  • In this paper, we present some results on performance analysis for flap actuation system of aircraft. For this, by utilizing MATLAB/Simulink solution, which is widely used physical model-based design tool, we particularly construct the architecture of the analysis model consisting of the main three phases: 1)commanding and outer-controlling the flap angle through flight control computer; 2)generating hydraulic/mechanical power through control module and power drive unit; 3)transmitting torque and actuating the flap through torque tube and rotary geared actuators. For mimicking the motion of the actual flap, we apply each mechanical component, which is already being used in actual aircraft, to our performance analysis model so that it guarantees the congruency of the simulation results. That is, we reflect the actual specifications of flap hardware and software as parameters of the model. Finally, simulation results are presented to illustrate the model.

  • 5-axis NC machining has a good advantage of the accessibility of tool motion by adding two rotary axes. It offers numerous advantages such as expanding machining fields in parts of turbo machineries like impeller, propeller, turbine blade and rotor, reasonable tool employment and great reduction of the set-up process. However, as adding two rotary axes, it is difficult to choose suitable machining conditions in terms of tool path, tool posture, feedrate control at a tool tip and post-processing. Therefore in this paper, it is proposed to decide suitable machining condition through an experimental method such as adopting various tool paths, tool postures, and feedrate types. Machining experiment on AL7075 for impeller is performed to define suitable machining condition, and measurement of surface roughness on machined surfaces depended on each machining condition is performed. By defining suitable machining condition, we should have conclusion as improving the surface quality in the aspect of surface roughness and machined shape of surface.

  • Linear cyclic systems (LCS's) are a class of systems whose dynamic behavior changes periodically. Such a cyclic behavior is ubiquitous in systems with fundamentally repetitive motion. Yet, the knowledge of the noise and vibration transmission paths in LCS's is quite limited due to the time-varying nature of their dynamics. The first part of this two-part paper derives a generic expression that describes how the noise and/or vibration are transmitted between two (or multiple) points in the LCS's. In Part II, experimental validation of the theoretical development of Part I is provided. The noise and vibration transmission paths of the scroll and rotary compressors (two typical LCS's) are examined to show that the LCS's indeed generate a series of amplitude modulated input signals at the output, where the carrier frequencies are harmonic multiples of the LCS' fundamental frequency. The criterion proposed in Part I to determine how well a given LCS can be approximated as a linear time-invariant systems (LTIS) is applied to the noise and vibration transmission paths of the two compressors. Furthermore, the implications of the experimental validations/applications are discussed in order to assess the applicability of the noise/vibration source and transmission path identification techniques based on the assumption that the system under consideration is linear and time-invariant.

  • A can type high-speed transplanting mechanism was developed. The mechanism consists of a cam and an epicycle gear train with one sun gear in the middle and four planet gears in a row but symmetric with respect to the sun gear. Two planting knives are pivoted on the two outer gears. When sun gear rotates with a constant velocity the planting knife rotates also with a constant velocity. This constant motion of the transplanting knife is accelerated partially by a cam fixed in the gear housing so that the locus of the planting knife becomes similar to that generated by a crank-type transplanting mechanism. This cam-type transplanting mechanism can solve the problems associated with the rotary-type transplanting mechanisms. The mechanism was designed with an aid of computer simulation and proved applicable to high speed transplanters by its mock-up model. The design process of the mechanism was presented and dynamic analysis was also carried out to show the advantages of the mechanism over the rotary type high-speed planting mechanism.

  • Dynamic Load/unload (L/UL) mechanism is an alternative to the contact start stop (CSS) technology which eliminates stiction and wear failure modes associated with CSS. Other benefits of L/UL include increased areal density due to smooth disk surfaces, thinner overcoats, and lower head flying height Improved shock resistance due to elimination of head slap, and reduced power consumption. Inertia latch mechanism becomes important for mobile disk drives because of non operating shock performance. Various types of latch designs have been introduced in hard disk drives to limit a rotary actuator from sudden uncontrolled motion. In this paper, a single spring inertia latch is introduced for a small form optical disk drive, which uses a rotary actuator for moving an optical pick-up. A new small inertia latch with single spring is designed to ensure both feasible and small size. The shock performance of the new inertia latch is experimentally verified.

