This study has been performed to explore verbal and behavioral expression of sexual desires among male elderly residents who have been living in long tenn care facilities. There are three topics covered in this study; first, in what situations and how seriously do care workers encounter expression of sexual desires of the elderly residents? Second, what kind of negative consequences do they believe those sexual behaviors will lead to? Third, how can we implement defensive measures against the sexual behaviors? In this study, twenty three care workers working full time in five retirement and care facilities were asked about their experience and perception of the above study agendas, and answers of the qualitative interview were drawn as follow; first, the elderly residents apparently show a variety of sexual harassment and provoking behaviors such as sticking to specific women, physically touching and attacking, and induce obscenely activities against female residents, care workers, and volunteer visitors. Second, their sexual behaviors are often influenced by their isolated and abandoned emotionality as well as living situation in rural areas. Third, their sexual behaviors often critically affect care work plan and facility managements by severely discouraging female care givers and community supporters. Therefore in this study, suggestions and defensive measures were made as follows: first, education and counselling programs toward female workers and volunteers need to be developed, and the programs should cover psychological and behavioral mechanism of sexuality in later life. Second, self control plans need to be empowered toward the elderly residents; in the plans, the elderly residents shall be encouraged to evaluate primary cause and proper solutions of sexual behaviors of their peering residents. Third, combination of healthy housing and care facilities for frail elderly need to be integrated in a neighboring location, so that when residents and workers encounter extreme episodes of sexuality of healthy residents in a housing facility, the problematic sexual residents are partially transferred into a neighboring care facility and thereafter other residents and cafe givers are relieved from stressful contacts with the extremely sexual residents.
The purpose of this study was to improve and hand down traditional dining habits. Questionnaires were distributed to rural house wives in Kangwon-do. The results were as follows; 1. 30.8% of the respondents was 40 to 49 years old. 35.2% of their education was primary school. 49.5% of them had husbands and children. 44.2% of them had 3 to 4 family members. 26.9% of them earned 8 to 11 millon won yearly. 2. Their housing environment showed that 52.5% of housing was a Korean traditional house or Hanok. 72.1% of kitchen was a stand-up one. 66% of fuel was oil. 3. 99.3% of the respondents had refrigerators. 66.3% electronic range, 95.9% electronic rice cooker, 97.2% gas range, 59.6% mixer, 62% electronic fry pan respectively. 4. 73.5% of the respondents got information about Korean traditional food from seniors or friends. 36.6% of them learned new recipe from TV, newspapers and magazines. 43.3% of them thought their concern about meals was average. 48.4% of them paid much attention to prepare meals for themselves. 52.7% of them spent a half to one hour for preparing dinner. 48.3% of them ate processed foodstaffs often. 31.5% of them dined out once every two or three months. 5. 79.5% of them had rice for breakfast, 74.5% for lunch, and 98.4% for dinner respectively. 96.2% of the respondents made Kimchi and 55% among them had two kinds of Kimchi. 91.1% of them had two to three kinds of dishes except Kimchi for breakfast. 68% of them used a synthetic flavoring. 6. 16.2% of the respondents ate beef once a week, 40% pork, 23% chicken, 3% dog meat respectively. 37% of them ate mackerel pike, 25.5% mackerel once a week, 11.6% hairtail, 25.5% mackerel pike, 25.6% yeemunshu, 13.7% tuna respectively. Freshwater fishes such as mudfish, trout and Israel carp were their favorite onces.
At a time of emphasized need for user-oriented design, methods such as Post Occupancy Evaluation are being used to measure the exact demands of the users. The conventional methods, however, have mostly been conducted based on questionnaires printed on paper, which has posed numerous problems in researches designed to measure the visual demands. Along with the continued development of the internet and computer media, there have been examples of interactive media applications as a means of improving the existing paper-based research methods. This study is a follow-up to the primary study that unveiled cautious variances of the media. 200 samples of media-based researches were extracted to be used in analysis of in-depth visual demands. 200 housewives from rural Iud development zones, who exercises the most influence in household purchases in these regions where the problem of rate of distribution Is coming under the limelight, were chosen as the subjects. The subjects were selected from land development zones of Gimhae-si and Haeundae. At first, the research was prepared as a web-based endeavor but it employed direct research of field personnel in consideration of that this research is in the beginning. This follow-up study deals mainly with the visual demands for which cautious variances were detected in the primary study and includes analysis of mainly ground Plan layout, space coloration, livingroom utilization, and vlsual composition of LDK. Media research had the advantage of zero rate of questionnaire error due to a pre-programmed search routine, and it was possible to ascertain the actual trade-off basis demands of the residents in terms of ground plan layout. In addition, whereas conventional research methods based on still images were susceptible to the preconceptions of the respondents, the interactive media allowed for easy understanding of the spatial layout and thus made it possible for all respondents to provide answers under the same conditions.
