Biocontrol Efficacies of Bacillus Species Against Cylindrocarpon destructans Causing Ginseng Root Rot

  • Two antifungal bacteria were selected from forest soils during the screening of microorganisms antagonistic to Cylindrocarpon destructans, a cause of ginseng root rot. The antifungal bacteria were identified as Bacillus subtilis (I4) and B. amyloliquefaciens (yD16) based on physiological and cultural characteristics, the Biolog program, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing analyses. Antagonistic activity of both bacterial isolates to C. destructans increased with increasing temperature. More rapid starch hydrolytic activity of the bacteria was seen on starch agar at higher temperatures than at lower temperatures, and in the higher density inoculum treatment than in the lower density inoculum treatment. The bacterial isolates failed to colonize ginseng root the root tissues inoculated with the bacteria alone at an inoculum density of $1{\times}10^6$ cfu/ml, but succeeded in colonizing the root tissues co-inoculated with the bacteria and C. destructans. Scanning electron microscopy showed that the pathogen was damaged by the low-density inoculum treatment with the bacterial isolates as much as by the high-density inoculum treatment. Both bacterial isolates were more effective in reducing root rot when they were treated at a concentration of $1{\times}10^6$ cfu/ml than at $1{\times}10^8$ cfu/ml. Also, only the former treatment induced prominent wound periderm formation, related to structural defense against pathogen infection. The results suggest that the bacterial antagonists may have high potential as biocontrol agents against ginseng root rot at relatively low-inoculum concentrations.

Root Colonizing and Biocontrol Competency of Serratia plymuthica A21-4 against Phytophthora Blight of Pepper

  • The biocontrol agent Serratia plymuthica A21-4 readily colonized on the root of pepper plant and the bacterium moves to newly emerging roots continuously. The colonization of A21-4 on the pepper root was influenced by the presence ofPhytophthora capsici in the soil. When P. capsici was introduced in advance, the population density of A21-4 on the root of pepper plant was sustained more than $10^6$ cfu/g root until 3 weeks after transplanting. On the other hand, in the absence of P. capsici, the population density of A21-4 was reduced continuously and less than $10^5$ cfu/g root at 21 days after transplanting. S. plymuthica A21-4 inhibited successfully the P. capsici population in pepper root and rhizosphere soil. In the rhizosphere soil, the population density of P. capsici was not increased more than original inoculum density when A21-4 was treated, but it increased rapidly in non-treated control. Similarly, the population density of P. capsici sharply increased in the non-treated control, however the population of P. capsici in A21-4 treated plant was not increased in pepper roots. The incidence of Phytophthora blight on pepper treated with A21-4 was 12.6%, while that of non-treated pepper was 74.5% in GSNU experimental farm experiment. And in farmer's vinyl house experiment, the incidence of the disease treated with the fungicide was 27.3%, but treatment of A21-4 resulted in only 4.7% of the disease incidence, showing above 80% disease control efficacy.

  • In order to know the optimum planting density under shading structures at different light intensity, We investigated the growth status, distribution of ginseng leaf area, correlation between planting density and root weight per plant and yield, correlation between leaf area index and root weight per plant and yield. According to the increase of planting density the leaf area per plant was decreased, but leaf area index (L.A.I) was increased. Ginseng leaf population at different lines under common straw shading were distributed mainly in frost lines but polyethylene net shading at 10fo light intensity were distributed equally in all lines. Optimum planting density in common straw shading at 5% light intensity was 55 plant per tan (90 cmX180 cm) and polyethylene net shading 81 10% light intensity was 60 plant per tan, in consideration of root weight and yield. Optimum leaf area index was 2.4 under common straw shading at 5% light intensity but was 2.7 under polyethylene net shading at 10% light intensity.

