  • A mutual-inductance bridge type ac magnetic susceptibility measurement system was built in our laboratory. With addition of a phase-sensitive prestage, it was simple to implement and provided a high signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio.

  • The copolymerization of ethylene (E) and norbornene (N) was examined by using various metallocene catalysts and modified-MAO(MMAO) cocatalyst. For $C_2$-symmetry catalysts such as rac-Et(Ind)$_2$ZrC $l_2$, M $e_2$Si(Ind)$_2$ZrC $l_2$, M $e_2$Si(Cp)$_2$ZrC $l_2$ and Cs-symmetrical iPr(FluCp)ZrC $l_2$ as well as CGC and di-bridged zirconocene, the effects of catalyst structure and [N]/[E] feed ratio on catalyst activity, thermal property and [N] content of copolymer (COC) was investigated. For rac-Et(Ind)$_2$ZrC $l_2$ catalyst of a constant [N]/[E] feed ratio, the appropriate conditions of [Al]/[Zr] mole ratio, polymerization temperature and cocatalyst structure were found to be 3000, 4$0^{\circ}C$, MMAO cocatalyst, respectively. As [N]/[E] feed ratio increased, the incorporation of norbornene to copolymer increased while, the activity of catalyst decreased except for iPr(FluCp)ZrC $l_2$ With consideration of catalyst activity as well as N content, it was found that rac-Et(Ind)$_2$ZrC $l_2$/MMAO system exhibited relatively high activity and controllable $T_{g}$. Monomer reactivity ratio was determined by Kelen-Tudos method..

  • Numerical simulations of supersonic impinging jet flows are carried out using the axisymmetric Navier-Stokes code. This paper focuses on the oscillatory flow features associated with the variation of the nozzle pressure ratio and nozzle-to-plate distance. Frequencies of the surface pressure oscillation from computational results are in accord with the measured impinging tones for various cases of nozzle-to-plate distance. The variation of this frequency with distance show a staging behavior. Computed results for the case of nozzle pressure ratio variation for a fixed nozzle-to-plate distance also demonstrate a staging behavior. These two seemingly different staging behaviors are found to obey the same frequency-distance characteristics when the frequency and the distance are normalized by using the length of the shock cell.

  • Li ion battery have many advantages such as high energy density, high voltage and low self discharge, so it will replace conventional Ni/Cd battery. But, charge-discharge characterization of Li battery is controlled by weight ratio of electrodes (Cathode/Anode).   • This paper focuses on the study of dynamic analysis of thick plates resting on Winkler foundation. The governing equation is derived from Mindlin's theory. This study is a parametric analysis of the reflections of the thickness / span ratio, the aspect ratio and the boundary conditions on the earthquake excitations are studied. In the analysis, finite element method is used for spatial integration and the Newmark-${\beta}$ method is used for the time integration. While using finite element method, a new element is used. This element is 17-noded and it's formulation is derived from using higher order displacement shape functions. C++ program is used for the analyses. Graphs are presented to help engineers in the design of thick plates subjected to earthquake excitations. It is concluded that the 17-noded finite element is used in the earthquake analysis of thick plates. It is shown that the changes in the aspect ratio are more effective than the changes in the aspect ratio. The center displacements of the reinforced concrete thick clamped plates for b/a=1, and t/a=0.2, and for b/a=2, and t/a=0.2, reached their absolute maximum values of 0.00244 mm at 3.48 s, and of 0.00444 mm at 3.48 s, respectively.

