This paper presents a sensorless direct torque control (DTC) combined with sliding mode approach (SM) and space vector modulation (SVM) to achieve mainly a high performance and reduce torque and flux ripples of a parallel-connected two five-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) drive system. In order to increase the proposed drive robustness and decrease its complexity and cost, the rotor speeds, rotor positions, fluxes as well as torques are estimated by using a sliding mode observer (SMO) scheme. The effectiveness of the proposed sliding mode observer in conjunction with the sliding mode control based DTC is confirmed through the application of different load torques for wide speed range operation. Comparison between sliding mode control and proportional integral (PI) control based DTC of the proposed two-motor drive is provided. The obtained speeds, torques and fluxes responses follow their references; even in low and reverse speed operations, load torques changes, and machines parameters variations. Simulation results confirm also that, the ripples of the torques and fluxes are reduced more than 3.33% and 16.66 %, respectively, and the speed overshoots and speed drops are reduced about 99.85% and 92.24%, respectively.
In this paper, a vector control method for a AC-Excited BLSM(Brushless Synchronous Motor) is proposed. The BLSM has a feature that separate exciter is not needed for excitation. The proposed method is described in two parts as follow, one is the design of drive and the other is a modeling for its implementation. Rotor flux is estimated using indirect sensing method based on voltage equation in the synchronously rotation reference frame. And rotor position is calculated from rotor angular velocity and stator current. Through computer simulation results of this proposed system, it is shown that the BLSM drive has a ability of precision torque control from the static and dynamic performance.
In this paper, In the whole industry, there is a tendency to replace brushless motors with brushless motors because of the high rate of failure in DC motors with brushes. Accordingly, many methods for driving a brushless motor have been developed and studied. In order to drive the brushless motor, it is essential to know the information about the rotor position of the motor. However, it is not possible to use a position sensor for rotor disconnection due to the structure of an electric compressor brushless DC motor. In this paper, we investigate the rotor position of the motor by using the counter electromotive force included in the voltage of the terminal made by Y connection by using the resistance of each phase without using Hall sensor or encoder generally used to detect the rotor position. A sensorless drive system for a square wave brushless direct current (DC) motor is proposed. To do this, we propose a method to detect the rotor position from the analyzed terminal voltage waveform by performing terminal voltage analysis of each phase for 3-phase, 2-exciton unipolar PWM.
This paper describes a novel sensorless excitation position detecting method of Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) drive. A suitable excitation pattern of each phases is determined by comparison of detecting current without an inductance estimation. The principle of the rotor position estimation is based on the detection of phase current according to rotor position. This sensorless method is very simple and gives efficient control of drive system. The suggested method is verified by experiments.
Switched reluctance motor(SRM) has the advantages of simple structure, low rotor inertia and high efficiency. However, position sensor is essential in SRM in order to synchronize the phase excitation to the rotor position. The position sensors increase the cost of drive system and tend to reduce system reliability. This paper investigates the speed control of sensorless SRM in which the phase current and change rate are utilized in position decision, and the period of dwell angle is variable by compensating the rotor angle. The proposed system consists of position decision, phase locked loop controller, switching angle controller and inverter. The performances in the proposed system are verified through experiments.
In this paper, an electromechanical integrated harmonic piezodrive system is proposed. The operating principle of the drive system is introduced. The equation of the relationship between the displacements of the flexible ring and the rotating angle of the rotor is deduced. Using the equation, the displacements of the flexible ring for the drive system and their changes along with the system parameters are investigated. The results show that the displacements of the flexible ring changes periodically along with the rotation of the vibrator; there are abrupt changes in the displacements of the flexible ring at some points where there are abrupt changes in the number of the mesh teeth pair; the length of the flexible ring, the excitation voltage, and the speed ratio have obvious effects on the displacements of the flexible ring. The results are useful for the design of the drive system. ;
A rotordynamic analysis is performed with a motor-bull gear rotor system supported on two partial bearings, which is intended to drive a high-speed turbo-chiller compressor impeller shaft through its built-in pinion gear. The motor-bull gear rotor system has a rated speed of 3,600 rpm, and is modeled utilizing the finite element method for analysis. As loadings on the bearings due to the gear action are significant in the system considered, each resultant bearing load is calculated statically by considering the generalized forces of the gear action as well as the rotor itself. The two support partial bearings are designed to take their varying loads along with their varying load angles, and they are also analyzed to give their rotordynamic coefficients. Then, a complex rotordynamic analysis of the motor-bull gear rotor-bearing system is carried out to evaluate its whirl natural frequencies and mode shapes and unbalance responses under various loading conditions. Results show that the bearings and entire rotor system are well designed regradless of operating conditions, i.e., loads and operating speeds.
The paper shows a result for development of BLDC motor drive by using a resolver as position detection sensor. The developed drive use a method detecting rotor position based on HSI interrupt function of microprocessor without a specialized counting circuit. The algorithm generating three-phase PWM wave to change switching voltage and current is realized based on single chip microprocessor. The PWM generating part and position counting circuit are realized by software technique without usage of conventional analogue circuit or object-oriented chips. So the drive system become compact. The effectiveness of the developed drive is verified by experimented results of speed response for step reference input.
The time optimal position control scheme can be repeatedly taken from the initial state of a dynamic system to a desired one as fast as possible at the industrial drives. In this case, the machine parameters will vary due to temperature, frequency, and saturation effects. In particular, the rotor resistance value changes dramatically with temperature and frequency. These changes affect the command values of the stator current components and slip speed. There is a mismatch between the commanded variables and actual variables of the induction motor drive, and this situation leads to decoupling of the vector controller from the plant, i.e the induction motor. Consequences of such decoupling include the initiation of oscillations of the rotor flux and unsuitable switching of electromagnetic torque of the induction motor servo drive. Therefore, a rotor resistance parameter compensating method for the induction motor is described.
The switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive system provides a good adjustable speed characteristics. But driving of SRM is nonlinear changed according to rotor position angle and phase current because of saturation in magnetic circuit, and it is difficult to drive the high efficiency. This paper proposes find point of high efficiency in variable load that are used to control switch-on/off angles and input voltage.
