  • The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of the length of tack weldment on the rotational distortion at the one side SA butt weldment using experiment. The maximum rotational distortion at the end of the SA weldment decrease with an increase in the length of tack weld length, while the maximum rate of the distortion increases. This result indicates that the increase of the length of the tack weldment at the one-side SA butt weldment does not prevent the hot cracks.

  • This paper proposes a new track-following control method using disturbance observer with the freedom of gain and frequency adaptation in optical disk drive system. Recent ODDs use smaller track pits, higher rotation speed and broader rotational speed variations to increase the data capacity and data transfer rate. This cause the degradation of track-following performance by increasing the disturbance of the rotary system. In this paper, we discussed on a DOB structure that efficiently attenuate the disturbance without effecting the overall feedback loop characteristics on CLV type ODD which uses a higher and broader range of rotational speed. DOB structure uses two band pass filter. We analyzed the track-following performance sensitivity on rotational frequency variance and gain changes. This analysis is done on a computer simulation environment and actual ODD product.

  • The heat generation of the angular contact and the deep groove ball bearing is studied experimentally and numerically. The temperature variation of the inner and outer races and the temperature increase distribution are measured for the shaft rotational speeds, preloads, viscosities of the lubricant and lubrication methods. The measured temperature distributions are used as the input data of the numerical simulation to estimate the heat generation rate at the bearing. The temperatures of the inner and outer race increase more rapidly and approach faster to their steady values as the rotational speed increases. The optimal viscosity of the oil to minimize the heat generation is 8~10 cSt at 4$0^{\circ}C$ when the oil-air lubrication method is adopted. The heat generation of the bearing increases with the rotational speed and depends more on the lubrication method than on the preload variation.

  • In this paper, Timoshenko and Euler-Bernoulli beam theories(EB-beam) are used, and Fast Fourier Transformation(FFT) analysis is then employed to extract their natural frequencies using both analytical approach and Co-rotational plane beam(CR-beam) EDISON program. EB-beam is used to analyze a spring-mass system with a single degree of freedom. Sinusoidal force with various frequencies and constant magnitude are applied to tip of each beam. After the oscillatory tip response is observed in EB-beam, it decreases and finally converges to the so-called 'steady-state.' The decreasing rate of the tip deflection with respect to time is reduced when the forcing frequency is increased. Although the tip deflection is found to be independent of the excitation frequency, it turns out that time to reach the steady state response is dependent on the forcing frequency.

  • In recent years, as the demands of VBNS(Very high speed Backbone Network Service) and VDSL(Very high-data rate Digital Subscriber Line) increase, the development of kernel parts of optical communication such as PLC(Planar Light Circuit), Coupler, WDM elements increase. The alignment and the attachment technology are very important to fabricate the optical elements for communication. In this paper, the mechanism of rotational stage are studied. with the three different method and the results of them are applied to the design of the system. The performance test of resolution and travel is performed.

  • The cutting characteristics of hardened steel(AISI 52100) by PCBN tools is investigated with respect to cutting force, workpiece surface roughness and tool flank wear by the vision system. Hard Owning is carried out with various cutting conditions; spindle rotational speed, depth of cut and feed rate. Backpropagation neural networks(BPNs) are used for detection of tool wear. The input vectors of neural network comprise of spindle rotational speed, feed rates, vision flank wear, and thrust force signals. The output is the tool wear state which is either usable or failure. The detection of the abnormal states using BPNs achieves $96.8\%$ reliability even when the spindle rotational speed and feedrate are changed.

  • In high-density hard disk drives, the slider should be made to fly close to the magnetic recording disk to generate better signal resolution and at an increasingly high velocity to achieve better data rate. The slider disk interaction in CSS (contact-start-stop) mode is an important source of particle generation. Contamination particles in the hard disk drive can cause serious problems including slider crash and thermal asperities. We investigated the number and the sizes of particles generated in the hard disk drive, operating at increasing disk rotational speeds, in the CSS mode. CNC (condensation nucleus counter) and PSS (particle size selector) were used for this investigation. In addition, we examined the particle components by using SEM (scanning electron microscopes), AES (auger electron spectroscopy), and TOF-SIMS (time of flight-secondary ions mass spectrometry). The increasing disk rotational speed directly affected the particle generation by slider disk interaction. The number of particles that were generated increased with the disk rotational speed. The particle generation rate increased rapidly at motor speeds above 8000 rpm. This increase may be due to the increased slider disk interaction. Particle sizes ranged from 14 to 200 nm. The particles generated by slider disk interaction came from the lubricant on the disk, coating layer of the disk, and also slider surface.

  • The effects of various environmental factors such as pH (5, 6, 7, 8 and 9), temperature (30, 37 and $40^{\circ}C$) and rotational speed (150, 200 and 250 rpm) on the growth and the hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg) production of Escherichia coli W3110IQ were examined in the present Study. The highest growth rate is achieved at pH 7, $37^{\circ}C$ and at a rotational Speed of 250 rpm which is 0.927 $h^{-1}$. The effect of pH on cell growth is more substantial compared to other parameters; it recorded a $123\%$ different between the highest growth rate (0.927 $h^{-1}$) at pH 7 and lowest growth at pH 5. The highest protein yield is achieved at pH 9, rotational speed of 250 rpm and $40^{\circ}C$. The yield of protein at pH 7 is $154\%$ higher compared to the lowest yield achieved at pH 5. There is about $28\%$ different of the protein yield for the E. coli cultivated at 250 rpm compared to that at 150 rpm which has the lowest HBcAg yield. The yield of protein at $40^{\circ}C$ is $38\%$ higher compared to the lowest yield achieved at $30^{\circ}C$.

  • Intramolecular excimer formation of 1,3-di(1-pyrenyl) propane(Py-3-Py) and fluorescence polarization of 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) were used to evaluate the effect of ethanol on the rate and range of lateral and rotational mobilities of bulk bilayer structures of synaptosomal plasma membrane vesicles (SPMVs) from the bovine cerebral cortex. Ethanol increased the excimer to monomer fluorescence intensity ratio (I'/I) of Py-3-Py in the SPMVs. Selective quenching of both DPH and Py-3-Py by trinitrophenyl groups was used to examine the range of transbilayer asymmetric rotational mobility and the rate and range of transbilayer asymmetric lateral mobility of SPMVs. Ethanol increased the rotational and lateral mobility of the outer monolayer more than of the inner one. Thus ethanol has a selective fluidizing effect within the transbilayer domains of the SPMVs. Radiationless energy transfer from the tryptophans of membrane proteins to Py-3-Py was used to examine both the effect of ethanol on annular lipid fluidity and protein distribution in the SPMVs. Ethanol increased annular lipid fluidity and also caused membrane proteins to cluster. These effects on neuronal membranes may be responsible for some, though not all, of the general anesthetic actions of ethanol.
