  • This paper deals with an exit strip gauge controller design for a cold rolling mill process with one input and two outputs. In order to attenuate the exit strip gauge variation caused by the Back-up roll eccentricity and the entry guage variation, an H$_{\infty}$ controller design methodology is used to keep the frequency weighted mixed sensitivity function small.   • To fulfill recent requirements for high quality products in steel rolling process, fast responding and easily tunab control system is required and ILQ(Inverse Linear Quadratic) control system may be one of such alternatives. In this paper characteristics of ILQ control and its application to BUR(Back-Up-Roll) eccentricity in strip rolling mill is discussed and compared to polynomial control approaches. Also the rolling mill model and basic principle to control thickness of srip are introduced with control effect by polynomial methods.

A Study on the Fault Diagnosis of Roller-Shape Using Frequency-Domain Analysis of Tension Signals (장력신호의 주파수 해석을 이용한 롤 형상 이상 진단에 관한 연구)

  • Rollers and rolls in the continuous process systems are noes of key components that determine the quality of web products. The condition of rollers and rolls(ex. eccentricity wear) should be consistently monitored in order to maintain the process conditions (ex. tension, edge position) within a required specification. In this paper, a new diagnosis technique is suggested to detect the defect of rollers/rolls (ex. eccentricity, wear) based on frequency domain analysis of web tension signal. The kernel of this technique is to use the spectrum amplitude of tension signal which allows to identify the fault rollers/rolls and to also diagnose the degree of fault in corresponding rollers and rolls. The experimental results proved that the suggested diagnosis technique can be successfully used to identify the defect rollers and rolls as well as to diagnose the degree of the defect of those rollers. The suggested technique can be applied to monitor and diagnose the shape of rollers and rolls in various multi-span web transport systems.

Identification of Linear Model of Tandem Cold Mill Using N4SID Algorithm (N4SID 알고리즘을 이용한 연속 냉간 압연기의 선형모델 규명)

  • This paper identifies a linear time-invariant mathematical model of each stand of a five-stand tandem cold mill to design a robust $H_\infty$ thickness controller by applying input and output data sets to N4SID (Numerical algorithms for Subspace State Space System Identification) method. The input-output data sets describe interstand interference in the process of tandem cold rolling and are obtained from a nonlinear simulator of the tandem cold mill. In result, it is shown that the identified model well approximates the nonlinear model than a Taylor linearized model. Furthermore, uncertainties including roll eccentricity and incoming strip variation are quantitatively analyzed from the plot of maximum singular values.

  • We assume that the KOREASAT fails the entry of the geostationary orbit due to the error at the apogee kick motor firing. A simulation is done for the satellite that has a geosynochronous orbit with a non-zero degree inclination angle due to the failure at the apogee kick motor firing caused by the unbalance of the fuel storage and the spin of the thrust vector, etc. We analyzed the evolution of the orbit using the perturbation theory and calculated the changes of the eccentricity and the inclination. WHen a communication satellite has the figure eight trajectory, the beam point also traces the satellite. In this paper, We develope an algorithm to attack the above problem by stabilizing the beam point using the adjustment of the roll angle of the satellite. The spin action on the polarization plane that occurs when a satellite passes the ascending node and descending node affects the efficiency of the communication a lot, so we did another simulation for the better yaw angle adjustment for the KOREASAT to reduce the spin actino on the polarization plane.

A Study on the Fault Diagnosis of Roller-Shape Using Frequency Analysis of Tension Signals and Artificial Neural Networks Based Approach in a Web Transport System

  • Rollers in the continuous process systems are ones of key components that determine the quality of web products. The condition of rollers (e.g. eccentricity, runout) should be consistently monitored in order to maintain the process conditions (e.g. tension, edge position) within a required specification. In this paper, a new diagnosis algorithm is suggested to detect the defective rollers based on the frequency analysis of web tension signals. The kernel of this technique is to use the characteristic features (RMS, Peak value, Power spectral density) of tension signals which allow the identification of the faulty rollers and the diagnosis of the degree of fault in the rollers. The characteristic features could be used to train an artificial neural network which could classify roller conditions into three groups (normal, warning, and faulty conditions) The simulation and experimental results showed that the suggested diagnosis algorithm can be successfully used to identify the defective rollers as well as to diagnose the degree of the defect of those rollers.
