With the proliferation of WWW, providing more intelligence to Web sites has become a major concern in e-business industry. In recent days, this trend is more accelerated by prosperity of CRM (Customer Relationship Management) in terms of various aspects such as product recommendation, self after service, etc. To accomplish this goal, many e-companies are eager to embed web enabled rule-based system, that is, expert systems into their Web sites and several well-known commercial tools are already available in the market. Most of those tools are developed based on CGI so far but CGI based systems inherently suffer over-burden problem when there are too many service demands at the same time due to the nature of CGI. To overcome this limitation of the existing CGI based expert systems, we propose a new form of Web-enabled expert system using hyperlink-based inference mechanism. In terms of burden to Web server, our approach is proven to outperform CGI based approach theoretically and also empirically. For practical purpose, our this approach is implemented in a software system, WeBIS and a graphic rule editing methodology, Expert Diagram is incorporated into the system to facilitates rule generation and maintenance. WeBIS is now successfully operated for financial consulting in the web site of a leading financial consulting company in Korea.

Identifying clinical pathways for disease diagnosis and treatment process recommendations are seriously decision-intensive tasks for health care practitioners. It requires them to rely on their expertise and experience to analyze various categories of health parameters from a health record to arrive at a decision in order to provide an accurate diagnosis and treatment recommendations to the end user (patient). Technological adaptation in the area of medical diagnosis using AI is dispensable; using expert systems to assist health care practitioners in decision-making is becoming increasingly popular. Our work architects a novel knowledge-based recommender system model, an expert system that can bring adaptability and transparency in usage, provide in-depth analysis of a patient's medical record, and prescribe diagnostic results and treatment process recommendations to them. The proposed system uses a set of parallel discrete fuzzy rule-based classifier systems, with each of them providing recommended sub-outcomes of discrete medical conditions. A novel knowledge-based combiner unit extracts significant relationships between the sub-outcomes of discrete fuzzy rule-based classifier systems to provide holistic outcomes and solutions for clinical decision support. The work establishes a model to address disease diagnosis and treatment recommendations for primary lung disease issues. In this paper, we provide some samples to demonstrate the usage of the system, and the results from the system show excellent correlation with expert assessments.
One of the most difficult and time-consuming stages in the development of the knowledge-based system is a knowledge acquisition. A splitting algorithm is developed to infer a rule-tree which can be converted to a rule-typed knowledge. A market segmentation may be performed in order to establish market strategy suitable to each market segment. As the sales data of a product market is probabilistic and noisy, it becomes necessary to prune the rule-tree-at an acceptable level while generating a rule-tree. A splitting algorithm is developed using the pruning measure based on a total amount of information gain and the measure of existing algorithms. A user can easily adjust the size of the resulting rule-tree according to his(her) preferences and problem domains. The algorithm is applied to a market segmentation problem of a medium-large computer market. The algorithm is illustrated step by step with a sales data of a computer market and is analyzed.

In the adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control, from a set of fuzzy IF-THEN rules adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control whose parameters are adjusted on-line according to some adaptation laws is constructed for the purpose of controlling the plant to track a desired trajectory. Most of the research works in nonlinear controller design using fuzzy systems consider the affine system with fixed grid-rule structure based on system state availability. The fixed grid-rule structure makes the order of the controller big unnecessarily, hence the on-line fuzzy rule structure and fuzzy observer based adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller is proposed to solve system state availability problems. Therefore adaptive laws of fuzzy parameters ...

Experimental software datasets describing software projects in terms of their complexity and development time have been the subject of intensive modeling. A number of various modeling methodologies and modeling designs have been proposed including such approaches as neural networks, fuzzy, and fuzzy neural network models. In this study, we introduce the concept of the Rule-based fuzzy polynomial neural networks (RFPNN) as a hybrid modeling architecture and discuss its comprehensive design methodology. The development of the RFPNN dwells on the technologies of Computational Intelligence (CI), namely fuzzy sets, neural networks, and genetic algorithms. The architecture of the RFPNN results from a synergistic usage of RFNN and PNN. RFNN contribute to the formation of the premise part of the rule-based structure of the RFPNN. The consequence part of the RFPNN is designed using PNN. We discuss two kinds of RFPNN architectures and propose a comprehensive learning algorithm. In particular, it is shown that this network exhibits a dynamic structure. The experimental results include well-known software data such as the NASA dataset concerning software cost estimation and the one describing software modules of the Medical Imaging System (MIS).
Service organizations increasingly adopt data-based intelligent engines called chatbots in support of the interaction between customers and the companies. Two different types of chatbots have been suggested and introduced by companies leading the adoption of this emerging technology: rule-based chatbots and natural language processing-based chatbots. While the differences between these two types of technologies look relatively clear, the organizational and practical impacts of the differences have not been systematically explored. This study performed an experiment to compare the use of the two different types of chatbots used in practice by two comparable organizations. These two types of actual chatbots were used by Korean on-line shopping malls with similar business models (mobile shopping), length of history, size and reputation. The comparison was made based on such dimensions as usability, searchability, reliability and attractiveness. Contraty to conventional expectation that the superiority in technology will produce superior usability, the results show mixed superiority. The discussion on the reasons is presented.
This paper proposes a Expert CAPP System for integrating CAD/CAM of rotational work-part by rule based approach. The CAD/CAPP integration is performed by the recognition of machined features from the 2-D CAD data (IGES) file. Selecting functions of the process planning are performed in modularized rule base by forward chaining inference, and operation sequences are determined by means of heuristic search algorithm. For CAPP/CAM integration, post-processor generates NC code from route sheet file. This system coded in OPS5 and C language on PC/AT, and EMCO CNC lathe interfaced with PC through DNC and RS-232C.
