충전절리면의 미끄러짐특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Sliding Characteristics of Infilling-joint Surface)

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the sliding characteristics of the infilling-joint surface using the new devised shear test apparatus with changeable slope for the original infilling materials and the infilling materials experienced cyclic freezing-thawing processes. Three types of the mother rock classified as the igneous rock, the metamorphic rock and the sedimentary rock and the infilling materials were collected for laboratory test. The cohesion according to the slope change of the rock joint shows large variation within ${\pm}$5 degrees but the internal friction angle shows appears the linear decreasing tendency. It is confirmed that the affecting factor of slope change of rock joint at the behavior of rock mass is larger than that of the infilling thickness. Test results show that the cohesion and the internal friction angle in 100 times of cyclic freezing-thawing processes are decreased about 50 percent compared with original one. A further study using various infillings materials would lead to a better understanding of the failure mechanism of rock mass by slope change of rock joint.

암반의 불연속면 배열을 측량하는 원격 영상측량기 (A Survey Tool for the Measurements of the Rock Parting Surfaces)

  • This study presents methodology and tools for remote measurement of the orientation of the rock parting surfaces. Two close circuit video camera capture the pictures of a rock excavation surface while a laser beam scans the surface. Positions of the laser beams in the two digital images are recognized by image processing. Using the stereoscopic concept, three dimensional coordinations of the rock surface and the orientation of the rock parting planes are calculated. Point, cross and line type laser beams are tested for better image processing results and measurement accuracy of the coordinates. According to a simple accuracy test, cross beam show better results than the point beam. However, line beam show more promising results for the measurement of the rock parting surfaces.

Slip-line법을 이용한 V형 암석 노치의 파괴하중 계산 (Calculation of Failure Load of V-shaped Rock Notch Using Slip-line Method)

  • 2차원 응력조건에서 V형 암석노치의 파괴하중을 계산하는 해석적 절차를 slip-line 소성해석법 기반으로 개발하였다. 노치 주변의 암석이 소성상태에 있을 때 slip-line 중 하나인 α선이 암석 노치 면과 노치 외부 수평면을 연결한다는 사실과 α선을 따라서 변하지 않는 불변량이 존재한다는 이론적 사실이 해석적 절차 개발과정에서 핵심 아이디어로 활용되었다. 암석 노치 외부 수평면의 응력 경계조건을 알고 있으므로 불변량 방정식을 풀면 암석 노치 면에 작용하는 수직응력과 전단응력을 계산하는 것이 가능해진다. 노치 면에 작용하는 응력성분 값을 이용하여 쐐기에 의해 노치에 가해지는 파괴하중을 계산하였다. 개발된 해석적 절차를 적용하여 암석 노치파괴 해석을 수행하였다. 암석 노치의 파괴하중은 노치의 각도 및 노치 면의 마찰이 증가함에 따라 지수함수적 비선형성을 가지고 증가하는 특성이 있음을 해석결과는 보여주었다. 이 연구에서 개발한 해석적 절차는 쐐기형 노치 형성을 통한 암석균열 개시조건 연구, 암반 기초 지지력 계산, 암반사면 및 원형터널의 안전성 해석 등에 응용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Fractal 차원과 Variogram을 이용한 암반 불연속면의 굴곡도 특성 서술 (Surface Roughness Characterization of Rock Masses Using the Fractal Dimension and the Variogram)

  • There has been considerable research dealing with the influence of surface roughness along surfaces of rock discontinuities in relation to the peak shear strength of rock masses. Concepts accepted recently for measuring such strength include estimation of a roughness coefficient such as developed by Barton's studies. The method for estimation the Joint Roughness Coefficient (JRC) value of a measured roughness profile is subjective. The aim of this research is to estimate the JRC value of the roughness of a surface profile in a rock mass system using an objective method. The study of roughness of surfaces has included measurement of fractal geometric characteristics. Once the irregularity of the surface has been described by the fractal dimension, the spatial variation of the surface irregularities can be described using variogram and drift analysis. An empirical relationships between the roughness profiles of selected JRC ranges and their fractal dimension with variogram and drift were derived. The application of analyses of fractal dimension, variogram and drift was novel for the analysis of roughness profiles. Also, an empirical equation was applied to experimental data.

  • The purpose of this study was that manage effectively the excavation process of the transport tunnel in DONGHAE mine area by investigating the variationof the surface and groundwater flow system around the tunnel and neighbouring villages. Thus, the effect of excavation and water-prrofing process on the water system has been studied through the naked eye survey of the tunnel and the surface outcrop, joint survey, core drilling, the measurement of the surface water quantity, evapotranspiration and precipitation analysis, rock hydraulics approach, the pressure test of boreholes, the variation of the water level, and finally the numerical analysis. From above approachs, we derived the conclusion that the exhaustion of the surface water was not caused by the tunnel excavation on the groundwater system was minimized by effective water proofing process.

