDE, o,o-/o,p-DDD) analysis, a highly selective sample clean-up method was introduced prior to GC/MS analysis using immunoaffinity column. The immunoaffinity matrix was prepared by coupling IgG fraction of DDT antiserum to cyanogens bromide activated Sepharose 4B. Three DDT antisera (DDA-1, DDHP-2, DDCP-3) were test for affinity column ligand that obtained by imunizing respective DDT immunogen to rabbits, and IgG was purified using protein A affinity purification. • The crude extract of the mycelium of Cladosporium was found to exhibit antimicrobial activity against the Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus, and multidrug-resistant S. aureus. Bioassayguided fractionation of an organic extract led to the isolation of an acetophenone derivative, clavatol (2',4'-dihydroxy-3',5'-dimethylacetophenone) (1), and a benzodiazepine alkaloid, circumdatin A (2). Compound 1 showed moderate antibacterial activity against S. aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus, and multidrug-resistant S. aureus with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 62.5, 62.5, 31.0 $\mu$g/mL, respectively, but compound 2 was inactive. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited UV-A protection activity with ED$_{50}$ values of 227.0 and 82.0 $\mu$M, respectively, indicating that they were more potent than the positive control, oxybenzone (ED$_{50}$ 350 $\mu$M), a common sunscreen agent.

  • A new liquid chromatographic chiral stationary phase based on (2S,3S)-O,O'-bis-(10-undecenoyl)-N,N'-bis-(3,5-dinitrobenzoyl)-2,3-diamino-1,4-butandiol was prepared starting from (2R,3R)-1,4-bis(benzyloxy)-2,3-butanediol. The new chiral stationary phase was applied to the resolution of racemic anilide derivatives of N-acetyl-a-amino acids, 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol and 3,3'-diaryl-1,1'-bi-2-naphthols. The CSP was also applied to the resolution of some chiral drugs including a diuretic, bendroflumethiazide, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents such naproxen and alminoprofen. In every case, the chiral recognition efficiency of the new CSP was quite excellent.

  • $Y_2O_2S$:Eu phosphors were synthesized via solid-state reactions. $Y_2O_2S$:Eu phosphor particles of various sizes were obtained by varying the firing temperature and firing time. The photoluminescence properties of these $Y_2O_2S$:Eu phosphors were examined. In addition, the cathodoluminescence properties of the $Y_2O_2S$:Eu phosphors were examined for applied voltages of 3-8 kV. The relationship between the luminescence intensity and particle size of the$Y_2O_2S$:Eu phosphors was investigated. The photoluminescence and cathodoluminescence of the $Y_2O_2S$:Eu phosphors are affected differently by variations in particle size.

  • SnS thin films were deposited on glasses through metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) method at relatively mild conditions, using bis(3-mercapto-1-propanethiolato) tin(II) precursor without toxic $H_2S$ gas. The MOCVD process was carried out in the temperature range of $300-400^{\circ}C$ and the average grain size in fabricated SnS films was about 500 nm. The optical band gap of the SnS film was about 1.3 eV which is in optimal range for harvesting solar radiation energy. The precursor and SnS films were characterized through infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, DIP-EI mass spectroscopy, elemental analyses, thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, and field emission scanning electron microscopic analyses.

  • This paper describes a two-step approach for the electrochemical deposition of CdZnS thin films on the polycrystalline Au electrode. Initially, an Au substrate is electrochemically modified with a sulfur layer. In the second step, the layer is electroreduced to $S^{2-}$ in the electrolyte dosed with the requisite amount of $Cd^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ ions to generate CdZnS films in situ. This approach was validated using a combination of linear sweep voltammetry and electrochemical quartz crystal microgravimetry. Thus synthesized CdZnS thin films have different composition depending on the composition of electrolytes. CdZnS thin films are characterized by energy-dispersive X-ray analysis and Raman spectroscopy.