백하수오의 파종방법과 재식밀도에 따른 생육 및 근수량 (Effects of Sowing Method and Planting Density on Growth and Root Yield of Cynanchum wilfordii Hemsly)

  • 백하수오 근수량 증대를 위한 밀식 재배법을 확립하고자 직파와 육묘 이식으로 구분하여 파종하고 재식밀도를 달리하여 시험을 수행한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 지상부 생육은 파종 방법 간에는 육묘 이식재배에서 양호하였으며, 재식밀도 간에는 밀식할수록 만장과 분지수는 길거나 많았으나, 엽장과 엽폭은 소식할수록 증가하는 경향이었으며, 개체당 엽수는 22주/$m^2$에서 가장 많았다. 2. 지하부 생육은 파종 방법 간에는 육묘 이식재배에서 양호하였고, 재식밀도 간에는 주당 지근수, 근장 및 근태는 소식할수록 많거나 길거나 굵었으나, 단위 면적당 지근수는 밀식할수록 증가하였다. 3. 생근수량은 직파 재배보다 육묘 이식재배에서 많았으며, 재식밀도 간에는 밀식할수록 많아 육묘 이식 17주/$m^2$(1,680 kkg/10a)에 비하여 27주/$m^2$(2,567 kg/10a)에서 53%증수되었다.

  • To handle the density increase of SRAMs, a new parallel testing methodology based on built-in self test (BIST) is developed, which allows to access multiple cells simultaneously. The main idea is that a march algorithm is dperformed concurently in each baisc marching block hwich makes up whole memory cell array. The new parallel access method is very efficient in speed and reuqires a very thny hardware overhead for BIST circuitry. Results show that the fault coverage of the applied march algorithm can be achieved with a lower complexity order. This new paralle testing algorithm tests an .root.n *.root.n SRAM which consists of .root.k * .root.k basic marching blocks in O(5*.root.k*(.root.k+.root.k)) test sequence.

연질 PE관을 이용한 여름딸기 부분냉방기술 개발 (Spot Cooling System Development for Ever-bearing Strawberry by Using Low Density Polyethylene Pipe)

  • The effects of spot cooling on growing ever-bearing strawberry in hydroponic cultivation during summer by spot cooling system was estimated in plastic greenhouse located in Pyeongchang. The temperature of cooling water was controlled by heat pump and maintained at the range of $15{\sim}20^{\circ}C$. Cooling pipes were installed in root zone and very close to crown. Spot cooling effect was estimated by applying system in three cases which were cooling root zone, crown plus root zone, and crown only. White low density polyethylene pipe in nominal diameter of 16 mm was installed on crown spot, and Stainless steel flexible pipe in nominal diameter of 15A was installed in root zone. Crown and root zone cooling water circulation was continuously performed at flowrates of 300 ~ 600 L/hr all day long. Strawberry yields by test beds were surveyed from Aug. 1 to Sep. 30. The accumulated yield growth rate compared with a control bed of crown cooling bed was 25 % and that of crown plus root zone cooling bed was 25 % and that of root zone cooling bed was 20 %. The temperatures of root spot in root zone cooling was maintained at $18{\sim}23.0^{\circ}C$ and that of crown spot in crown cooling was maintained at $19{\sim}24^{\circ}C$. Also, the temperatures of root spot in crown plus root zone cooling bed was maintained at $17.0{\sim}22.0^{\circ}C$ and that of crown spot was maintained at $19{\sim}25^{\circ}C$.

