  • This study was undertaken to compare by Atomic Force Microscope the effects of various finishing and polishing instruments on surface roughness of filling and veneering composite resins. Seven composite resins were studied : Silux Plus (3M Dental Products, U.S.A.), Charisma (Heraeus Kulzer, Germany), Prisma THP (L.D.Caulk, Dentsply, U.S.A.), Photoclearfil (Kuraray, Japan), Cesead (Kuraray, Japan), Thermoresin LC (GC, Japan), Artglass (Heraeus Kulzer, Germany). Samples were placed and polymerized in holes (2mm thick and 8.5mm in diameter) machined in Teflon mold under glass plate, ensuring excess of material and moulded to shape with polyester matrix strip. Except control group (Polyester matrix strip), all experimental groups were finished and polishied under manufacturer's instructions. The finishing and polishing procedure were : carbide bur (E.T carbide set 4159, Komet, Germany), diamond bur (composite resin polishing bur set, GC, Japan), aluminum-oxide disc (Sof-Lex Pop-On, 3M Dental Products, U.S.A.), diamond-particle disc (Dia-Finish, Renfert Germany), white stone bur & rubber point( composite finishing kit, EDENTA, Swiss), respectively. Each specimens were evaluated for the surface roughness with Atomic Force Microscope (AutoProbe CP, Park Scientific Instruments, U.S.A.) under contact mode and constant height mode. The results as follows : 1. Except Thermoresin LC, all experimental composite resin groups showed more rougher than control group after finishing and polishing(p<0.1). 2. A surface as smooth as control group was obtained by $Al_{2}O_{3}$ disc all filling composite resin groups except Charisma and all veneering composite resin groups except Thermoresin LC(p<0.05). 3. In case of Thermoresin LC, there were no statistically significant differences before and after finishing and polishing(p>0.1). 4. Carbide bur, diamond bur showed rough surfaces in all composite resin groups, so these were inappropriate for the final polishing instruments.

  • In this paper we introduce a new prototype based classifiers for overlapping data, where training pattern can be overlap on the feature space. The proposed classifier is based on the prototype from neural network classifier (NNC)[1] for overlap data. The method automatically chooses the initial center and two radiuses for each class. The center is used as a mean representative of training data for each class. The unclassified pattern is classified by measure distance from the class center. If the distance is in the lower (shorter radius) the unknown pattern has the high percentage of being in this class. If the distance is between the lower and upper (further radius), the pattern has the probability of being in this class or others. But if the distance is outside the upper, the pattern is not in this class. We borrow the words upper and lower from the rough set to represent the region of certainty [3]. The training algorithm to find number of cluster and their parameters (center, lower, upper) is presented. The clustering result is tested using patterns from Thai handwritten letter and the clustering result is very similar to human eyes clustering.

  • Automatic change detection based on the vector-to-raster comparison is hard especially in high-resolution image. This paper proposes a method to designate roads in high-resolution image in sequential manner using the information from vector map in which Hough transform is used for reliability. By its linearity, the road of urban areas in a vector map can be easily parameterized. Following some pre-processing to remove undesirable objects, we obtain the edge map of raster image. Then the edge map is transformed to a parameter space to find the selected road from vector map. The comparison is done in the parameter space to find the best matching. The set of parameters of a road from vector map is treated as the constraints to do matching. After designating the road, we may overlay it on the raster image for precise monitoring. The results can be used for detection of changes in road object in a semi-automatic fashion.

  • In this paper, we propose a new measure based on the confidence of Bayesian posterior probability so as to reduce unimportant information in the clustering process. Because the performance of clustering is up to selecting the important degree of attributes within the databases, the concept of information entropy is added to posterior probability for attributes discernibility. Hence, The same value of attributes in the confidence of the proposed measure is considerably much less due to the natural logarithm. Therefore posterior probability-based clustering algorithm selects the minimum of attribute reducts and improves the efficiency of clustering. Analysis of the validation of the proposed algorithms compared with others shows their discernibility as well as ability of clustering to handle uncertainty with ACME categorical data.

