The shape optimization of blade sweep in a transonic axial compressor rotor of NASA Rotor 37 has been performed using response surface method and the three-dimensional Wavier-Stokes analysis. Two shape variables of the rotor blade, which are used to define the rotor sweep, are introduced to increase the adiabatic efficiency of the compressor. Throughout the optimization, optimal shape having a backward sweep is obtained. Adiabatic efficiency, which is the objective function of the present optimization, is successfully increased. Separation line due to the interference between a shock and surface boundary layer on the blade suction surface is moved downstream for the optimized blade compared to the reference one. The increase in adiabatic efficiency for the optimized blade is caused by suppression of the separation due to a shock on the blade suction surface.
The optimization of a blade sweep for a transonic axial compressor rotor (NASA rotor 37) has been performed using a response surface method and a Reynolds-averaged Wavier-Stokes (RANS) flow simulation. Two shape variables of the rotor blade, which are used to define a blade sweep, are introduced to increase an adiabatic efficiency. Data points for response evaluations have been selected by D-optimal design, and linear programming method has been used for an optimization on a response surface. The result shows that the adiabatic efficiency is increased to about 1 percent compared to that of the reference shape of the rotor blade. Relatively high increasement of the adiabatic efficiency is obtained between 20 and 60 percent span. In the present study, backward swept blade is more effective to increase the adiabatic efficiency In the axial compressor rotor.

Design optimization of a transonic compressor rotor (NASA rotor 37) using response surface method and three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis has been carried out in this work. Baldwin-Lomax turbulence model was used in the flow analysis. Three design variables were selected to optimize the stacking line of the blade. Data points for response evaluations were selected by D-optimal design, and linear programming method was used for the optimization on the response surface. As a main result of the optimization, adiabatic efficiency was successfully improved. It is also found that the design process provides reliable design of a turbomachinery blade with reasonable computing time.

The objective of this paper is to analyze the structure of the wind power tree using a helical type wind turbine. The blades of a helical rotor is designed with a composite material. The structural analyses of a helical rotor have been implemented by finite element method. The structural analyses of the wind power tree which support four helical rotor, have been performed under a wind load, a rotational velocity of a rotor, and dead weight.
This study was carried out to improve the performance of a vertical-axis micro wind turbine. It is unique in that it has two identical generators on both sides of the main shaft. Also it has a C shape frame to fix the generators and the main shaft firmly and to provide a connection to a tower. Performance analysis of the wind turbine rotor was performed using Qblade, which is an analysis program for vertical axis wind turbines and freeware. Based on the analysis results, the blade airfoil, the chord length, and the rotor size were modified to improve the performance of the rotor. The modification was found to increase the performance of the wind turbine and to reach the targeted rated power.

To numerically simulate aerodynamics of rotor-airframe interaction in a rigorous manner, we need to solve the Navier-Stokes system for a rotor-airframe combination in a single computational domain. This imposes a computational burden since rotating blades and a stationary body have to be simultaneously dealt with. An efficient alternative is a momentum source method in which the action of rotor is approximated as momentum source in a stationary mesh system built around the airframe. This makes the simulation much easier. The magnitude of the momentum source is usually evaluated by the blade element theory, which often results in a poor accuracy. In the present work, we evaluate the momentum source from the simulation data by using the Navier-Stokes equations only for a rotor system. Using this data, we simulated the time-averaged steady rotor-airfame interaction and developed the unsteady rotor-airframe interaction. Computations were carried out for the simplified rotor-airframe model (the Georgia Tech configuration) and the results were compared with experimental data. The results were in good agreement with experimental data, suggesting that the present approach is a usefull method for rotor-airframe interaction analysis.
The noise sources of a tip-jet driven rotor can be separated by rotor blade noise and jet noise. The rotor blade noise consists of thickness noise, loading noise, nonlinear quadrupole noise, and jet noise is divided into nozzle momentum noise and jet radiation noise. The flow analysis for the prediction of rotor blade noise is performed by CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis, and the noise source of the rotor blade noise is identified by simultaneously applying the permeable and impermeable surface based FW-H (Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings) acoustic analogy. The nozzle momentum noise is obtained by permeable surface FW-H, and jet radiation noise is predicted by using empirical method for the fixed-wing jet. Both of jet noises use nozzle exit condition for noise analysis. The accuracy of the technique is verified based on the noise measurements of the tip-jet driven rotor, and the unique noise characteristics of the tip-jet driven rotor is confirmed by spectrum analysis.
This paper presents the power compensation by wound-rotor induction motor with a Fly-wheel. In the wound-rotor induction motor the primary power is controlled by AC excitation which used the secondary power conversion. Based on theory this paper describes the dynamic response analysis of the would-rotor induction motor with Fly-wheel. Simulation and experimental results are performed to verify the proposed control method
