  • Occasionally, MODEM test in satellite communication systems are needed. But Rx terminals in satellite communications are designed to obtain high SNR generally, therefore artificial bad conditions and environments are demanded for the test. One of the typical method is satellite output power reduction. Using noise generator can be another method. However, these costs a lot of money, time, and procedures in reality. In order to overcome these problems, this paper proposes an artificial noise generation method for MODEM test in satellite communication systems. First of all, SNR of a general heterodyne Rx terminal is calculated. Based on the calculation, a new model which is including variable attenuator is proposed to increase noise level. Simulation results illustrate the variable attenuator can control SNR, and these show that MODEM test in satellite communication systems be possible.

  • This paper describes a $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS RF switch for $3{\sim}5$ GHz UWB band(mode 1). It can improve isolation characteristics between ports by using deep n-well RF devices while their source and body terminals are separated. From the measurement results, the proposed T/R switch is comparative to the on-wafer probing measurement results of the series-shunt T/R switches. When the proposed T/R switch operates as Tx mode, measured insertion loss from Tx to output port is less than 1.5 dB and isolation between Tx and Rx is more than 27 dB for $3{\sim}5$ GHz. Return loss for the Tx port is more than -10 dB and input P1dB is +10 dBm.

  • In this paper, designs and test results of X-band Tx and Rx filters for satellite communications are presented. The passbands are 7.9 ~ 8.4 GHz and 7.25 ~ 7.75 GHz for the Tx filter and the Rx filter respectively. Both of the filters require very high rejection performance between the two passbands. In order to make these filters in an in-line type, non-resonating node method was adopted and E-plane junction was used for the non-resonating node. Design procedures of circuit model design and full-wave electromagnetic model design are described. The test results show that all the performances meet requirements including temperature variations and the sizes are smaller than those of domestic commercial filters by about 30 ~ 40 %.

  • In this paper, the wide-band monopole antenna with a parasitic element on the ground plane for application in Cellular, GSM and RFID mobile terminals such as the mobile phone or Personal Digital Assistant(PDA) phone is presented. The VSWR of the designed antenna is 2:1 over the frequency range of 820 MHz to 1040 MHz(bandwidth of 23.6 %). Therefore, the designed antenna can provide wide bandwidth covering the Cellular(824 MHz~894 MHz), RFID(908.5 MHz~914 MHz) and GSM(Tx:880 MHz~915 MHz, Rx:925 MHz~960 MHz). The radiation characteristics of the fabricated antenna were also studied. According to the measured radiation patterns, the maximum gains at 859 MHz and 911.25 MHz(center frequencies of the Cellualr and RFID bands) are -0.7 dBi and 0.16 dBi, respectively. The measured maximum gains of GSM bands are -0.48 dBi(897.5 MHz, the center frequency of Tx) and 1.69 dBi(942.5 MHz, the center frequency of Rx).
