쌍롤식 연속주조공정에서의 난류유동 및 거시적응고 해석 (Analysis of the Coupled Turbulent Flow and Macroscopic Solidification in Twin-Roll Continuous Casting Process)

  • The transport phenomena in a wedge-shaped pool of twin-roll continuous caster are affected by the various operating parameters such as the melt-feed pattern, roll-gap thickness, melt-superheat, and casting speed. A computer program has been developed for analyzing the two-dimensional, steady conservation equations for transport phenomena during twin-roll continuous casting process in order to estimate the turbulent melt-flow, temperature fields, and solidification in the wedge-shaped pool. The turbulent characteristics of the melt-flow were considered using a low-Reynolds-number K-$\xi$ turbulence model. Based on the computer program, the effects of the different melt-feed patterns, roll-gap thicknesses, and superheats of melt on the variations of the velocity and temperature distributions, and the mushy solidification were examined. The results show that the liquidus line is located considerably at the upstream region, and in the lower region appear the well-mixed melt-flow and most widely developed mushy zone. Besides, the variation of melt-flow due to varying melt-feed patterns, affects mainly the liquidus line, and scarcely has effects on the solidus line in the outlet region.

  • To find a way for establishing work roll initial crown according to roll conditions, computer simutation for predicting plate crown in plate mill is done and effects of roll conditions on plate crown is analyzed. Toll gap rorfile and plate crown are measured to be compared to the calculated values. As a result, regression equation to establish work roll initial crown according to roll conditions such as backup roll diameter, backup roll crown and work roll diameter is obtained.

  • In this study, the characteristics of cooling and rolling during strip casting process is obtained in comparison with the experimental and analytical results. The prupose of this study is to effectively analyze the thermal and mechanical deformation of roller applying the results of the heat transfer and the pressure distribution to boundary conditions. And then the relation between strip thickness and roll deformation is shown. The second purpose is to obtain the proper condition of the continuous casting for stainless steel. The summary and conclusions can be made on the basis of the results obtained by the theories and experiments. a) The strip casting condition for the fine surface quality of tin-alloy as-cast material was obtained in accordance with the velocity of roll rotation and initial roll gap. b) The experimental condition that the dimension of the cast strip thickness coincide with that of the initial roll gap was according to the experimental result of continuous casting by twin-roll type. c) The thermoelastic finite element model to calculate the roll deformation is represented. Thermoelastic model prediction for the roll deformation are in good agreement with the experimental results considering the thermal expansion of the roll. d) The higher cooling rates were obtained by a twin-roller quenching technique. Also quenched microstructure of the rapidly solidified shell was verified. e) The magnitude of roll deformation due to the thermal expansion and roll separating force is quantit- atively represented in the analysis of continuous casting for stainless steel.

  • In the hot rolling process, the RF AGC (Roll Force Auto Gauge Control) is used to control the roll gap to reduce the variation of rolling force caused by the roll eccentricity and the variation of material thickness. However the effect of the roll eccentricity cannot be distinguished. To eliminate the effect of the roll eccentricity, the roll eccentricity estimation is needed to supplement some drawbacks of RF AGC. In this paper, an ALE(Adaptive Line Enhancer) that extracts the rolling force variation due to the roll eccentricity is suggested. We also provide an algorithm that enhances the convergence time of roll eccentricity estimation. The performance improvement of the Suggested algorithm is shown via simulations.

  • The problem of tension control in metal-strip processing line is discussed. A new mathematical dynamic model which relates tension change, motor-speed change and roll-gap change is developed. Through the computer simulation of this model, parameter sensitivity, the tension transfer phenominon, and static and dynamic characteristics of strip tension were studied. Guidelines are developed to help one selecting locations of the master-speed drive in multi-drive speed control for tension adjustment and reducing the effect of interaction between tension and roll gap control.

  • In this paper the modeling and control of a twin roll strip caster is investigated. Mathematical models for the strip casting process are obtained by analyzing five critical areas such that the molten steel level in the pool, solidification process, roll separating force and torque, roll dynamics including hydraulic actuators, and roll drive system. A two-level control strategy is proposed. At lower level, three local subsystems are independently feedback-controlled by suitable local controllers which perform well to the behaviors of each subsystem. They are a variable structure control of the molten steel level in the pool, an adaptive predictive control of the roll gap which is directly related to the strip thickness, and an $H^{\infty}$ control of the roll drive system. At higher level, all reference signals to the lower level subsystems are generated by an optimal controller in the perspective of regulating the strip thickness and roll separating force.   • Two roll straightener showed the remarkable improvement in straightness betterment of the bar compared with other types of straightener. So, in this study we designed a two-cross straightener curvature for the straightness improvement of a bar and contact sections with respect to the variation of the gap between two-cross roll using nonlinear contact analysis. The Displacement in terms of a intersection angle between roll and bar was predicted on with the effect of a straightness and plastic deformation behaviors of the bar according to the roll drive of a two cross-roll straightener.

  • According to the number of cold-rolled coils, the amount of roll wear and thermal expansion, and roll gap profile were calculated, by using the actual data from the finishing mill. Also, based on those data, the calculations of the deflection, the flattening, and the contact pressure of vwork rolls and backup rolls were made respectively. Specially, in the calculation of contact pressure, the numerical results were obtained not only during the normal rolling, but also during the abnormal rolling, by modeling mathematically the dynamic impact force which occurs when the head section of the strip is threading through rolls. With those results the growth of the fatigue region and the fatigue damage of rolls were predicted. Also the optimum roll-grinding depth was determined to maximize the roll life.

압착되어 회전하는 강체/변형 롤의 동적 특성에 관한 수치해석 연구 (A Numerical Study on Dynamic Characteristics of Counter-Rotating Rigid/Deformable Rolls in Press Contact)

  • 동적 특성에 영향을 받는 롤 코팅의 평형적인 두께 예측과 불안정성을 분석함은 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 강체/변형롤 사이에서 생성되는 마이크로 코팅액의 두께를 예측하기에 앞서 압착되어 회전하는 두 롤 사이에 발생하는 접촉 압력의 분포와 변형롤의 변형 형상을 예측하고자 한다. 또한 변형롤의 재료상수와 롤의 속도 및 마찰계수 그리고 압착 크기 등의 변수들에 대한 접촉압력분포를 수치적인 방법으로 측정하여 유효한 변수들의 영향을 분석하고자 한다. 수치해석 방법으로는 유한요소법을 사용하였고 두 롤을 모델링하여 변형롤에 고무물성치를 초탄성체 모델로 가정하여 일반적으로 사용되는 Mooney Rivlin 계수를 사용하였고 40~80rpm 사이의 속도로 회전할 때 접촉 형상 및 압력분포를 분석하였다. 접촉형상의 경우 압착정도에 따라 변하고 그외 변수들에는 영향을 받지 않고 접촉압력의 경우 변형롤의 물성치와 압착정도에 의해 주요한 영향을 받고 속도 및 마찰계수에는 영향을 받지 않음을 알 수 있다.

  • For the purpose of rolling hard metals such as silicon steel and non-ferrous metals, the backup roll driven-type mill has been widely used in cold rolling industry. Since the backup roll drive results in horizontal bending of the work rolls and therefore exerted reciprocal action on the roll gap contour, the selection of slim work rolls is very restricted. In this paper, we present an analytic equation based scheme to determine a proper horizontal position of work roll minimizing the horizontal force subject to mechanical constraints.
