GPU Acceleration of Range Doppler Algorithm for Real-Time SAR Image Generation (실시간 SAR 영상 생성을 위한 Range Doppler Algorithm의 GPU 가속)

  • In this paper, a GPU-accelerated kernel of range Doppler algorithm (RDA) was developed for real-time image formation based on frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) synthetic aperture radar (SAR). A pinned memory was used to minimize the data transfer time between the host and the GPU device, and the kernel was configured to perform all RDA operations on the GPU to minimize the number of data transfers. The dataset was obtained through the FMCW drone SAR experiment, and the GPU acceleration effect was measured in an intel i7-9700K CPU, 32GB RAM, and Nvidia RTX 3090 GPU environment. Including the data transfer time between host and devices, it was measured to be accelerated up to 3.41 times compared to the CPU, and when only the acceleration effect of operation was measured without including the data transfer time, it was confirmed that it could be accelerated up to 156 times.

  • The immune response against Trichinella spiralis at the intestinal level depends on the $CD4^+$ T cells, which can both suppress or promote the inflammatory response through the synthesis of diverse cytokines. During the intestinal phase, the immune response is mixed (Th1/Th2) with the initial predominance of the Th1 response and the subsequent domination of Th2 response, which favor the development of intestinal pathology. In this context, the glucocorticoids (GC) are the pharmacotherapy for the intestinal inflammatory response in trichinellosis. However, its therapeutic use is limited, since studies have shown that treatment with GC suppresses the host immune system, favoring T. spiralis infection. In the search for novel pharmacological strategies that inhibit the Th1 immune response (proinflammatory) and assist the host against T. spiralis infection, recent studies showed that resiniferatoxin (RTX) had anti-inflammatory activity, which decreased the serum levels of IL-12, $INF-{\gamma}$, $IL-1{\beta}$, $TNF-{\alpha}$, NO, and $PGE_2$, as well the number of eosinophils in the blood, associated with decreased intestinal pathology and muscle parasite burden. These researches demonstrate that RTX is capable to inhibit the production of Th1 cytokines, contributing to the defense against T. spiralis infection, which places it as a new potential drug modulator of the immune response.

GPU-based Parallel Ant Colony System for Traveling Salesman Problem

  • In this paper, we design and implement a GPU-based parallel algorithm to effectively solve the traveling salesman problem through an ant color system. The repetition process of generating hundreds or thousands of tours simultaneously in TSP utilizes GPU's task-level parallelism, and the update process of pheromone trails data actively exploits data parallelism by 32x32 thread blocks. In particular, through simultaneous memory access of multiple threads, the coalesced accesses on continuous memory addresses and concurrent accesses on shared memory are supported. This experiment used 127 to 1002 city data provided by TSPLIB, and compared the performance of sequential and parallel algorithms by using Intel Core i9-9900K CPU and Nvidia Titan RTX system. Performance improvement by GPU parallelization shows speedup of about 10.13 to 11.37 times.

  • In this paper, we propose a real-time centralized soft motion control system for high speed and precision robot control. The system engages EtherCAT as high speed industrial motion network to enable force based motion control in real-time and is composed of software-based master controller with PC and slave interface modules. Hard real-time control capacity is essential for high speed and precision robot control. To implement soft based real time control, The soft based master controller is designed using a real time kernel (RTX) and EtherCAT network, and servo processes are located in the master controller for centralized motion control. In the proposed system, slave interface modules just collect and transfer all sensor information of robot to the master controller via the EtherCAT network. It is proven by experimental results that the proposed soft motion control system has real time controllability enough to apply for various robot control systems.

  • Repeated morphine administration induces tolerance to its analgesic effects. A previous study reported that repeated morphine treatment activates transient receptor potential vanilloid type 1 (TRPV1) expression in the sciatic nerve, dorsal root ganglion, and spinal cord, contributing to morphine tolerance. In the present study, we analyzed TRPV1 expression and binding sites in supraspinal pain pathways in morphine-tolerant mice. The TRPV1 mRNA levels and binding sites were remarkably increased in the cortex and thalamus of these animals. Our data provide additional insights into the effects of morphine on TRPV1 in the brain and suggest that changes in the expression of, and binding to TRPV1 in the brain are involved in morphine tolerance.