This study aims to examine the type of residents' participation in village making including the case of "Making Happiness Village" -in the Jeollanam-do province and "Village Making" -in Haenam-gun. The study examines the potential and effects of these projects, draws conclusions and suggests the future direction of village making projects. The results of this study are summarized below. "Making Happiness Village" should be evaluated in detail as it has contributed to the successful and development of traditional Korean residential culture, and has helped to activate and develop agricultural and fishing villages through the improvement of the residential environment and attraction of urban people into the rural area. It also showed the possibility of a project to be settled as a representative of Namdo satisfying the demand for sustainable development. In order to enhance the integrity of a village making project, its master plan must be established and utilized by considering the current status and characteristics of a village, improving its physical environment and seeking a method for economic activation. Policy and economic support from central government and local governments are also required for such a project. The residents' autonomous organization,necessary for unifying the residents' capacity, must organize their own group, such as "Residents' Conference for Village Making (tentative name)" to integrate the existing organizations (women's association, youth group, etc) and establish a conference system to discuss and solve the current issues of the village.
This research investigated the relationships between families' environment, familism, and the agreement on the parent-child relations as depicted in Korean proverbs to find the change of the traditional values about parent-child relationships. The sample was comprised of 474 Korean married people. They were asked to rate the degree to which they agreed on the underlying value of each proverb. The data were collected through a mailed questionnaire and interview. The findings indicated that the responses of subjects varied as a function of families' environment and familism variables. More specifically, while the subjects living with extended family were more likely to rate the value toward children and daughter high, the subjects from nuclear family were more likely to express the affection toward children, to prefer boys, and to express child-rearing stress. In addition, the people who had lived with grandparents together tended to agree with the value of filial piety. The respondents from conservative surroundings were more likely to express the affection toward children and to prefer boys. The subjects from a rural community tended to prefer boys and to place high value on the authoritative control. The people who supported familism tended to express the affection toward children and child-rearing stress, to prefer boys, and to agree with the filial piety and authoritative control. But they tended to rate low on the value of children and daughter.
Since the cohousing idea, originated in Northern Europe, was introduced in the U.S. by architects Kathryn McCamant and Charles Durrett in the early 1980s, there are recently the largest number of cohousing communities and rapidly expanded in the U.S. So, it is necessary to appreciate the cohousing communities developed in U.S. In this study, we investigated the physical characteristics of cohousing and the methods of its residents' participation by means of a case study on cohousing communities in U.S. and suggested the future direction of the cohousing community. Also, this work could be exploited when the cohousing is introduced to Korea. At first, the general status and characteristics of U.S cohousing was explored using diverse sources such as literature, paper and Web site. And then, the direct visit survey was used to obtain the more exact and specific data about physical aspects and residents' participation in each community. We found that cohousing communities were mostly located in the urban and Rural area, which was founded in the 1990s, and new communities continue to be created in the U.S. Typically, the number of households is from 20 to 30 in one community. The land is generally owned by the community itself and its size is within 10 acres. Communities usually serve optional group meals in the common house at least two or five times a week. Each member's income is separated and the community members should take care of their common properties. The leader of community does not exist and most communities don't have the organization of community members. All cohousing communities use consensus as the basis for group decision-making.
In this study, we chose the rural house as a standard model. In order to review the energy difference of cooling and heating loads, we changed the thermal transmittance standards. By using the thermal transmittance standard in 2011 as the Basic CASE, the thermal transmittance standard in 2013 as well as 2016, and the thermal transmittance standard of passive houses, we compared the results with regard to the cooling and heating energy load. Because of the heat loss, it can be confirmed that with an improved thermal performance of the building structure, the maximum increase of the cooling energy load was 36 kWh from June to September. Because of the heat loss, it was also confirmed that with the improved thermal performance of a building structure, the maximum decrease of the heating energy load is 1,498 kWh from November to April. Even though the heat loss of the building structure could decrease the cooling energy load by improving thermal transmittance standards in Korea, the energy saving performance is worse than the situation of heating energy load in heating period. Compared with CASE 1 and CASE 2, as well as CASE 1 and CASE 3, we CASE 3 was found to have the best energy saving rate when compared to the other cases : CASE 3 increased by 1,452 kWh and CASE 2 by 588 kWh, because the window thermal transmittance standard of 2016 was added.
