Overexpression of P-glycoprotein (Pgp) is associated with multidrug resistance (MDR) of tumor cells to a number of chemotherapeutic drugs. Pgp inhibitors have been shown to effectively reverse Pgp-mediated MDR. We prepared a series of phenoxy-N-phenylacetamide derivatives and tested for their ability to inhibit Pgp as potential MDR reversing agents, using a Pgp over-expressing MCF-7/ADR cell line. Some of the synthesized compounds exhibited moderate to potent reversal activity. Of note, compound 4o showed a 3.0-fold increased inhibition compared with verapamil, a well-known Pgp inhibitor. In addition, co-treatment of the representative compound 4o and a substrate anticancer agent doxorubicin resulted in a remarkable increase in doxorubicin's antitumor effect and inhibition of DNA synthesis in the MCF-7/ADR cell line. Taken together, these findings suggest that compound 4o could be a useful lead for development of a novel Pgp inhibitor for treatment of MDR.

We present smoothed particle hydrodynamic models of the interactions in the compact galaxy group, Stephan's Quintet. Adding thermohydrodynamic effects to the earlier collisionless N-body simulations of Renaud et al. (2010), we further investigate the dynamical interaction history and evolution of the intergalactic gas of Stephan's Quintet. Specifically, we model the formation of the hot X-ray gas, the group-wide shock, and emission line gas as the result of NGC 7318b colliding with the group as well as reproduce the tidal structures in the group. We compare our model results to multi-wavelength observations.

The Ilkwang Fault is NNE-striking, elongated 40 Km between Ulsan and Haendae-ku, Busan in southeastem part of the Korean Peninsula(Kim, D.H. et al., 1989; Kim, J.S. et al., 2003). This paper is mainly concemed about the ages of the fault activities especially in the Quatemary, infered from classification of geomorphic surface and trench excavation for the construction of Singori nuclear power plant. The geomorphi surfaces are classified into the Beach and the Alluvial plain, the 10 m a.s.l. Marine terrace, the 20 m a.s.l. Marine terrace, the Reworked surface of 45 m a.s.l. Marine terrace and the Low relief erosional surface, from lower to higher altitude. The Beach and the Alluvial plain are elongated to the Holocene terrace(ist terrace, choi, 2003). The 10 m a.s.l. Marine terrace is correlated to 2nd terrace (MIS 5em 125 Ka. y. B.P., Choi, 1998). The 45 m a.s.l. Marine terace is correlated to the Lower marine terrace (MIS 7,220 Ka. y. B.P., Choi, 2003 or MIS 9,320 y. B.P.) to the Gwanganri terrace(Penultimate interglacial age, 200-200 Ka. Y. B.P., Oh, 1981). The Low relief erosional surface is distributed coastal side, the Reworked surface of 45 m a.s.l. Marine terrace inland side by the Ilkwang Fault Line as the boundary line. But the former is above 10 m higher in relative height than the latter. The 20 m a.s.l. Marine terrace on the elongation line of the Ilkwang Fault reveals no dislocation. A site was trenched on the straight contract line with $N30^{\circ}$ E-striking between the 10 m a.s.l. Marine terrace and the 20 m a.s.l. Marine terrace. Fault line or dislocation was not observable in the trench excavation. Accordingly, the straight contact line is inferred as the ancient shoreline of the 10 m a.s.l. Marine terrace. The Ages of the Fault activities are inferred after the formation of the Ichonri Formation - before the formation of the 45 m a.s.l. Marine terrace (220 Ka. y. B.P. or 320 Ka. y. B.P.). The Low relief erosional surface was an island above the sea-level during the formation of the 45 m a.s.l. Marine terrace in the paleogeography.

