PERFORMANCE OF TWO DIFFERENT HIGH-ACCURACY UPWIND SCHEMES IN INVISCID COMPRESSIBLE FLOW FIELDS

  • Performance of first, second and third order accurate methods for calculation of in viscid fluxes in fluid flow governing equations are investigated here. For the purpose, an upwind method based on Roe's scheme is used to solve 2-dimensional Euler equations. To increase the accuracy of the method two different schemes are applied. The first one is a second and third order upwind-based algorithm with the MUSCL extrapolation Van Leer (1979), based on primitive variables. The other one is an upwind-based algorithm with the Chakravarthy extrapolation to the fluxes of mass, momentum and energy. The results show that the thickness of shock layer in the third order accuracy is less than its value in second order. Moreover, applying limiter eliminates the oscillations near the shock while increases the thickness of shock layer especially in MUSCL method using Van Albada limiter.

  • Boil-dried concentrate (BDC) and steam-dried concentrate (SDC) were prepared from olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus roe using the cook-dried process, and their food functionality and in vitro bioactivity were examined. The buffer capacity of BDC and SDC was found to be stronger in the alkaline region than in the acidic region, and the buffer capacity of SDC was superior to that of BDC. The water holding capacities of these concentrates were 7.6 and 7.4 g/g protein, respectively, both of which were significantly lower than that of freeze-dried concentrate (FDC). The solubility of BDC (13.4%) and SDC (12.7%), foaming capacity of BDC (107.7%) and SDC (110.6%), and oil-in-water emulsifying activity index of BDC (7.7 m2/g) and SDC (9.7 m2/g) were all significantly lower than the corresponding values for FDC (P<0.05). The lower food functionality of BDC and SDC compared with FDC can be attributed to the high-temperature denaturation of proteins during the cook-dried process. The 2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid radical scavenging activities (IC50) of SDC (2.5 mg protein/mL) was 60.4 ㎍/mL, and the angiotensin I converting enzyme inhibitory activity was 80.9%. Olive flounder roe concentrates have good antioxidant and antihypertensive activities, and can be used as materials or ingredients in the processing of seafood and other foods to enhance protein contents and food functionality.

영암산 염건 숭어알의 가공과 조성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Processing and Compositions of Salted and Dried Mullet Roe)

  • 전통식 품인 영암 어란의 제조 공정을 체계화 하여 숭어알을 염지하고 정형하여 참기름을 바르면서 건조하여 제조한 염건 숭어알과, 전처리를 동일하게 한 진공건조 숭어알을 저장하면서 지질을 분획하고 그 구성지방산을 분석하고 단백질의 구성아미노산 및 유리아미노산을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 숭어알을 채취하여 소금물로 씻고 10% 간장액에 24시간 염지하고 건조판 상에서 두께 1.2cm로 가압하여 정형하고 참기름을 1일 2회씩 바르면서 $20^{\circ}C$, 3m/sec 풍속과 70% R. H.에서 3주간 음건하여 제조하였다. 2. 지질함량이 40.12% 이었고, 유리지질은 62mg/100mg, 결합지질은 36mg/100mg이었으나 저장 중에는 감소하였다. 유리 및 결합지질을 분획하여 얻은 유리 중성지질이 40mg/100mg으로 최대 함량이었으나 9주째는 29mg/100mg까지 감소하였으며 결합중성 및 인지질은 각각 13mg/100mg씩, 당지질은 10mg/100mg이었으며 이들은 저장중에 감소하였다. 3. 지질을 구성하는 주요 지방산은 $C_{18:2}$, $C_{18:1}$, $C_{18:0}$$C_{16:0}$의 순서로 다량 함유되었으며, 홀수지방산은 $C_{13:0}$에서 $C_{21:0}$까지 소량 함유되어 있었다. 불포화 지방산의 함량은 55% 정도 함유되었으며 저장중 다가불포화지방산의 감소 속도는 신속하였다. 4. 구성아미노산은 18종으로 Glu가 11.17%, Pro이 8.33%, Leu이 7.38%, Lys이 7.26% 및 CySH 이 7.55%로 다량성분 이었으며, 이들의 단백가는 155%, 화학가는 109%이고 필수아미노산비(EAA/TAA)는 $0.4{\sim}0.44$이었다. 또한, 진공건조한 경우의 아미노산 함량은 3주째는 많았으나 저장중의 감소량이 많았다. 유리아미노산은 Pro이 50.6l%로 절반 이상이었고. Trp과 Tyr이 다량 함유되어 총 1,376mg% 이었다.