  • PDF (Portable Document Format)는 1992년 Adobe 에서 개발한 파일 형식으로 ISO 32000 으로 표준화 되어 전세계적으로 사용되고 있다. PDF와 같이 주로 사용되는 파일은 암호 해독(Password Cracking)의 대상이 될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 PDF 1.4-1.6 암호 해독을 위해 CUDA GPU 상의 최적 구현하였다. 암호 해독에 사용되는 MD5와 RC4 알고리즘의 최적화와 CUDA GPU의 요소를 사용하였으며 RTX 3060 환경에서 크래킹 도구 해시캣과 비교하여 22.5%의 성능 향상을 달성하였다.

Prevalence of Toxin Genes and Antibiotic Resistance Profiles of Vibrio vulnificus strains isolated from Jeju Island (제주도에서 분리된 비브리오패혈증균의 독소 유전자 분포 및 항생제 내성)

  • Vibrio vulnificus, the most fatal waterborne and foodborne pathogens of 50% fatality rate in the world, is common in seawater and occurs particularly in warmer months. In this study, we investigated the toxin genes using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), antibiotic resistance status using Vitek, and genetic characteristics using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) of different V. vulnificus strains isolated from the Jeju Island seawater, distribution fishery products, and fish tanks. We examined a total of 487 samples and isolated a total of 46 strains (including overlapping strains) of V. vulnificus, 44 strains from seawater and 1 strain each from fishery products and fish tank. We detected toxin gene vvhA in all 46 strains and rtxA, viu in 8 strains (17.4%) and 9 strains (19.6%) strains, respectively. Antibiotic resistance tests indicated 100% resistance to cefoxitin antibiotics. The PFGE analysis of the 46 strains identified a total of 6 types showed 100% homology and the degree of similarity was 81.3-98.0%; however, there were no similarity between the regions and samples. These results indicate that V. vulnificus isolated from the seawater, fishery products, and fish tanks should be continuously monitored as cases of food poisoning caused by V. vulnificus with toxin genes have been reported in Jeju Island.

  • Recently, as new weapons are being developed, test equipments to test their functions inevitably require real-time features. However, since test equipments based on Windows can not support real-time requirements, we have no choice but to use third-party solutions such as RTX or INtime. This leads to increase the development cost of each test equipment. This paper suggests an real-time implemented kernel(RTiK) which operates as a device driver on Windows. RTiK provides another timer using the Local APIC of x86 microprocessors. It supports real-time requirements by periodically executing the required services using Windows-independent timer interrupts to guarantee task deadlines. To reduce the interrupt latency, we used deferred procedure calls provided by Windows. We also used the export driver to implement and modify user-defined functions without accessing the RTiK internals. Using an oscilloscope, we prove that the RTiK kernel proposed in this paper guarantees up to 0.1ms periods.

Profiles of Virulence Genes and Antimicrobial Resistance of Vibrio vulnificus Strains Isolated from Seawater and Fisheries (해수 및 수산물에서 분리한 Vibrio vulnificus의 병원성 유전자 및 항균제 내성)

  • We isolated 28 Vibrio vulnificus strains from seawater and fisheries and investigated the positive rate of eight virulence genes. Additionally, we evaluated the susceptibility of these strains to 25 antimicrobials. The positive rates of fur, vvhA, tcp, rtxA, vcgC, viuB, vvp, and acfA were 100, 92.9, 92.9, 67.9, 64.3, 25.0, 14.3, and 7.1%, respectively. A disk diffusion susceptibility test revealed that, all the investigated strains had the highest resistance to amoxicillin and oxacillin, followed by that to streptomycin (96.4%), cefoxitin (92.9%), clindamycin (82.1%), amikacin (67.9%), vancomycin (46.4%), nalidixic acid (7.1%), penicillin G (7.1%), and ampicillin (3.6%). Moreover, they were susceptible to 10 other antimicrobials, including cefotaxime, chloramphenicol, erythromycin, gentamicin, and rifampicin. Notably, amoxicillin, oxacillin, and streptomycin had average minimum inhibitory concentrations of 132.6, 603.4, and 23.1 ㎍/mL against V. vulnificus, respectively. These observations provide new insights regarding the necessity for sanitation of commercial fisheries and can potentially, help reduce the risk posed by fisheries contaminated with bacteria resistant to antimicrobials.