  • 본(本) 연구(硏究)는 경사부위별(傾斜部位別) 토양별(土梁別)로 토양(土壤)의 물리적(物理的) 성질(性質) 중(中) 용적량(容積量)과 공극률(孔隙率)이 은수원사시나무의 생장(生長)과 근계발달(根系發達)에 미치는 영향(影響)을 분석(分析)한 것으로서 그 결과(結果)를 요약(要約)하면 다음과 같다. 1) 용적중(容積重)과 공극률(空隙率)은 경사부위(傾斜部位)와 밀접(密接)한 관계를 가지고 있으며, 토심(土深)에 따라서 유의적(有意的)인 차이(差異)를 갖는다. 2) 용적중(容積重)은 하부(下部)에서 평균(平均) $1.17g/cm^3$(1.05~1.40), 상부(上部)에서 평균(平均) $1.43g/cm^3$(1.36~1.60)이었으며, 공극률(空隙率)은 하부(下部)에서 평균(平均) 52.65%(55.05~45.50), 상부(上部)에서 평균(平均) 41.20%(43.81~37.21)이었다. 3) 용적중(容積重)은 수고(樹高), 흉고직경(胸高直徑), Total biomass 및 임목(林木)의 각(各) 부위별(部位別) Biomass와 회귀분석결과(回歸分析結果) 부(負)의 상관(相關)을 나타내었다. 4)은수원사시나무의 근계(根系)는 천근성(淺根性)으로서 주로 Al속(屬)에 분포(分布)하였으며, 한계용적중(限界容積重)은 $1.40g/cm^3$이었다.

단삼의 재식밀도와 피복재료에 따른 생육 및 수량특성 (Characteristics of Growth and Yield by Planting Density and Mulching Materials in Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the variation of growth and yield using different planting densities and vinyl mulching in S. miltiorrhiza cultivation. Top plant growth was observed in the $30{\times}30cm$ planting density of S. miltiorrhiza;, plant height, leaves and branches were larger than in the other treatments. Root length, root diameter, and supporting roots of underground part were increased as planting density was wide, and dry root weight was increased in $30{\times}30cm$. However, yield was highest at 294 kg/10a in the planting density of $30{\times}10cm$. The use of 30-31cm white and black vinyl mulching had no significant effect on the plant height of S. miltiorrhiza, as compared to non-mulching. However, the highest volume of leaves and plant weight was observed in plants using 24.7 black vinyl mulching. Dry underground root weight was highest in black vinyl mulching at 21.7 g compared to 17.0 g for non-mulching. Yield per 10a increased by 28% using black vinyl mulching compared to non-mulching. Based on the results of this study, planting density of $30{\times}10cm$ and black vinyl mulching are the most suitable in the cultivation of S. miltiorrhiza.

Characteristics of Third Year American Ginseng Root Yields for Lytton, British Columbia, Canada

  • The statistical characteristics of three year old American ginseng (Panax quinquefolium 1.) root yields from Lytton, British Columbia, Canada are presented. Ginseng root yield is related to plant density, with the highest yields generally obtained from the sites with the highest plant densities. However, these higher yields are made up of a larger proportion of smaller roots while the proportion of larger roots remains almost constant throughout the range of plant densities sampled. Further, it is suggested that relatively small samples can provide significant insight into crop performance and growth.

국산 파티클보오드와 중밀도 섬유판의 나사못 유지력(I) - 최적 예비구멍 직경 - (Holding Strength of Screws in Domestic Particleboard and Medium Density Fiberboard (I) - Optimum Pilot Hole Diameter -)

  • Screw withdrawal test was carried out on the face and edge of domestic particleboard and medium density fiberboard in order to evaluate optimum pilot hole diameter. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Maximum withdrawal strengths on the face and edge of particleboard were obtained with pilot hole diameters at about 50% of root diameters of screw. 2. Maximum withdrawal strength on the face and edge of medium density fiberboard were obtained with pilot hole diameters that were about 60% and 50% of root diameters of screw, respectively. 3. Withdrawal strength showed about 91% of maximum withdrawal strength when pilot holes were not pre bored at particleboard. but when pilot holes at 90% of root diameter of screw withdrawal strength showed about as 51.3% of maximum withdrawal strength. 4. Withdrawal strength showed about 88% of maximum strength when pilot holes were not used, but withdrawal strength indicated 55.4% of maximum strength in case of 90% of root diameters of screw. 5. Maximum withdrawal strength on the face of particleboard was about 70.5% higher than that of the edge, and however medium density fiberboard was about 19.6% higher than that of the edge.