Rock wool wastes as a supplementary cementitious material replacement in cement-based composites

  • The use of rock wool waste, an industrial by-product, in cement-based composites has positive effects on the environment because it reduces the problems associated rock wool disposal. The experiments in this study tested cement-based composites using various rock wool waste contents (10, 20, 30 and 40% by weight of cement) as a partial replacement for Portland cement in mortars. The pozzolanic strength activity test, flow test, compressive strength test, dry shrinkage test, absorption test, initial surface absorption test and scanning electron microscope observations were conducted to evaluate the properties of cement-based composites. Test results demonstrate that the pozzolanic strength activity index for rock wool waste specimens is 103% after 91 days. The inclusion of rock wool waste in cement-based composites decreases its dry shrinkage and initial surface absorption, and increases its compressive strength. These improved properties are the result of the dense structure achieved by the filling effect and pozzolanic reactions of the rock wool waste. The addition of 30% and 10% rock wool wastes to cement is the optimal amount based on the results of compressive strength and initial surface absorption for a w/cm of 0.35 and 0.55, respectively. Therefore, it is feasible to utilize rock wool waste as a partial replacement of cement in cement-based composites.

The effect of non-persistent joints on sliding direction of rock slopes

  • In this paper an approach was described for determination of direction of sliding block in rock slopes containing planar non-persistent open joints. For this study, several gypsum blocks containing planar non-persistent open joints with dimensions of $15{\times}15{\times}15cm$ were build. The rock bridges occupy 45, 90 and $135cm^2$ of total shear surface ($225cm^2$), and their configuration in shear plane were different. From each model, two similar blocks were prepared and were subjected to shearing under normal stresses of 3.33 and $7.77kg/cm^{-2}$. Based on the change in the configuration of rock-bridges, a factor called the Effective Joint Coefficient (EJC) was formulated, that is the ratio of the effective joint surface that is in front of the rock-bridge and the total shear surface. In general, the failure pattern is influenced by the EJC while shear strength is closely related to the failure pattern. It is observed that the propagation of wing tensile cracks or shear cracks depends on the EJC and the coalescence of wing cracks or shear cracks dominates the eventual failure pattern and determines the peak shear load of the rock specimens. So the EJC is a key factor to determine the sliding direction in rock slopes containing planar non-persistent open joints.

Electrochemical modification of the porosity and zeta potential of montmorillonitic soft rock

  • The porosity (including the specific surface area and pore volume-diameter distribution) of montmorillonitic soft rock (MSR) was studied experimentally with an electrochemical treatment, based on which the change in porosity was further analyzed from the perspective of its electrokinetic potential (${\zeta}$ potential) and the isoelectric point of the electric double layer on the surface of the soft rock particles. The variation between the ${\zeta}$ potential and porosity was summarized, and used to demonstrate that the properties of softening, degradation in water, swelling, and disintegration of MSR can be modified by electrochemical treatment. The following conclusions were drawn. The specific surface area and total pore volume decreased, whereas the average pore diameter increased after electrochemical modification. The reduction in the specific surface area indicates a reduction in the dispersibility and swelling-shrinking of the clay minerals. After modification, the ${\zeta}$ potential of the soft rock was positive in the anodic zone, there was no isoelectric point, and the rock had lost its properties of softening, degradation in water, swelling, and disintegration. The ${\zeta}$ potential increased in the intermediate and cathodic zones, the isoelectric point was reduced or unchanged, and the rock properties are reduced. When the ${\zeta}$ potential is increased, the specific surface area and the total pore volume were reduced according to the negative exponent law, and the average pore diameter increased according to the exponent law.

암반 굴착을 위한 수압암반절개 기술 개발 (Development of Hydraulic Rock Splitting Technique for Rock Excavation)

  • 석회암 광산과 화강섬록암 석산에서의 수압암반절개 시험은 1과 2 자유면에서 3개와 1개의 이중패커를 이용하여 인터벌 내에 수압을 가하는 방식으로 적용하였다. 시험 결과는 약 6.5 MPa과 13.0 MPa에서 2 자유면과 평행한 방향으로 균열이 발생하였으며, 1 자유면에서 14.0 MPa의 수압에 의해 상부 천공부에 있는 1개의 이중패커가 파손되었지만 암반 균열이 발생되지 않는 결과를 도출하였다. 인터벌의 수압은 기존 균열 및 신규 균열을 통해 많은 물이 분출되면서 지속적으로 수압이 걸리는 것을 확인하였다.
