  • With the continuous growth of e-commerce there is a huge amount of products information available online. Shop managers expect to apply information techniques to increase profit and perfect service. Hence many e-commerce systems use association rule mining to further refine their management. However previous association rule algorithms have two limitations. Firstly, they only use the number to weight item's essentiality and ignore essentiality of item profit. Secondly, they did not consider the relationship between number and profit of item when they do mining. We address a novel algorithm, profit-based association rule algorithm that uses profit-based technique to generate 1-itemsets and the multiple minimum supports mining technique to generate N-items large itemsets.

  • Understanding and adapting to changes of customer behavior is an important aspect for a company to survive in continuously changing environment. The aim of this paper is to develop a methodology which detects changes of customer behavior automatically from customer profiles and sales data at different time snapshots. For this purpose, we first define three types of changes as emerging pattern, unexpected change and the added / perished rule. Then we develop similarity and difference measures for rule matching to detect all types of change. Finally, the degree of change is evaluated to detect significantly changed rules. Our proposed methodology can evaluate degree of changes as well as detect all kinds of change automatically from different time snapshot data. A case study for evaluation and practical business implications for this methodology are also provided.

  • Association rule mining searches for interesting relationships among items in a given database. Association rules are frequently used by retail stores to assist in marketing, advertising, floor placement, and inventory control. There are three primary quality measures for association rule, support and confidence and lift. In this paper we present the relation between the measure of association based on chi square statistic and the criteria of association rule for nominal database and propose the objective criteria for association.

  • Data mining is the method to find useful information for large amounts of data in database. It is used to find hidden knowledge by massive data, unexpectedly pattern, and relation to new rule. The methods of data mining are decision tree, association rules, clustering, neural network and so on. We analyze industrial waste database using data mining technique. We use k-means algorithm for clustering and C5.0 algorithm for decision tree and Apriori algorithm for association rule. We can use these outputs for environmental preservation and environmental improvement.

  • One of the well-studied problems in data mining is the search for association rules. Association rules are useful for determining correlations between attributes of a relation and have applications in marketing, financial and retail sectors. There are three criteria of association rule; support, confidence, lift. The goal of association rule mining is to find all the rules with support and confidence exceeding some user specified thresholds. We can know there is association between two items by the criteria of association rules. But we can not know the degree of association between two items. In this paper we examine the relation between the measures of association and the criteria of association rule for ordinal data.

  • Applying various association rule mining algorithms to the network intrusion detection task involves two critical issues: too large size of generated rule set which is hard to be utilized for IoT systems and hardness of control of false negative/positive rates. In this research, we propose an association rule mining algorithm based on the newly defined measures called coverage and exclusion. Coverage shows how frequently a pattern is discovered among the transactions of a class and exclusion does how frequently a pattern is not discovered in the transactions of the other classes. We compare our algorithm experimentally with the Apriori algorithm which is the most famous algorithm using the public dataset called KDDcup99. Compared to Apriori, the proposed algorithm reduces the resulting rule set size by up to 93.2 percent while keeping accuracy completely. The proposed algorithm also controls perfectly the false negative/positive rates of the generated rules by parameters. Therefore, network analysts can effectively apply the proposed association rule mining to the network intrusion detection task by solving two issues.

  • Association Rule Mining has been successfully used for mining knowledge in static environment but it provides limited features to discovery time-dependent knowledge from multi-point data set. The aim of this paper is to develop a methodology which detects changes of customer behavior automatically from customer profiles and sales data at different multi-point snapshots. This paper proposes a procedure named 'Recursive Change Mining' for detecting continuous change of customer purchase behavior. The Recursive Change Mining Procedure is basically extended association rule mining and it assures to discover continuous and repetitive changes from data sets which collected at multi-periods. A case study on L department store is also provided.

  • Nowadays, lots of data mining applications based on continuous and online real time are increasing by the rapid growth of the data processing technique. In order to do association rule mining in that application, we have to use new techniques to find the frequent itemsets. Most of the existing techniques to find the frequent itemsets should scan the total database repeatedly. But in the application based on the continuous and online real time, it is impossible to scan the total database repeatedly. We have to find the frequent itemsets with only one scan of the data interval for that kind of application. So in this paper we propose an approximation technique which finds the maximum size of the frequent itemsets and items included in the maximum size of the frequent itemsets for the processing of association rule mining.