  • From numerical point of view on flow network system analyses, stagnation properties are not preserved along streamlines across geometric discontinuities. Hence, GJM and DTM using ghost cell and thermodynamic relations are developed to preserve the stagnation enthalpy for the boundaries, such as the interfaces between junction and branches and the interface between two pipes of different cross-sections in serial pipelines. Additionally, the resolving power and efficiencies of the 2nd order Godunov type FV schemes are investigated and estimated by the tracing of the total mechanical energy during calculating rapid transients. Among the approximate Riemann solvers, RoeM is more suitable with the proposed boundary treatments especially for junction than Roe's FDS because of its conservativeness of stagnation enthalpy across geometric discontinuities.

  • For the prediction on the onset of oblique shock wave-induced vortex breakdown, computational studies on the Oblique Shock wave/Vortex Interaction (OSVI) are conducted and compared with both experimental results and analytic model. A Shock-stable numerical scheme, the Roe scheme with Mach number-based function (RoeM), and a two-equation eddy viscosity-transport approach are used for three-dimensional turbulent flow computations. The computational configuration is identical to available experiment, and we attempt to ascertain the effect of parameters such as a vertex strength, streamwise velocity deficit, and shock strength at a freestream Mach number of 2.49. Numerical simulations using the ${\kappa}-{\omega}SST$ turbulence model and suitably modeled vortex profiles are able to accurately reproduce many fine features through a direct comparison with experimental observations. The present computational approach to determine the criterion on the onset of oblique shock wave-induced vortex breakdown is found to be in good agreement with both the experimental result and the analytic prediction.

숭어알의 가공과 저장중 중성지질의 지방산함량변화 (Fatty acids of neutral lipids of salted-dried mullet roe during processing and storages)

  • 전통적인 염건숭어알(영암어란)의 제조과정을 체계화하여 숭어알을 염지하고 1.2cm 두께로 정형하여 참기름을 바르면서 풍속 3m / see, 70% R.H., $20^{\circ}C$에서 20일간 건조하여 제조한 감건숭어알(음건품)과 저장하면서 지질을 분획, 구성 지방산을 분석한 결과 지질함량이 40.12%인 감건숭어알의 유리지질은 62mg / 100mg, 결합지질은 36mg / 100mg이었으나 9주째는 20mg / 100mg까지 감소하였다. 이들 유리 및 결합지질을 분획하여 얻은 유리중성지질은 40mg / 100mg으로 최대함량이었으나 9주째는 29mg / 100mg까지 감소하였으며 결합중성지질 및 인지질은 각각 13mg / 100mg, 당지질은 10mg / 100mg이었으며 이들은 저장중 감소하였다. 중성지질을 구성하는 주요한 지방산은 유리중성지질에서 $C_{16:0},\;C_{18:0},\;C_{18:1},\;C_{18:2}$$C_{20:0}$로 그 합계는 30.05mg / 100mg으로 78.5% 함유되었고 결합중성지절에서는 74.5%를 차지하였다. 또한 불포화도(TUFA/TSFA)는 $1.21{\sim}1.41$로 9주째는 $0.57{\sim}0.61$까지 낮았으며 polyene산비(TPEA/TMEA)는 $0.32{\sim}1.23$이고, 필수지방산 함량(TEFA)은 11.33mg / 100mg에서 9주째는 4.52mg / 100mg까지 감소하였다.