Effects of Sea Tangle (Laminaria japonica) and Fucoidan Beverages on Sociopsychological Stress (사회.심리적 스트레스에 미치는 다시마 (Laminaria japonica)와 후코이단 음료의 영향)

  • This study was designed to investigate the effects of sea tangle (Laminaria japonica) extract (Dasi-Ex group: dry base 4.0%) and fucoidan-added (Fuco-I, II, III group: fucoidan of 1.0%, 2.0%, 3.0% added to Dasi-Ex) beverages on the anti-stress action. ICR male mice (20$\pm$2g) were fed basic experimental diets and given free through water bottle filled with these beverages instead of water for 18 days including sociopsychological stress. Body weight gains were consistently lower in Dasi-Ex and Fuco-I,II,III groups compared with control group, expecting in a inhibitory effect of obesity. Dasi-Ex group resulted in a significant decrease of 25% in serum corticosterone (CS) secretion, while Fuco-I,IIand IIIgroups resulted in a marked decreases of 45~55% in serum CS secretion compared with control group. Noradrenaline (NA) secretions were significantly increased about 15% in Dasi-Ex group, and 20~22% in Fuco-I,II,III groups compared with control group. Significant differences in brain MHPG-SO4 levels of Dasi-Ex group could not be obtained, but Fuco-I,II,III groups resulted in a marked decreases of 20~25% in brain MHPG-SO4 ratio of brain, but Fuco-I,II and III groups resulted in a marked increases of 45~60% in NA/MHPG-SO4 ratio of brain compared with control group. These results suggest that fucoidan beverage may play a effective role in a ridding of the sociopsychological stress by pivotal anti-stress effect of fucoidan.

Effects of Combining Feed Grade Urea and a Slow-release Urea Product on Performance, Dietary Energetics and Carcass Characteristics of Feedlot Lambs Fed Finishing Diets with Different Starch to Acid Detergent Fiber Ratios

  • Recent findings have shown that microbial nitrogen flow and digestible energy of diets are increased when urea is combined with a slow-release urea (SRU) in diets with a starch to acid detergent fibre ratio (S:F) 4:1. This affect is attributable to enhanced synchrony between ruminal N availability for microbial growth and carbohydrate degradation. To verify the magnitude of this effects on lamb performance, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of combining urea and a SRU in diets containing S:F ratios of 3:1, 4:1, or 5:1 on performance, dietary energetics and carcass characteristics of finishing lambs. For that, 40 Pelibuey${\times}$Katahdin lambs ($36.65{\pm}3kg$) were assigned to one of five weight groupings in 20 pens (5 repetition/treatments). The S:F ratio in the diet was manipulated by partially replacing the corn grain and dried distiller's grain with solubles by forage (wheat straw) and soybean meal to reach S:F ratios of 3:1, 4:1 or 5:1. An additional treatment of 4:1 S:F ratio with 0.8% urea as the sole source of non-protein nitrogen was used as a reference for comparing the effect of urea combination vs. conventional urea at the same S:F ratio. There were no treatment effects on dry matter intake (DMI). Compared the urea combination vs urea at the same S:F ratio, urea combination increased (p<0.01) average daily gain (ADG, 18.3%), gain for feed (G:F, 9.5%), and apparent energy retention per unit DMI (8.2%). Irrespective of the S:F ratio, the urea combination improved the observed-to-expected dietary ratio and apparent retention per unit DMI was maximal (quadratic effect, $p{\leq}0.03$) at an S:F ratio of 4:1, while the conventional urea treatment did not modify the observed-to-expected net energy ratio nor the apparent retention per unit DMI at 4:1 S:F ratio. Urea combination group tended (3.8%, p = 0.08) to have heavier carcasses with no effects on the rest of carcass characteristics. As S:F ratio increased, ADG, G:F, dietary net energy, carcass weight, dressing percentage and longissimus thoracis (LM) area increased linearly ($p{\leq}0.02$). Combining urea and a slow-release urea product results in positive effects on growth performance and dietary energetics, but the best responses are apparently observed when there is a certain proportion (S:F ratio = 4:1) of starch to acid detergent fibre in the diet.

