The computationally simple quantum mechanical method (VSCF-DWB-IOS) has been applied to studying the Ar-$CO_2$ vibrational predissociation phenomenon. The new methodology utilizes the vibrational self-consistent field method to determine the vibrational structure of the van der Waals complex, the distorted-wave Born approximation for dissociating process, and the infinite-order sudden approximation for the continuum dissociating product of $CO_2$. The dissociation due to the coupling of the symmetric stretching vibrational motion of $CO_2$ with the motion of the Ar van der Waals mode has been extensively investigated. The lifetimes of transient excited vibrational states, linewidths of absorption peak, and the rotational state distributions of the product, $CO_2$ have been computed. It has been found that the lifetime of the Ar-$CO_2$ in excited vibrational state is very long compared with that of triatomic van der Waals complexes and the product $CO_2$ carries a major portion of dissociation energy as a rotational energy.
In this paper a simple mathematical model is presented for estimating the natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes of a tall building with outrigger-belt truss system. For this purposes an equivalent continuum system is analyzed in which a tall building structure is replaced by an idealized cantilever continuum beam representing the structural characteristics. The equivalent system is comprised of a cantilever shear beam in parallel to a cantilever flexural beam that is constrained by a rotational spring at outrigger-belt truss location. The mathematical modeling and the derivation of the equation of motion are given for the cantilevers with identically paralleled and rotational spring. The equation of motion and the associated boundary conditions are analytically obtained by using Hamilton's variational principle. After obtaining non-trivial solution of the eigensystem, the resulting is used to determine the natural frequencies and associated mode shapes of free vibration analysis. A numerical example for a 40 story tall building has been solved with proposed method and finite element method. The results of the proposed mathematical model have good adaptation with those obtained from finite element analysis. Proposed model is practically suitable for quick evaluations during the preliminary design stages.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG) can produce power from ambient mechanical sources and have strong points of high output performance, light weight, low cost, and easy manufacturing process. It is expected that TENG can be utilized in the fields of wireless electronics and self-powered devices in the world which pays attention to healthcare and the IoT. In this work, we focus on scavenging ambient rotational energy by using a durably designed TENG. In previous studies regarding harvesting rotation mode energy, the devices were based on sliding mechanism and durability was not considered as a major issue. However friction by rotation causes reliability problems due to wear and tear. Therefore, in this study, we convert rotary motion to linear motion utilizing a cam by which we can then utilize contact-mode TENG and improve device reliability. In order to increase output performance, bumper springs were used below the TENG and the optimum value for the bumper spring constant was analyzed theoretically. Furthermore, the inserting a soft substrate was proposed and its effect on high output was determined to be due to an increase in the contact area. By increasing the number of cam noses, the output frequency was shown to increase linearly. For the purpose of maximum power transfer, the input impedance of the device was determined. Finally, to demonstrate the use of the C-TENG as a direct power source, it was installed on a commercial bicycle wheel and connected to 180 LEDs. In conclusion we present a rotational motion TENG energy scavenger system designed for enhanced durability and optimized output by appropriate choice of spring constants and substrate.

This paper presents finite element analyses, experimental measurements and finite element model updating of an arch type steel laboratory bridge model using semi-rigid connections. The laboratory bridge model is a single span and fixed base structure with a length of 6.1 m and width of 1.1m. The height of the bridge column is 0.85 m and the maximum arch height is 0.95 m. Firstly, a finite element model of the bridge is created in SAP2000 program and analytical dynamic characteristics such as natural frequencies and mode shapes are determined. Then, experimental measurements using ambient vibration tests are performed and dynamic characteristics (natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios) are obtained. Ambient vibration tests are performed under natural excitations such as wind and small impact effects. The Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition method in the frequency domain and the Stochastic Subspace Identification method in the time domain are used to extract the dynamic characteristics. Then the finite element model of the bridge is updated using linear elastic rotational springs in the supports and structural element connections to minimize the differences between analytically and experimentally estimated dynamic characteristics. At the end of the study, maximum differences in the natural frequencies are reduced on average from 47% to 2.6%. It is seen that there is a good agreement between analytical and experimental results after finite element model updating. Also, connection percentages of the all structural elements to joints are determined depending on the rotational spring stiffness.

