In information society, enhancing information literacy is a common goal of the academic and school libraries. Consequently the academic libraries connect with the school libraries through information literacy In this study, a academic library visiting program is presented and proposed as a policy to link the academic and school libraries. This program may be a alternative to activate school library-based teaming and overcome lacks of resources and teacher librarians, in the academic libraries. it may be a policy to improve lacks of materials and carrels and overcome the problem of service increase in the opening academic library for local communities. And it will contributes to the educational role or the librarian.

Academic libraries need to support effectively cyber education which should be managed successfully. When the information materials and library services for distance learners are supported efficiently, they can maximize learning effects. This study explored the role and function of academic libraries that seek to support cyber education successfully through previous foreign studies and presented the elements of the librarian, library service, digital library, library administration and policy that academic libraries must consider to support cyber education successfully.

This paper investigated the introduction background, the role a nd the functioning of the CADIST which is operated in France in order to emphasize the necessity of characterization of academic libraries. The objective of this policy is to collect and to diffuse scientific and technical information, and to establish its sharing system. The result of the policy shows that the sharing system is brought an activation of research and a discrimination or characterization of universities. And the discrimination and characterization of academic libraries is played an important role in area industry.

This study analyzed the respective teaching and learning-related services offered by the Centers for Teaching and Learning and the academic libraries to find the proper roles of libraries regarding this type of service. We interviewed librarians to collect the data. The content analysis of the qualitative interview data enabled us to identify the librarians' perceptions of teaching and learning support, service provision method, strengthening relationships with other academic units, recognition of libraries' roles within the universities, and generating more investment for the libraries. Finally, the analysis led to six suggestions for libraries' teaching and learning support functions, such as advertising the availability of specific academic discipline or unit-oriented library services, strengthening librarian's capabilities as educators, bolstering digital information literacy of the faculty members and students, injecting libraries' views into the development and maintaining fundamental knowledge-related programs, emphasizing the notion of human-centered libraries, and finding new ways to utilize library space.

The purpose of this study is to extend the role of Academic libraries as a local information center to link with communities. Information that can be shared by everyone, need a certain social device that makes everybody to be served equally. The purpose of this study is to describe the problems. which academic libraries in the V.S., U.K., Australia, and Canada have faced since the 1990s. These problems are mostly caused by environmental changes in higher education. In this study, only discussed are the problems that academic libraries in various countries have commonly experienced. but not unique ones libraries in each country has due to its own national, societal, cultural, academic or informational situations. Major problems include continuing decrease in library expenditures, changing role of libraries themselves. changing nature of library collections, development of information technology and technological Infrastructure on campus, steep increase in prices of scholarly journals, and relative decrease in purchasing powers of libraries. These Problems are all closely inter-related, and seem to require more comprehensive and systematic strategic solutions carried out by the national or government intervention, rather than individual libraries.

The one of the methods which academic libraries maximize the user service is to perform the 'liaison' service that embodies the customized service to make close linkage with library and users. The purpose of this study is to propose the operational plan of 'liaison' service at academic libraries. It was explored the necessity of liaison service, the definition and role of liaison librarian. After this study examined the case of activities and duties of liaison librarian at Korean and foreign academic libraries, the operational plan such as organization, administration and steps et al. of 'liaison' service were proposed.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the development strategy of academic libraries in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Canada which have been established in response to the problems faced since the 1990s. In this study, discussed are the strategic planning and solutions carried out at the national or government level, rather than by individual libraries. Their efforts commonly focus on such measures as resource sharing, shared catalog and storage facilities, cooperative purchasing and negotiation for scholarly journals, etc.

The Academic library services are based on specialized subject resources in academic fields in order to maximize the desirable direction of its services. Accordingly, there are some academic libraries introduced and applied subject specialist librarians. However, they can not objectively analyze the strengths and weaknesses as well as future directions to subject specialized service. The purpose of this study examined three library cases which the structure of organized subject specialist librarian. It tried to give a set of effective guidelines for academic libraries to introduce subject specialist librarian. Analysis showed that the initial problems of subject specialist librarians in its early stages are appeared: carrying out the role, appraisal-results in human resource decision making such as rewards and promotion. In order to successful introduction of subject specialist librarian in academic library, there are solutions that solving the problems which happen in early stage, active guidance and public relations strategy for faculty, approaching to activate integration within its library and cooperating among academic libraries should be back up for improving effectiveness in the long term.

American Academic Accreditation System was reviewed. Current accreditation standards of the six regional accreditation associations were analysed with reference to the evaluation of academic libraries. That analysis was led to the recognition of some trends; mission and goal based assessment, qualitative evaluation, emphasis on the student learning outcomes, emphasis on the teaching role of academic librarians, distance education, and less prescriptive text. Some suggestions were made for revision of the Korean academic accreditation standards related to libraries.