  • This study shows the variation of poisson's ratio according to stress for the Cretaceous sandstones and shale in the Euiseoung Subbasin. To make a mechanical experiment, samples prepared with 3.0 cm in diameter and 6.2 cm in length were used in testing stress and strain. Generally poisson's ratio has been considered as one of properties, but contrary to steel, the test result makes sure that poisson's ratio has functional relation to stress. I had used four methods to calculate poisson's ratio, Poisson's ratio shows considerable different results according to the calculating, method but it has similar tendency in an elastic limit. Poisson' s ratio increases rapidly and is distinguished clearly in internal fracture region according to the calculating method. Poisson's ratio of sandstone and shale is different from one another in low and high stress regimes,but it is linearly proportional to the stress in an elastic regimes, that is, ${\nu}_t={\;}{\nu}_0+P_{\sigma}({\nu}_0$:first stage Poisson's ratio, ${\nu}_t$:poisson's ratio, P: poisson's coefficient, $\sigma$:stress). Poisson's ratios of two kinds of rock samples show continuous variation from 0.1 to 0.21 in an elastic regime. The variation of poisson's ratio is much wider in an internal fracture regine. It varies from 0.22 to 0.45 in sandstone, which is out of elastic regime.

Optical spectroscopy of LMC SNRs to reveal the origin of [P II] knots

  • Observational studies of supernova (SN) feedback are limited. In our galaxy, most supernova remnants (SNRs) are located in the Galactic plane, so there is contamination from foreground/background sources. SNRs located in other galaxies are too far, so we cannot study them in detail. The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is a unique place to study the SN feedback due to their proximity, which makes possible to study the structure of individual SNRs in some detail together with their environment. Recently, we carried out a systematic study of 13 LMC SNRs using [P II] (1.189 ㎛) and [Fe II] (1.257 ㎛) narrowband imaging with SIRIUS/IRSF, four SNRs (SN 1987A, N158A, N157B and N206), show [P II]/[Fe II] ratio much higher than the cosmic abundance. While the high ratio of SN 1987A could be due to enhanced abundance in SN ejecta, we do not have a clear explanation for the other cases. We investigate the [P II] knots found in SNRs N206, N157B and N158A, using optical spectra obtained last November with GMOS-S mounted on Gemini-South telescope. We detected several emission lines (e.g., H I, [O I], He I, [O III], [N II] and [S II]) that are present in all three SNRs, among other lines that are only found in some of them (e.g., [Ne III], [Fe III] and [Fe II]). Various line ratios are measured from the three SNRs, which indicate that the ratios of N157B tend to differ from those of other two SNRs. We will use the abundances of He and N (from the detection of [N II] and He I emission lines), together with velocity measurements to tell whether the origin of the [P II] knots are SN ejecta or CSM/ISM. For this purpose we have built a family of radiative shock with self-consistent pre-ionization using MAPPINGS 5.1.18, with shock velocities in the range of 100 to 475 km/s. We will compare the observed and modeled line fluxes for different depletion factors.

  • The accelerated pace of climate crisis due to continuous industrialization and greenhouse gas emissions necessitates sustainable solutions that simultaneously address mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Naturebased Solutions (NbS) have gained prominence as viable approaches, with Green Infrastructure being a representative NbS. Green Infrastructure involves securing green spaces within urban areas, providing diverse climate adaptation functions such as removal of various air pollutants, carbon sequestration, and isolation. The proliferation of Green Infrastructure is influenced by the quantification of improvement effects related to various projects. To support decision-making by assessing the climate vulnerability of Green Infrastructure, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has developed i-Tree Tools. This study proposes a comprehensive evaluation approach for climate change adaptation types by quantifying the climate adaptation performance of urban Green Infrastructure. Using i-Tree Canopy, the analysis focuses on five urban green spaces covering more than 30 hectares, considering the tree ratio relative to the total area. The evaluation encompasses aspects of thermal environment, aquatic environment, and atmospheric environment to assess the overall eco-friendliness in terms of climate change adaptation. The results indicate that an increase in the tree ratio correlates with improved eco-friendliness in terms of thermal, aquatic, and atmospheric environments. In particular, it is necessary to prioritize consideration of the water environment sector in order to realize climate change adaptive green infrastructure, such as increasing green space in urban areas, as it has been confirmed that four out of five target sites are specialized in improving the water environment.