The functional characteristic of LISN circuit, which is used for measurements of conductive noise in mains power line, is basically related to frequency characteristics of passive elements like inductors used in the circuit as well as the frequency response of inductors is highly related to the resins used in the varnishing process. The significant problem in determination of an inductor's frequency characteristic is the intrinsic resistance, inductance and parasitic capacitance. In this triplet, the parasitic capacitance is the major limiting factor of inductor's frequency range. This capacitance depends on inductor design parameters and materials filling the spaces of coil like resin and its coherency after curing process. In this paper, two similar inductors were designed and built. The first inductor was not varnished while the second one was varnished with VPI technology. VPI, or Vacuum, Pressure, Impregnation technology is one of the most reliable methods performing good insulating conditions for electrical circuits and windings based on resins. The measured results show that implying varnishing technology does not significantly affect the frequency response. However, due to mechanical solidity aspects and improved environmental protection, it is better to varnish the inductors.

This thesis explores the relationship between self-construal and online communication pattern. The Internet has changed human-to human communication. This study was to analyze how the self-construal was appeared and what relationship self-construal had with several variables: the motivation of the on-line community member, the on-line community's character, the communication behavior, the level of relationship between on-line community members- in on-line communities. The data was collected through the on-line survey research(N=79) and off-line survey research(N=255). The results lead us to conclude that the self-construals in on-line communities reflect two factors, which is similar to the off-line community. Nevertheless, self-construals in on-line communities are more complicated. In addition, uniqueness of self-construals which is the tendency to express the self and think connection with others critical is the important factor in on-line communities' communication. It is also central that the impact of self-construals on communication behavior is significant. I think this study was a small touch to explore cyber communication applying to self-consturals. And I hope this small touch would spread out and help to understand human communication as well as cyber communication.

Two species of the heptageniid mayfly genus Thalerosphyrus Eaton, T. vietnamensis (Dang) and T. separatus n. sp., are described from Vietnam. Thalerosphyrus separatus can be distinguished by the basally detached posterolateral expansions of pronotum in larva and by the Y -shaped penes in male adult. Their larval and adult stages are described with line-drawings of diagnostic characters. Their diagnoses, distributions, habitat and ecological data, and taxonomic remarks are provided.

In this paper, we have evaluated BER performance of digital subscriber line(DSL) using the twisted-pair channel model by means of Semi-analytic simulation technique. As a result, it was known that the Semi-analytic simulation was proved to be a good technique because of the attenuation of 0.5dB. To keep the BER=10$\^$-7/, 4dB of E$\^$b//N$\^$0/ is needed more when the DSL length extends to 5000m, while 2dB increase of E$\^$b//N$\^$0/ is required when Nyquist frequency goes to 512kb/s with the keeping same distance. In addition, the effect by FEXT noise is serious, when the FEXT noise damping constant, k is over 10/sup-10/ in DSL length and 10$\^$-14/ in the aspect of Nyquist frequency. As the basic, results of this analysis can be used in setting in internal and external standardization of DSL system in the future.

In this letter, we report on the investigation of Ni/Si/Ni Ohmic contacts to n-type 4H-SiC. Ohmic contacts have been formed by a vacuum annealing and N$_2$ gas ambient annealing method at 950$^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. The specific contact resistivity($\rho$$\sub$c/), sheet resistance(R$\sub$S/), contact resistance(R$\sub$S/), transfer length(LT) were calculated from resistance(R$\sub$T/) versus contact spacing(d) measurements obtained from 10 TLM(transmission line method) structures. The resulting average values of vacuum annealing sample were $\rho$$\sub$c/=3.8x10$\^$-5/ Ω$\textrm{cm}^2$ , R$\sub$c/=4.9Ω, R$\sub$T/=9.8Ω and L$\sub$T/=15.5$\mu\textrm{m}$, resulting average values of another sample were $\rho$$\sub$c/=2.29x10$\^$-4/ Ω$\textrm{cm}^2$ , R$\sub$c/=12.9Ω, R$\sub$T/=25.8Ω. The Physical properties of contacts were examined using X-Ray Diffraction and Auger analysis, there was a uniform intermixing of the Si and Ni, migration of Ni into the SiC.