  • Recently, energy harvesting technologies are considered as the great alternatives to reduce the dependency on secondary batteries. In this paper, we proposed PCB type energy harvester which can be directly integrated with other electronic components on same board. To form the three dimensional coil structure, two PCBs with patterned metal lines are solder bonded. For magnetic induction, inside of coil structure was filled with magnetic substance and rotary motioned external magnets are applied to near the harvester. The effects of metal wire width on PCB, thickness of magnetic substance, and frequency of rotary motion on energy harvesting performance are analyzed by computer simulation and experiments. Experimental results showed 29.89 ${\mu}W$ of power generation performance at the frequency of 5.2 Hz and it is shown that designed harvester can be effectively applied on vibration environment with very limited frequency.

Therefore in this paper, it is proposed to decide suitable machining condition through an experimental method such as adopting various cutter paths, cutter postures types. Also, in order to increase the efficiency of 5-axis machining, it is necessary to minimize the cutter posture changes and create a continuous cutter path while avoiding interference. This study, by using an MC-space algorithm for interference avoidance and an MB-spline algorithm for continuous control, is intended to create a 5-axis machining cutter path with excellent surface quality and economic feasibility. finally, this study will verify the effectiveness of the suggested method through verification processing.

  • As a new technical approach, wave energy converter by using vertical motion of water in the multiple water chambers were developed to realize actual wave power generation as eco-environmental renewable energy. And practical use of wave energy converter was actually to require the following conditions: (1) setting up of the relevant device and its application to wave power generation in case that severe wave loading is avoided; (2) workability in installation and maintenance operations; (3) high energy conversion potential; and (4) low cost. In this system, neither the wall(s) of the chambers nor the energy conversion device(s) are exposed to the impulsive load due to water wave. Also since this system is profitable when set along the jetty or along a long floating body, installation and maintenance are done without difficulty and the cost is reduced. In this paper, we describe the system which consists of a float, a shaft connected with another shaft, a rack and pinion arrangement, a ratchet mechanism, and rotary type generator(s). Then, we present the dynamics model for evaluating the output electric power, and the results of numerical calculation including the effect of the phase shift of up/down motion of the water in the array of water chambers aligned along the direction of wave propagation.

  • During cleaning and shaping of narrow and curved canals, it is very difficult or nearly impossible to maintain the original canal shape. Procedural accidents such as, ledge, zipping, perforation, and instrument breakage are frequently occurred and even may lead to failure of endodontic therapy. To prevent these kinds of accidents, various instrumentation techniques and materials have been introduced. Recently some nickel titanium (NiTi) files are introduced and it is reported that These NiTi files created rounder preparations with less transportation than conventional instruments in curved canals. This study compared the change of the canal curvature and procedural accidents after instrumentation produced by stainless steel K-flexo file, and NiTi rotary files (Profile 29 and Quantec 2000). Thirty narrow and curved canals (25-45 degree) of extracted human molars were randomly divided into three groups. In group 1, canals were instrumented using a step-back and watch-winding/pull motion with K-flexo files. In group 2, canals were prepared with Profile 29. Group 3, canals were prepared with Quantec 2000 files. Before and after preparation of canals, periapical radiographs were taken and scanned. The change of canal curvature were measured using Photoshop 4.0 program and the incidence of procedural accidents were also evaluated. The results were as follows: 1. All group showed some loss of canal curvature after instrumentation. 2. Average loss of canal curvature was $6.70{\pm}5.31$ degree for group 1, $3.80{\pm}2.57$ degree for group 2, and $5.40{\pm}4.83$ degree for group 3. All group There was significant change in curvature between before and after instrumentation (p<0.05). But there was no statistical difference amoung 3 groups. 3. In group I, there were no procedural accidents, such as ledging, perforation, or instrument fracture. In group 2, two cases of ledge and one case of instrument fracture were produced Goup 3, each one case of ledge, perforation and instrument fracture were occurred. Whthin the limits of above results, It seems that NiTi rotary instrumentation is not All Mighty and if we use uncarefully, it is more dangerous to produce some procedural accidents than conventional hand files. But more studies should be taken to evaluate the exact effects of NiTi rotary instrumentations.

  • The large volume multi-tasking vertical lathe was developed for machining the bearing parts for a wind power generator. Although the machined part is large in size high precision tolerances are required recently. One of the most important components to achieve this mission is the rotating table which holds and supports the part to be machined. The oil hydrostatic bearing is adopted for the thrust bearing and the rolling bearing for the radial bearing. In this article experimental performance evaluation and its analysis results are presented. The rotational accuracy of the table is assessed and the frequency domain analysis for the structural loop is performed. And in order to evaluate the structural characteristic of table the moment load experiment is performed. The rotational error motion is measured as below 10 ${\mu}m$ for the radial and axial direction and 22,800 Nm/arcsec of moment stiffness is achieved for the rotary table.