One of the fascinating prospects is the possibility of new hydrodynamics technology on micro-scale system since oscillations of micro-droplets are of practical and scientific importance. It has been widely conceived that the lowest oscillation mode of a pendant droplet is the longitudinal vibration, i.e. periodic elongation and contraction along the longitudinal direction. Nonlinear and forced oscillations of supported viscous droplet were focused in the present study. The droplet has a free contact line with solid plate and inviscid fluid. Natural frequencies of a pendant droplet have been investigated experimentally by imposing the acoustic wave while the frequency is being increased at a fixed amplitude. It is found that a pendant droplet shows the resonant behaviors at each mode similar to the theoretical analysis. The rotation of the droplet about the longitudinal axis is the oscillation mode of the lowest resonance frequency. This rotational mode can be invoked by periodic acoustic forcing and is analogous to the pendulum rotation. It is also found that the natural frequency of a pendant droplet is independent of the drop density and surface tension but inversely proportional to the square root of the droplet size.
The present work addresses the rotational capacity of steel-concrete composite beams, which is a key issue for the seismic design of composite frames. Several experimental tests from the literature are summarised, and the effects of various parameters on the available plastic rotation are discussed. Furthermore, a number of remarks are made regarding the need for supplementary experimental results. The authors carried out experimental tests on four composite beams in which the type, width and connection degree of the slab were varied. During the tests, the deflection and strains in the steel profiles and bars were measured and recorded, wherein the observed trends in the measured parameters indicated that the failure mode of the beam was influenced by global and local buckling. A comparison of the experimental results to the theoretical ultimate strengths and moment-curvature relationships confirms that buckling phenomena occurred after section yielding, even if a consistent plastic rotation developed. This rotational capacity is well evaluated by a formulation that is available in the literature.
Vibrational motions of the compaction table were investigated to select the optimal operation conditions of sand filling and compaction for the EPC process. Their modes were measured at the nine points of the table with changing the relative rotation angles between the two eccentric mass vibrators which were attached parallel beneath the table. Well-defined vibration modes were measured at the center of the table but those of left and right sides of the table were distorted regardless of rotational angle differences. The distortion of vibration modes at both sides of the table were caused by the moment generated by offset positions of two eccentric masses. It was found that the uniform vibration modes would be gathered by controlling the relative distances between the rotating axis and the center of gravity in the compaction system at the various conditions of vibration modes and rotational angle differences.
A modified procedure is presented for assessing the seismic response of elastic non-proportionate multistory buildings. This procedure retains the simplicity of the methodology presented by the author in earlier papers, but it presents higher accuracy in buildings composed by very dissimilar types of bents. As a result, not only frequencies and peak values of base resultant forces are determined with higher accuracy, but also the location of the first mode center of rigidity (m1-CR). The closeness of m1-CR with the axis passing through the centers of floor masses (mass axis) implies a reduced rotational response and it is demonstrated that in elastic systemsa practically translational response is obtained when this point lies on the mass axis.Besides, when common types of buildings are detailed as planar structures under a code load, this response is maintained in the inelastic phase of their response as a result of the almost concurrent yielding of all the resisting bents. This property of m1-CR can be used by the practicing engineer as a guideline to form a structural configuration which will sustain minimum rotational response, simply by allocating the resisting elements in such a way that this point lies close to the mass axis. Inelastic multistory building structures, detailed as above, may be regarded as torsionally balanced multistory systems and this is demonstrated in eight story buildings, composed by dissimilar bents, under the ground motions of Kobe 1995 (component KJM000) and Friuli 1976 (component Tolmezzo E-W).
The Lubrication Mode of line contacts between the vane and camring in an oil hydraulic vane pump with intravanes has been investigated. Variations of the radial acting force of a vane were calculated from previously measured results of dynamic internal pressure in four chambers surrounding a vane, and variations of the lubrication mode were estimated in both the rotational speed range from 500 to 1500 rpm and in the delivery pressure range from 1 to14 Mpa. The results indicate the variations of the radial acting force. It is found that the regimes of lubrication in the vane tip contacts cover rigid-isoviscous to rigid-variable viscosities.

In this paper, a new technique which models the joints characteristics through reduction of DOFs of structures with joints using component mode synthesis (CMS) method is proposed. Bolt joints are modeled by mass-spring systems. Also generalized mass and stiffness matrices for this models are introduced. Because bolt joints have influence on eigenvalues of structures, exact eigenvalues from modal test are used. The results show that the behaviors of structures with bolt joints depend to a large extent on the translational DOFs and not on rotational DOFs of mass and stiffness matrices of bolts. Furthermore it is confirmed that lumped mass-spring systems as models of bolt joints are effective models considering the facts that joint characteristics converged to constant values in some iterations and eignevalues from proposed method are in good agreement with ones from modal test.
