  • In a day and age when contemporary businesses are transformed, driven by a service-dominance logic and dependent upon IT, we need to understand how firms cope with technological adaptations and how such technological adaptations can lead to service adaptations. Drawing on a framework on technological transitions and an interpretive longitudinal case study of the services provided by a team within a large public IT firm, this article addresses the following questions : How do service transitions come about? Can we distinguish particular patterns in service transition processes? This research unveils how technological and social dimensions mutually constitute each other within development and implementation of service provisioning. The findings show how:(a) IT plays a fundamental role in service provisioning; (b) technological transitions are the necessary but insufficient preconditions for service transitions; and (c) there are attenuation effects when it comes to the move from technology transition to service transition.

  • We have performed high-level quantum mechanical calculation for multiple proton transfer in HOCl + HCl and $H_2O$ + $ClONO_2$ on water clusters, which can be used as a model of the reactions on ice surface in stratospheric clouds. Multiple proton transfer on ice surface plays crucial role in these reactions. The structures of the clusters with 0-3 water molecules and the transition state structures for the multiple proton transfer have been calculated. The energies and barrier heights of the proton transfer were calculated at various levels of theory including multi-coefficient correlated quantum mechanical methods (MCCM) that have recently been developed. The transition state structures and the predicted reaction mechanism depend very much on the level of theory. In particular, the HF level can not correctly predict the TS structure and barrier heights, so the electron correlation should be considered appropriately.

  • Electronic structures of ordered Fe$_3X (X = Al, Si), and their derivative ternary alloys of Fe_2TX (T = 3d transition metal) have been investigated by using the linearized muffin-tin orbital (LMTO) band method. The role of the coupling between substituted transition metal and its neighbors is investigated by calculating the magnetic moments and local density of states (LDOS). It is shown that it is essential to include the coupling beyond nearest neighbors in obtaining the magnetic moment of Fe alloy. The preferential sites of T impurities in Fe_3X are determined from the total energy calculations. The derivative ternary alloys of Fe_2TX have characteristic electronic structures of semi-metal for Fe_2VAI and (nearly) half-metal for Fe_2TAI (T = Cr, Mn) and Fe_2TSi (T = V, Cr, Mn)

  • Electrodeless fluorescent lamp exhibit two modes of operation : a low density mode in which the power is capacitively coupled to the plasma and which is known as the E-mode, and a higher density mode which is an inductive discharge known as the H-mode. The transition between these two(E to H) mode exhibits hysteresis. It is observed that transition currents change at different frequencies and hysteresis exists not only between the starting and minimum maintaining currents of the electromagnetic mode (H mode) discharge but also between the starting and minimum maintaining currents of the electrostatic mode (E mode) discharge. Hysteresis effect can be important role in dimming system.

  • The phase transition temperatures and thermodynamic properties of $(NH_4)_2MnCl_4{\cdot}2H_2O$ grown by the slow evaporation method were studied using differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. A structural phase transition occurred at temperature $T_{C1}$ (=264 K), whereas the changes at $T_{C2}$ (=460 K) and $T_{C3}$ (=475 K) seemed to be chemical changes caused by thermal decomposition. In addition, the chemical shift and the spin-lattice relaxation time $T_{1{\rho}}$ were investigated using $^1H$ magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR), in order to understand the role of $NH_4{^+}$ and $H_2O$. The rise in $T_{1{\rho}}$ with temperature was related to variations in the symmetry of the surrounding $H_2O$ and $NH_4{^+}$.

  • We investigated the glass transition temperatures ($T_g$) of dendrons consisting of conformationally mobile aliphatic polyether dendritic cores plus glassy peripheral polystyrenes (PSs), and linear PSs in the molecular weight range of 1000-8500 g/mol. We compared their $T_g$ behavior depending on their polymeric architecture. The linear PSs show a typical growth of $T_g$ up to 92.5 ${^{\circ}C}$ as the molecular weight increases to 8300 g/mol, while the dendrons display nearly constant $T_g$ values of 58-61 ${^{\circ}C}$, despite the increase of molecular weight with each generation. The striking contrast of Tg behavior would be mainly attributed to the fact that the dendrons keep the ratio of $N_e$/M ($N_e$: number of peripheral chain ends, M: molecular weight) over all the generations. Additionally, for the influence of dendritic spacers on glass transition temperature we prepared dimeric PSs with different linkage groups such as aliphatic ether, ester and amide bonds. We found that the dimer with the ether spacer exhibited the lowest glass transition at 55.4 ${^{\circ}C}$, while the amide linked dimer showed the highest glass transition temperature at 74.2 ${^{\circ}C}$. This indicates that the peripheral PS chains are effectively decoupled by the conformationally flexible ether spacer. The results from this study demonstrated that polymeric architecture and dendritic core structures play a crucial role in the determination of glass transition behavior, providing a strategy for the systematic engineering of polymer chain mobility.

  • NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) plays an important role in surface land cover classification and LST (Land Surface Temperature Extraction). Its characteristics do not full carry the information of the surface cover typically in urban areas even though it is widely used in analyses in urban areas as well as in vegetation. However, abnormal NDVI values are frequently found in urban areas. We, therefore, examined NDVI values on whether NDVI is appropriate for LST and whether there are considerations in NDVI analysis typically in urban areas because NDVI is strongly related to the surface emissivity calculation. For the study, we observed the influence of the surface settings (i.e., geometric shape and color) on NDVI values in urban area and transition features between three land cover types, vegetation, urban materials, and water. Interestingly, there were many abnormal NDVI values systematically derived by the surface settings and they might influence on NDVI and eventually LST. Also, there were distinguishable transitions based on the mixture of three surface materials. A transition scenario was described that there are three transition types of mixture (urban material-vegetation, urban material-water, and vegetation-water) based on the relationship of NDVI and LST even though they are widely distributed.

  • Purpose: Effective transitional care is needed to improve the quality of life in older adult patients with chronic illness and avoid discontinuity of care and adverse events. The aim of this article is to provide an overview of the key features, broader implications, and the utility of Meleis' transition theory intended for the transitional care of older adults with chronic illnesses. We present the role of nurse in the context of transitional care and propose future directions to increase the quality of nursing care. Methods: The online databases Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature, MEDLINE, and Science Direct were searched for relevant literature published since 1970 along with textbooks regarding nursing theory. Results: An evaluation of the usefulness of transition theory based on transitional care in older adult patients with chronic illnesses is provided. Healthy transition should be the expected standard of nursing care for older adults across all healthcare settings. Conclusion: Nurses need to contribute to the development of transitional care for vulnerable populations; however, transition theory needs to be enhanced through additional theoretical work and repeated evaluations of the applicability in areas of transitional care.

  • The functional behavior of a consumer electronic product is nearly all expressed with human-machine interaction (HMI) tasks. Although physical prototyping and computer aided design (CAD) software can show the appearance of the product, they cannot properly reflect its functional behavior. In this paper, we propose an approach to virtual prototyping (VP) that incorporates HMI functional simulation into virtual reality techniques in order to enables users to capture not only the realistic look of a consumer electronic product but also its functional behavior. We adopt state transition methodology to capture the HMI functional behavior of the product into a state transition chart, which is later used to construct a finite state machine (FSM) for the functional simulation of the product. The FSM plays an important role to control the transition between states of the product. We have developed a VP system based on the proposed approach. The system receives input events such as mouse clicks on buttons and switches of the virtual prototype model, and it reacts to the events based on the FSM by activating associated activities. The system provides the realistic visualization of the product and the vivid simulation of its functional behavior using head-mounted displays (HMD) and stereo speakers. It can easily allow users to perform functional evaluation and usability testing. A case study about the virtual prototyping of an MP3 player is given to show the usefulness of the proposed approach.

  • In Korea the most important plant industry is the rice-growing but she has not yet attained self-sufficiency with regard to rice which is the basic food of Korean. In the past, various measures of increasing rice production have been tried with some success but the increasing rate of did not show the sufficient result. Judging from experiences, disease control may be the most important factor which has influence on increasing of rice production in Korea. During the past 60 years three periods divided by the transition of rice diseases were noted, and especially the recent transition attracted much attention . That is, sheath blight and stripe which were minor diseases in the past have promptly spread all over the country and caused heavy losses to rice plant, and also local outbreak of bacterial leaf blight and dwarf were noticed. Various environmental factors are related to such transition of rice disease. Above all, cultivated varieties susceptible to these diseases, increase of application of nitrogenous fertilizer, earlier transplanting and density of transplanting are considered to be lucre closely related to the development of these diseases and successive development of blast. On the other hand. application of forage fungicides such as organic mercury compounds specific to blast contributed to reduce prevalent area if blast in spite of wide spread of susceptible varieties and increase of application of nitrogenous fertilizer. These facts were confirmed by Korean investigators At the present which various diseases to control coexist in the same region, no one variety resistant to all of these diseases is provided and cultural practices for the control of these diseases often do not produce sufficient yield of rice. it is emphasized that a role of pesticides is very great.