Disturbance in seedling development of Korean fir (Abies koreana Wilson) tree species on higher altitude forests of Mt. Hallasan National Park, the central part of Jeju Island, Korea

  • Background: Natural regeneration of seedlings as well as saplings of Korean fir has been significantly impacted by the browsing from the early stages of their development, potentially, by roe deer for the last two to three decades at the study site since late 1980s. This study was carried out to investigate current status of the disturbance in the seedling development of Korean fir (Abies koreana) on Mt. Hallasan, Jeju Island, Korea. Methods: Field survey was carried out during June and August in 2016 to measure the characteristics of study site and understory vegetation by applying systematic sampling to 125 plots of $5m{\times}5m$ quadrat located on eastern slope of the mountain. Correlation and regression analyses were applied to the variables quantified from the data sets using the SAS software. Results: No saplings with their diameters at breast heights smaller than 5.0 cm were found at the study site indicating the serious disturbance in the natural regeneration of Korean fir at the study site. No seedlings with their heights taller than 36.0 cm were found at the study site indicating even more serious disturbance during earlier stage of the natural regeneration of Korean fir at the study site. A total of 616 individuals of the seedlings of Korean fir were found at 54 out of 125 sampling plots. One hundred thirty-eight seedlings (22.4%) out of 616 individual seedlings have the vestiges for being grazed, potentially, by roe deer. Conclusions: Due considerations should be given to the effects of browsing of the seedlings by roe deer to promote the natural regeneration of Korean fir, ultimately to restore Korean fir. It is needed for the managers of the forest to install fences around the forest area. Exclosure experiments as well as enclosure experiments of different densities of browsing should be carried out. In addition, treatment with different densities of Jeju dwarf bamboo should also be included in the experiment on Mt. Hallasan National Park, Jeju Island, Korea.

어류 알로부터 알칼리 가용화공정을 통해 회수한 Collagenous Protein 획분의 식품 기능특성 (Food Functionality of Collagenous Protein Fractions Recovered from Fish Roe by Alkaline Solubilization)

  • This study investigated the potential of collagenous protein fractions (CPFs) as functional foods. The specific CPFs studied were recovered from the roe of bastard halibut (BH), Paralichthys olivaceus; skipjack tuna (ST), Katsuwonus pelamis; and yellowfin tuna (YT), Thunnus albacares through the alkaline solubilization process at pH 11 and 12. The buffer capacity, water-holding capacity and solubility of CPFs with pH-shift treatment were significantly better at alkaline pH (10-12) than at acidic pH (2.0). At pH-shift treatment (pH 2 and 12), the foaming capacities of CPFs from ST and YT were improved compared to those of controls, but they were unstable compared to BH CPFs. The emulsifying activity index (EAI, $m^2/g$ protein) of CPFs (controls) was 16.0-21.1 for BH, 20.1-23.9 for ST and 9.3-13.7 for YT (P<0.05). CPFs adjusted to pH 12 showed improved EAI and YT CPFs showed significantly greater emulsifying ability than those from BH and ST. CPFs recovered from fish roe are not only protein sources but also have a wide range of food functionalities, confirming the high availability of fish sausage and surimi-based products as protein or reinforcing materials for functional foods and alternative raw materials.

Isolation and identification of mammalian orthoreovirus type 3 from a Korean roe deer (Capreolus pygargus)

  • Mammalian reovirus (MRV) causes respiratory and intestinal disease in mammals. Although MRV isolates have been reported to circulate in several animals, there are no reports on Korean MRV isolates from wildlife. We investigated the biological and molecular characteristics of Korean MRV isolates based on the nucleotide sequence of the segment 1 gene. In total, 144 swabs from wild animals were prepared for virus isolation. Based on virus isolation with specific cytopathic effects, indirect fluorescence assays, electron microscopy, and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, only one isolate was confirmed to be MRV from a Korean roe deer (Capreolus pygargus). The isolate exhibited a hemagglutination activity level of 16 units with pig erythrocytes and had a maximum viral titer of 105.7 50% tissue culture infectious dose (TCID50)/mL in Vero cells at 5 days after inoculation. The nucleotide and amino-acid sequences of the partial segment S1 of the MReo2045 isolate were determined and compared with those of other MRV strains. The MReo2045 isolate had nucleotide sequences similar to MRV-3 and was most similar (96.1%) to the T3/Bat/Germany/342/08 strain, which was isolated in Germany in 2008. The MReo2045 isolate will be useful as an antigen for sero-epidemiological studies and developing diagnostic tools.