  • Recently we suffered lot of failures of polymer surge arresters made by same manufacture after one year field operation. In order to set up countermeasures we investigated the causes of failures. We extracted faulted arresters and sound ones which were installed in same pole with faulted ones for the electrical test and dissection. 44 arresters were removed from 8 branch offices. Almost all of faulted arresters hadtracking damage on the interface between inner module and housing and the surface of inner module was very rough and irregular. It was possible to occur moisture ingress into the interface between inner module and housing due to the void of the interface and non tight sealing caps. Lots of sound arresters were failed during the moisture ingress test. This result must relate with tracking damage of faulted arresters. Therefore we can say that arresters had poor interface and sealing system. But we could not found aging and defects of ZnO elements because the electrical performance except moisture ingress test of arresters showed good.

  • This paper is used the color space distribution HMMD model presented in MPEG-7 in order to segment and detect the wanted image parts as a real time without the user's manufacturing in the video object segmentation. Here, it is applied the wavelet morphology to remove a small part that is regarded as a noise in image and a part excepting for the face image. Also, it did the optimal composition by the rough set. In this paper, tile proposed video object detection algorithm is confirmed to be superior as detecting the face object exactly than the conventional algorithm by applying those to the different size images.put the of paper here.

  • The flexural and horizontal shear behavior of overlaid concrete slabs with polymer interface is investigated in the present study. An experimental program was set up and several series of overlaid concrete slabs have been tested to study the effect of different surface preparations and dowel bars between old slab and overlay under service and ultimate loads. 'The cracking and ulti mate load behavior for various cases including acryl emulsion treatment and doweled joints has been studied. The present study indica.tes that the overlaid concrete slabs behave integrally with existing bottom slabs up to ultimate range for rough and doweled joints with polymer interface. The pres ent study provides a firm base for the realistic design of two-layered RC slabs in bridges.

  • Numerical simulations and experiment of a hydrodynamic and thermally developed turbulent flow through square ducts (3.0 ${\times}$ 3.0 cm) with twisted tape inserts and with twisted tape inserts plus interrupted ribs are conducted to investigate regionally averaged heat transfer and friction factors. Turbulent swirl flows having Reynolds numbers ranging from 8,900 to 29,000, a rib height-to-channel hydraulic diameter(e/D$_h$) of 0.067, and a length-to-hydraulic diameter(L/D$_h$) of 30, are considered. The square ribs are arranged to follow the trace of the twisted tape and along the flow direction defined as axial interrupted ribs. The twisted tape has 0.1 mm thick carbon steel sheet with diameter of 2.8 cm, length of 90 cm, and 2.5 turns. Each wall is composed of isolated aluminum sections, and two cases of surface heating are set. The results show that uneven surface heating enhances the heat transfer coefficient over uniform heating conditions, and square ducts with twisted tape inserts plus interrupted ribs produces the best overall transfer performance.

  • Hybrid locomotive UGV with actively articulated legs along with wheeled ends has high traversability to travel over rough terrain. The behavior control method was usually adapted for the controlling of the suspension configuration which determines the traversability of the UGV. In this study, we are proposing a method of configuration planning of the legs without any detail geometric data about the terrain. The terrain was estimated by the traces of each wheel and the leg configurations for the desired posture of the vehicle were set up against the constraints of the terrain. Also, an optimal leg configuration was calculated based on the quasi-static stability and power consumption, and plans for the leg behavior were made. Validity of the proposed method was checked by simulations using some off-the-shelf programs, and showed that the orientation control without geometric features of terrains and simplification of the behavior planning for obstacle negotiation were possible.

  • This paper proposes a framework to automatically align Dental range image captured by depth sensors like the Microsoft Kinect. Aligning dental images by intraoral scanning technology is a difficult problem for applications requiring accurate model of dental-scan datasets with efficiency in computation time. The most important thing in dental scanning system is accuracy of the dental prosthesis. Previous approaches in intraoral scanning uses a Z-buffer ICP algorithm for fast registration, but it is relatively not accurate and it may cause cumulative errors. This paper proposes additional Alignment using the rough result comes after intraoral scanning alignment. It requires that Each Depth Image of the total set shares some overlap with at least one other Depth image. This research implements the automatically additional alignment system that aligns all depth images into Completed model by computing a network of pairwise registrations. The order of the each individual transformation is derived from a global network and AABB box overlap detection methods.
