The sectors of the Root industry include casting, plastic works, welding, surface treatment, and heat treatment. While the industry is concerned with the processing technologies that are used in most of the manufacturing industries, the sophistication of the corresponding manufacturing information systems is very low. This paper describes a manufacturing information system for the building sector for which the smartphone devices that the workers use in their daily lives are employed, and where the cost of the adaption of the manufacturing system at their factories is minimized. The proposed system consists of the following three parts: UI composer, General Application, and Gateway.
This paper describes the efficient equipment maintenance that can offer the exact time for repair and change of component in root industry. A conventional method offered the fixed time for repair and change of component because the method is based on early guarantee specification of the component. However the operating condition of manufacturing field is often under worse condition than early guarantee condition for high productivity. So, most components can't use until early guarantee time due to the operation of various different condition. Therefore we suggest the useful method for efficient equipment-maintenance by manufacturing-field analysis and feedback database. For this, the classification of root industry and related equipment is performed and then the detail classification of the process and component for equipment maintenance. And the monitoring module is also designed to gather data for feedback process and the environment is basically implemented for aging and reliability test.
This paper aims to develop a prediction model for the product quality of a casting process. Prediction of the product quality utilizes an artificial neural network (ANN) in order to renovate the manufacturing technology of the root industry. Various aspects of the research on the prediction algorithm for the casting process using an ANN have been investigated. First, the key process parameters have been selected by means of a statistics analysis of the process data. Then, the optimal number of the layers and neurons in the ANN structure is established. Next, feed-forward back propagation and the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm are selected to be used for training. Simulation of the predicted product quality shows that the prediction is accurate. Finally, the proposed method shows that use of the ANN can be an effective tool for predicting the results of the casting process.
Objectives: This study analyzes TVOC concentrations in root industry workplaces in order to prevent probable occupational disease among workers. Root industry includes all the infrastructure of manufacturing, such as casting and molding. Methods: Real-time TVOC sensors were deployed in three root industry workplaces. We measured TVOC concentrations with these sensors and analyzed the results using a data-analysis tool developed with Python 3.9. Results: During the study period, the mean of the TVOC concentrations remained in an acceptable range, 0.30, 2.15, and 1.63 ppm across three workplaces. However, TVOC concentrations increased significantly at specific times, with respective maximum values of 4.98, 28.35, and 26.65 ppm for the three workplaces. Moreover, the analysis of hourly TVOC concentrations showed that during working hours or night shifts TVOC concentrations increased significantly to higher than twice the daily mean values. These results were scrutinized through classical decomposition results and autocorrelation indices, where seasonal graphs of the corresponding classical decomposition results showed that TVOC concentrations increased at a specific time. Trend graphs showed that TVOC concentrations vary by day. Conclusions: Deploying a real-time TVOC sensor should be considered to reflect irregularly high TVOC concentrations in workplaces in the root industry. It is expected that the real-time TVOC sensor with the presented data analysis methodology can eradicate probable occupational diseases caused by detrimental gases.
The aim of this study was to investigate the characteristics and antioxidant activities of vinegar made with Etteum bell flower root (0.5%, 1%, 1.5% and 2%) during two-step fermentation. Acetic acid was fermented at $30^{\circ}C$ for 16 days and samples of vinegar were extracted at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16 days. The pH of Etteum bell flower root vinegar did not significantly differ among the samples, but the acidity increased during fermentation. Alcohol content decreased at 16 days of fermentation and less than 1% alcohol was shown in all samples after fermentation. The pure acetic acid yield was 88.85~98.97%, whereby the total phenolic compound content and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activities increased as the ratio of the Etteum bell flower root increased. The sensory scores of vinegar fermented with 1.5% Etteum bell flower root are greater than those of vinegar prepared by other treatments. Therefore, vinegar with 1.5% Etteum bell flower root added is considered to be the most suitable for manufacturing.
This study investigated the quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of Makgeolli (a traditional Korean rice wine) made with Etteum bell flower root (0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2% with steamed rice) during fermentation. The pH values of Makgeolli with Etteum bell flower root powder decreased after 3 days of fermentation and then increased after 5 days of fermentation. Sugar content decreased after 3 days of fermentation. Color evaluation showed the L values of these drinks decreased during fermentation, whereas a and b values both increased. The alcohol content of Makgeolli increased after fermentation, reaching a maximum concentration of 7.90-8.07% by the end of fermentation. Total phenolic compound contents and DPPH radical scavenging activities increased as the ratio of Etteum bell flower root increased. Sensory scores of Makgeolli fermented with 1.5% Etteum bell flower root ware greater than those of Makgeolli prepared by other treatments. Therefore, Makgeolli added with 1.5% Etteum bell flower root added considered to be the most suitable for manufacturing.
As the world wind energy market grows rapidly, the productions of wind power generation equipment have recently increased, but manufacturers are not able meet this requirement. Particularly offshore wind energy industry is one of the most popular renewable energy sectors. To generalize welding processes, the welding automation is considered for steel structure manufacturing in offshore wind energy to get high quality and productivity. Welding technology in construction of the wind towers is depended on progress productivity. In addition, the life of wind tower structures should be considered by taking account of the natural weathering and the load it endures. The root passes are typically deposited using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding(GTAW) with a specialized backing gas shield. Not only the validation consists of welders experienced in determining the welding productivity of the baseline welding procedure, but also the standard testing required by the ASME section IX and API1104 codes, toughness testing was performed on the completed field welds. This paper presents the welding characteristics of the root-pass welding of high tensile steel in manufacturing of offshore wind tower. Based on the result from welding experiments, optimal welding conditions were selected after analyzing correlation between welding parameters(peak current, background current and wire feed rate) and back-bead geometry such as back-bead width(mm) and back-bead height performing root-pass welding experiment under various conditions. Furthermore, a response surface approach has been applied to provide an algorithm to predict an optimal welding quality.

Safety is the first priority in civil aviation, and so the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has introduced and mandated the use of Safety Management Systems (SMS) by airlines, airports, air traffic services, aircraft maintenance organizations, and training organizations. The aircraft manufacturing industry is the last for which ICAO has mandated the implementation of SMS. Since SMS is a somewhat newer approach for most manufacturers in the aviation industry, they hardly believe in the value of implementing SMS. The management of safety risk characteristics that occur during early aircraft development stages and the systematic linkage that the safety risk has to do with an aircraft in service could have a significant influence on the safe operation and life cycle of the aircraft. This paper conducts a case analysis of the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 accident/incident to identify the root causes and safety risk levels, and also verified why aircraft manufacturing industry should begin to adopt SMS in order to prevent aircraft accident.
The objective of manufacturing knowledge sharing platform is to convert the production experience like a worker's know-how into quantitative values, to construct database of the process technologies and to share the technologies systematically via web portal service. In addition, the knowledge sharing platform contains the total production processes of automobile and mobile products such as information of experts, facilities, and cutting-edge R&D outputs. Automobile, telecommunication mobile, and semiconductors account for a large amount of Korea's export industry rate. These industries need production technology which is a result of converting worker's know-how and R&D. Manufacturing knowledge portal aims to enable transforming production experience such as worker's know-how into standardized form for constructing database and sharing technologies systematically. Manufacturing knowledge portal can contribute to small and mid-sized manufacturing companies with further improvements.
