Thermal Properties of Cured Epoxy Resin Filled with Rubber Complex-Treated Silica (고무상 복합물로 표면처리 한 실리카를 충전한 에폭시 수지 경화물의 열적 특성)

  • [ ${\gamm}-Glycidoxy$ ] propyl trimethoxy silane, CTBN rubber(carboxyl terminated butadiene acrylonitrile rubber) and GMA(glycidyl methacrylate) were reacted on the surface of silica one by one in existence of TEA(triethylamine) or BPO(benzoyl peroxide). The amount of reactant was $2.5{\sim}5.8%$ of treated silica weight. The treated silica was mixed with epoxy resin and MTHPA(methyl tetrahydro phthalic anhydride) in the range of $0{\sim}60%$(wt.%) of total component. The thermal properties were tested for cured products. By using silica treated with silane/rubber or silane/rubber/vinyl, comparing with 3% of rubber mixed directly, it had 13% higher $T_g$ and 10% lower thermal expansion coefficient at $35{\sim}55%$ of silica contents.

  • Rubber is used as a primary suspension component in a vehicle or a mechanical structure. The aim of this study is to establish a procedure for measuring the material properties of rubber and to analyze the differences of material properties of virgin rubber and heat aged rubber. The effect of mechanical conditioning was shown and included in the procedures of tensile. compression. simple shear. and pure shear tests. In addition. using engine oil was recommended for compression test in order not to have barrelling. Moreover, based on the material properties of vil·gin rubber and heat aged rubber. equations of C10 and IRHD were proposed as a function of heat aging temperature and time.

  • Predicting fatigue life of rubber components is an important issue in design procedure for industrial trucks to assure the durability and reliability. Main considerations in designing rubber components against fatigue failure are the compounding technology, shape design, and manufacturing process. Among them the rubber compounding technology is one of the most critical factor to determine more than 50% of component's quality. This paper presents how to improve the durability and reliability of industrial rubber mount during its design, development and prototype testing. The data presented illustrates explicitly the prediction of reliability growth in the product development cycle. The application of these techniques is a part of the product assurance function that plays an important role in rubber components reliability improvement.

  • Rubber-modified polyurethane resin which was prepolymer type terminated with NCO, was synthesized by reacting isocyanate groups[NCO] and hydroxyl groups[OH]. Polybutadiene rubbers which had OH groups in the side of rubber chains, were charged at ratio $0%{\sim}40%$ of solid component in reactants. For products, physical properties were investigated experimentally. The results abtained in experiment were as follows. 1. Liquid resin and dried film was good solubility and clearity at less than 25%, 20% of rubber without being related to sort. 2. G-1000 showed better properties than R-45HT in solubility, dring time and adhesive strength. 3. Dring time and adhesive strength were considerably influenced by molecular weigh and structure of rubber. 4. In using 25% of mixed rubber(G-1000/R-45HT=50/50), It represented best properties in dring time(10 minute) and adhesive strength($23Kg/cm^2$).

  • In this work, the effects of plasma treatment on surface properties of semi conductive silicone rubber were investigated in terms of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). The adhesion characteristics of semiconductive-insulating interface layer of silicone rubber were studied by measuring the T-peel strengths. As a result, semiconductive silicone rubber surfaces treated with plasma discharge led to and increase in oxygen-containing functional groups, resulting in improving the degree of adhesion of the semiconductive-insulating interface layer of silicone rubber. these results are probably due to the modifications of surface functional groups or polar component of surface free energy of the semi conductive silicone rubber.

  • In this paper, the standard test methods at low temperature of rubber suspension components of railway vehicle are investigated and reviewed. In order to connect the TKR(Trans-Korean Railway)-TSR(Trans-Siberian Railway), it is necessary to evaluate the performance of rubber suspenion components of railway vehicle. In the current Korean Standard, the test method at low temperature of railway vehilce components and the test method of rubber bellows of air spring are specified. But, the specified test temperature is higher than the the operating temperature of TSR railway. So, the in-depth research for the test method and performance evaluation technique of rubber suspension component at low temperature is necessary and current KS code should be adjusted.

  • The finite element analyses of mechanical rubber components are executed to predict the behavior of deformation and stress distribution in destgn step. The non-linear properties of rubber which are described as strain energy functions are important parameters to design and evaluate rubber components. These are determined by material tests which are tension, compression and shear test. The behaviors of loads-displacements of rubber components such as a roll tubber spring and resilient ring and additional spring for railway suspension system are evaluated by using commercial FEA code. It is shown that the results by FEA simulations are in close agreement with the test results.

  • Mechanical systems with rubber parts have been used widely in industry fields. The evaluation of the physical characteristics of rubber is important in rubber application. Rubber material is useful to machine component for excellent shock absorbing characteristics. The impact characteristics of rubber were examined by experimental and finite element method. The impact test was conducted with a free-drop type impact tester. The ABAQUS/Explicit was used for finite element analysis. In the finite element analysis, elastic modulus of rubber using impact force was used as dynamic modulus, which are measured and predicted with dynamic property test and WLF model. The analysis result was coincided with the experimental results.

  • In this work, the effects of plasma treatment on surface properties of semiconductive silicone rubber were investigated in terms of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and contact angles, The adhesion characteristics of semiconductive-insulating interface layer of silicone rubber were studied by measuring the T-peel strengths, The results of the chemical analysis showed that C-H bonds were broken due to plasma discharge and Silica-like bonds(SiOx, x=3${\~}$4) increased, It is thought that semiconductive silicone rubber surfaces treated with plasma discharge led to an increase in oxygen-containing functional groups, resulting in improving the degree of adhesion of the semiconductive-insulating interface layer of silicone rubber. However, the oxygen plama for 20 minute produces a damaged oxidized semiconductive silicone rubber layer, which acts as a weak layer producing a decrease in T-peel strength, These results are probably due to the modifications of surface functional groups or polar component of surface free energy of the semiconductive silicone rubber.

  • With the increase of storage density and data transfer rates in optical disk drive, mechanical issues, mainly noise and vibration, become critical. Rubber materials are extensively used in various machine design application, mainly for vibration/shock/noise control devices. However, there are still a lot of difficulties in the use of designing the rubber components with complex shape and under pre-deformed state. It was demonstrated in that the variation of rubber component stiffness with the pre-deformed state were calculated by the finite element method and the reliability of numerical results were checked by compared with the measuring the deflection values. This paper presents a efficient design method of rubber mounts for anti-vibration of an optical disk thrive. With an empirical equation to estimate elastic modulus from hardness, and dynamic characteristics of rubber material of a cylindrical shape, this method is capable of predicting the dynamic characteristics of rubber components at design stage.
