The flow inside an axial turbomachinery must be unsteady. Rotor-stator interaction by two blade rows influences performance, the generation of noise and vibration. So, it will be necessary to study the rotor-stator interaction for the design of an axial fan in which the axial gap between two blade rows is small. In this study, rotor-stator interaction is investigated by experimental methods. The research fan has one stage which consists of 24 rotor blades and 22 stator blades. Three-dimensional velocities measured using $45^{\circ}$ slanted hot wire probe and total pressure is measured using Kiel total pressure probe between rotor and stator with the axial 25%, 55%, 145% of chord length,. This study describes the influence of rotor-stator gap on the flow pattern, performance and loss. The efficiency curve show that the change of the rotor-stator gap make difference in the efficiency. And, the 3-dimensional velocity distribution show that the potential interaction between the rotor and the stator have a great effect on the flow field downstream of rotor, where there are wake flow. various vortices in hub region and leakage vortex in casing region etc.

This study using the active vibration control technique attempts to alleviate numerically the airframe vibration of a UH-60A helicopter. The AVCS(Active Vibration Control System) is applied to reduce the 4/rev vibration responses at the specified locations of the UH-60A airframe. The 4/rev hub vibratory loads of the UH-60A rotor is predicted using the nonlinear flexible dynamics analysis code, DYMORE II. Various tools such as NDARC, MSC.NASTRAN, and MATLAB Simulink are used for the AVCS simulation with five CRFGs and seven accelerometers. At a flight speed of 158knots, the predicted 4/rev hub vibratory loads of UH-60A rotor excite the airframe, and then the 4/rev vibration responses at the specified airframe positions such as the pilot seat, rotor-fuselage joint, mid-cabin, and aft-cabin are calculated without and with AVCS. The 4/rev vibration responses at all the locations and directions are reduced by from 25.14 to 96.05% when AVCS is used, as compared to the baseline results without AVCS.

This paper conducts a vibratory loads reduction analysis of an Advanced Active Trailing-edge Flap (AATF) blade utilizing single crystal piezoelectric actuators. For an AATF blade, a new L-L piezostack actuator using single crystal PMN-PT materials is designed. The AATF blade is designed to have similar characteristics to the Advanced Active Twist Rotor (AATR) blade. The active trailingedge flap is assumed to be 20% of the blade span and 15% of the chord, located at 75% of the blade radius. In order to conduct the vibratory loads reduction analysis of the AATF blade in forward flight, DYMORE, a multi-body dynamics analysis code, is used. The simulation result shows that the hub vibratory loads may be reduced by approximately 89% even with a much lower input-voltage when comparing with the other active rotor systems.

In this study, computational structural vibration analyses of a smart unmanned aerial vehicle (SUAV) with tilt-rotors due to dynamic hub loads have been conducted considering detailed supporting structures of installed equipments. Three-dimensional dynamic finite element model has been constructed for different fuel conditions and tilting angles corresponding to helicopter, transition and airplane flight modes. Practical computational procedure for modal transient response analysis is successfully established. Also, dynamic loads generated by rotating blades and wakes in the transient and forward flight conditions are calculated by unsteady computational fluid dynamics technique with sliding mesh concept. As the results of present study, transient structural displacements and accelerations of the vibration sensitive equipments are presented in detail. In addition, vibration characteristics of structures and installed equipments of which safe operation is normally limited by the vibration environment specifications are physically investigated for different flight conditions.
The rotor blade is a key component that generates the lift, thrust, and control forces required for helicopter flight by the torque transmitted through the hub and the blade pitch angle control, and should be designed to factor vibration characteristics so that there is no risk of resonance with structural safety. In this study, the structural design of the main rotor blade for MPUH(Multi-Purpose Unmanned Helicopter) was conducted and the sectional stiffness measurement of the fabricated blade was performed. The evaluation of the vibration characteristics of the main rotor system was then conducted factoring the measured stiffness distribution. The interior of the rotor blade comprised of the skin, spar, and torsion box, and carbon and glass fiber composites were applied. The Ksec2D program was applied to predict the stiffness of blade, and the results were compared to the measured data. CAMRADII, a comprehensive rotorcraft analysis program, was applied to investigate the natural frequency trends and resonance risks due to the rotor rotation.

This paper studies the simulations of active airframe vibration controls for the Sikorsky X2 helicopter with a lift-offset coaxial rotor. The 4P hub vibratory loads of the X2TD rotor are obtained from the previous work using a rotorcraft comprehensive analysis code, CAMRAD II. The finite element analysis software, MSC.NASTRAN, is used to model the structural dynamics of the X2TD airframe and to analyze the 4P vibration responses of the airframe. A simulation study using Active Vibration Control System(AVCS) with Fx-LMS algorithm to reduce the airframe vibrations is conducted. The present AVCS is modeled using MATLAB Simulink. When AVCS is applied to the X2TD airframe at 250 knots, the 4P longitudinal and vertical vibration responses at the specified airframe positions, such as the pilot seat, co-pilot seat, engine deck, and prop gearbox, are reduced by 30.65 ~ 94.12 %.

The substantial loss behind axial flow rotor was generated by wake, various vortices in the hub region and the leakage vortex in the tip region. Particularly, the leakage vortex formed near blade tip was one of the main causes of the reduction of performance, the generation of noise and the aerodynamic vibration in rotor downstream. In this study, the three-dimensional flowfields in an axial flow rotor for various tip clearances were calculated, and the numerical results were compared with the experimental ones. The numerical technique was based on SIMPLE algorithm using standard k-.epsilon. model (WFM). Through calculations, the effects of the tip clearance on the overall performance of rotor and the loss distributions, and the increase in the displacement, momentum, and blade-force-deficit thickness of the casing wall boundary layer were investigated. The mass-averaged flow variables behind rotor agreed well with the experimental results. The presence of the tip leakage vortex behind rotor was described well. Although the loci of leakage vortex by calculation showed some differences compared with the experimental results, its behavior for various tip clearances was clarified by examining the loci of vortex center.

This paper presents a design optimization of a new Advanced Active Blade Twist (AATR-II) blade incorporating single crystal Macro Fiber Composites (MFC) and conducts vibratory loads reduction analysis using an obtained optimal blade configuration. Due to the high actuation performance of the single crystal MFC, the AATR blade may reduce the helicopter vibration more efficiently even with a lower input-voltage as compared with the previous ATR blades. The design optimization provides the optimal cross-sectional configuration to maximize the tip twist actuation when a certain input-voltage is given. In order to maintain the properties of the original ATR blade, various constraints and bounds are considered for the design variables selected. After the design optimization is completed successfully, vibratory load reduction analysis of the optimized AATR-II blade in forward flight condition is conducted. The numerical result shows that the hub vibratory loads are reduced significantly although 20% input-voltage of the original ATR blade is used.

Substantial losses behind axial flow rotor are generated by the wake, various vortices in the hub region and the tip leakage vortex in the tip region. Particularly, the leakage vortex formed near blade tip is one of the main causes of the reduction of performance, generation of noise and aerodynamic vibration in downstream. In this study, the three-dimensional flow fields in an axial flow rotor were calculated with varying tip clearance under various flow rates, and the numerical results were compared with experimental ones. The numerical technique was based on SIMPLE algorithm using standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model(WFM) and Launder & Sharma's Low Reynolds Number $k-{\varepsilon}$ model(LRN). Through calculations, the effects of tip clearance and attack angle on the 3-dimensional flow fileds behind a rotor and leakage flow/vortex were investigated. The presence of tip leakage vortex, loci of vortex center and its behavior behind the rotor for various tip clearances and attack angles was described well by calculation.