농촌지역 재가장애인의 재활서비스 이용실태를 파악하고자 일개 농촌지역 재가장애인(3-6급 뇌 병변 지체장애) 101명을 대상으로 2011년 3월부터 4월까지 면접 조사를 실시하였다. 대상자는 여자가 65.3%였고, 70세 이상이 53.5%로 가장 많았고, 초등졸 이하가 72.3%이었다. 주관적 경제상태는 보통이상이 56.4%, 의료보장형태는 94.1%가 건강보험이었다. 대상자의 장애 및 건강관련 특성으로는 지체장애가 81.2%, 장애등급별은 3-4급이 41.6%로 가장 많았고, 동반 질환이 있는 경우가 74.3%였다. 본인이 생각하는 자신의 장애정도가 '심각하다'고 한 경우가 69.3%였다. 재가장애인의 70.3%는 퇴원 후 현재 재활서비스를 받고 있었다. 이용하지 않는 이유로는 치료의 효과성과 주변 서비스 기관의 부재, 경제적인 측면 등을 이유로 들었다. 재활서비스를 받기 위해 이용하고 있는 기관은 병의원, 재활의학과 병의원, 한의원 보건소 순으로 많았다. 현재 이용하고 있는 재활서비스 내용에 대해 19.7%가 만족한다고 하였고, 불만족의 이유로는 거리가 멀어서가 가장 많았다. 현재 재활서비스 이용여부에 영향을 미치는 유의한 변수로는 성별, 직업유무, 주관적 경제상태, 장애발생 원인이었다. 즉, 여자인 경우, 직업을 가진 경우, 경제상태가 좋은 경우, 장애발생이 후천적인 경우 재활서비스 이용이 높았다. 농촌지역 재가장애인의 70.3%가 현재 재활서비스를 이용하고 있으나 포괄성, 접근성, 지속성, 만족도 등에서 미흡한 것으로 나타났다. 현재 국가차원에서 추진되고 있는 지역사회중심재활사업을 중심으로 농촌지역 재가장애인을 위한 양적 및 질적으로 충분한 재활서비스 제공이 요구되며, 미이용 집단 및 미충족 집단을 우선 사업대상자로 선정하여 서비스를 제공하는 전략이 필요할 것으로 판단된다.
This study was designed with the purpose to analyze the bias and the factor structure of Need of Living and to clear the influence of related variables on Need on Living. The Degree of Importance(Di) and of sufficiency(Ds) of 65 indicators which were the constituent components of Need of Living and were extracted from the 51 preceeding studies was estimated by the 1084 samples including 614 urban and 470 rural residents through the questionaire. The indicators with higher Di and lower Ds than average were considered to show the high level of Need of Living. The main results are as follows; 1. Generally speaking, the level of Di was higher than that of Ds. Specially this was serious in the case of the indicators related with social-economic equity, employment, housing and environment. 2. Di level of the indicators such as physical health, judicial equality, the life of planned expenditure was highest. Specially the equity of income allocation was considered to be more important than the increase of income or asset itself. 3. Ds level of the indicators such as the life of plannel expenditure, the development of transportation and communication and the relationship between parents and children was highest, adn that of the use of leisure time, socialactivity, economic equality and social welfare was lowest. 4. Through the oblique rotation of Factor analysis, 12 factors were extracted (total eigen value 32.663, total variance 50.251%). Specially Factor 1 which was christened as the equality and development of social-economic life was related with 11 indicators and its common variance was 51.68%. 5. The rural residents, the lower income group and the lower educated group, who were told of being under disadvantage and unfair treatment of social-economic status, showed higher suffiency on the equity of income allocation, the freedom of living and expression, and judicial equality. 6. Generally speaking, the urban residents, the group under 39 years old, the higher educated group had more intensive Need of Living than the other groups.
The purpose of this study is to examine the policy direction and execution plans of the Japanese central and local governments for the use of vacant houses after the enactment of the "Special Act on Vacant Houses." It also seeks to provide suggestions for establishing vacant house policies in Korea by identifying the characteristics of the Japanese policies, and to suggest policy alternatives that can contribute to environmental improvement and regional revitalization through the use of vacant houses. For this purpose, we examined Japan's "Special Act on Vacant Houses," the process of establishing vacant house policies in the Japanese central and local governments, and the contents and direction of these policies. Below are the results of this study. First, the Japanese government revised mid to long-term policies related to housing after the enactment of the "Special Act on Vacant Houses", thereby providing ground for local governments to establish vacant house policies. Second, the government actively supported the operation and funding of related associations so that the private sector rather than the public sector could address vacant house problems. Third, the government subsidized administrative expenses such as cost of finding vacant house owners to prevent neglect of vacant houses, and showed its will to address vacant house problems by revising taxes such as property taxes and transfer income taxes. Fourth, the government has enacted distinct ordinances for each local government and made it possible to perform customized policies such as allowing residents and local stakeholders to participate in the establishment of vacant house policies. Fifth, the government made it possible to manage vacant houses efficiently by allowing the vacant house bank to provide all information related to the use of vacant houses. It is necessary for Korea's central and local governments to refer to these precedent cases and create efforts to reduce trial and error when establishing vacant house policies.
