  • Recently, various techniques and patented methods on blasting operation are being newly developed. In this study, test construction of the MDS blasting method was performed, and the fragmentation size and the occurrence rate of rocks exceeding 300mm were measured and analyzed in comparing to normal blasting method. Test construction was performed three times each for normal and the MDS at the same bench for each round, and fragmentation size(P80) and occurrence rate of rocks exceeding 300mm(S30) were measured using digital image processing. A sieve bucket was also manufactured on-site to sort oversized rock particles from muck piles, and their weights and equivalents were measured to calculate actual values. As a result, the fragmentation size decreased of 21.0% with the MDS compared to normal, and 100-S30 decreased of 10.1%, with actual values decreasing of 7.6%. Although there were variations in blasting effects for each round due to differences in rock quality at site, overall, the MDS proved to be more effective compared to normal blasting method under equivalent conditions.

  • The drill monitoring data are useful for the detection of abrupt and unexpected changes in ground renditions. This paper introduces a new approach to how drill performance parameters can be used for the prediction of quantitative rock mass properties ahead of tunnel face and the blasting design. The drill monitoring parameters available for the predictions include the instantaneous advance speed, thrust force, torque, tool pressure and penetration rate. The assessment of the drill monitoring parameters will be able to build a database provided that in-situ drill monitoring informations are accumulated and enable us to make a reasonable blast design based on quantitative assessment of rock mass.

  • The traffic congestion of Seoul city has been one of the most serious problems to be settled since the advent of 1970s. As a means to mitigate traffic mess, the authority concerned launched the construction of subway line 3 and 4 in 1980. The two Subway lines slated for completion by 1985 cross each other and run north-south direction, passing through the metropolitan area of Seoul city fraught with high-rise edifices and large-scale shopping centers, and, in order to reduce blasting vibration, NATM was executed for a distance of 10 Km, instead of ASSM previously employed when subway line 1 and 2 were constructed. Tunnel blastings were implemented, preceded by classifying the rocks at construction area into five categories, namely, hard rock, semi-hard rock, weak rock weathered rock and silt and by calculating their respective specific charges through standard test blastings, by employing the pre-splitting and smooth blasting with drilling patterns of burn cut type, so as not to cause damages to surface structures. Most of explosives used were the slurry of low specific gravity and low velocity, and the firings executed by the use of milli-second detonators. Empiric formula were also formulated to check blasting vibrations, based on the vibration allowable values of West Germany standard, for the application to vulnerable construction zones. Should the two lines be placed for public service in 1985, about 40% of the total traffic population of Seoul city amounting to 15 million as of 1984 is estimated to be carried by subway with no difficulties.

  • The ocean rock was crushed mainly by drop hammer and blasting. In recent years, because of farming and harbors extension, the ocean rock crushing method is changing to popular complaint solving type. Effective rock crushing methods of protecting environment are studied under consideration for topography, farming, structures, electronic equipment, environment protection arm near to rock crushing sector. Effective rock crushing methods are compared under consideration for crushing volume, rock quality, distribution, crushing speed. Effective rock crushing methods at once solving popular complaint and protecting ocean environment and building ocean structures, are compared according to the coast development.

On the 1980's I have been used lnstantel made blastemate(DS-477), modern Instrument for measuring speed, Acc, frequency and placement. but The most of Jobsite used Lion I Carried out the empirical equation of conversion dB to cm /sec as follows. Single free face : dB = 140PPV + 30 double free face : dB = 143PPV + 20 Above equation Could apply on Rock type 3(soft rock)

  • This study has been carried out to design the standards of rock bolts which are recommended to be used for supporting material in Seong Ju tunnel, Under recently planned to construct. Due to the weak bedding rocks along the Tunnel, NATM supporting method is assumed to be applied and the design and calculation for rock bolts which are important material for this supporting method. Though the study, the results obtained are as follows. 1) The rocks defined s coarse sandstone, fine sandstone, medium sandstone, sandy shale and silty shale are normal rocks in strength, and black shale, greywacke and conglomerate are weak rocks in strength. 2) When the length of 3∼4meters of rock bolts are used, the distances of bolts are supposed to be 1.3∼1.8m in sandstone and 1.3∼2.0m in shale and for greywacke the distance should be 1.5m.

  • A quarry is operated for filling-up the New Busan Harbor which is under construction, but actual rock quality is something different from the primary design. Therefore, object of this study is to classify whole rock quality for the quarry through site investigation and laboratory analyses because unexpected large amount of wasted rock is produced. For this object, various analyses were performed such as surveying, Schimidt Hammer test. joint spacing investigation and laboratory analyses using DIPS & RockWorks programs for evaluating joint sets and sizes of rock fragments after blasting. As a result, it is expected that large amount of wasted rock under ${\Phi}100mm$ is produced after blasting because of high joint density.

  • In this case of "Seongnam~Yeoju double-lanes railroad construction", there were safety facilities which were concerned about damages from vibration and noise. In the project design stage, the rock-splitter method was designed to prevent them. The electronic blasting was considered to improve construction speed and economic value as an alternative tunnelling method, complying with the site's vibration criteria(cowhouse : 0.09cm/sec, residence : 0.2cm/sec). In the environment evaluation report of the eDev, tunnel electronic blasting systems, the blasting pollutions can be managed by the electronic blasting method. The results were successfully conducted with high speed construction without any damages to adjacent facilities.

  • Already, vari-stem, gas-bag, power deck, air ball etc. are used by various blasting methods to take the advantage of air decking technology in abroad. Air tube product has been used continuously in domestic and air ball product was made recently. In the case study, we analyzed about the application and the effect or air deck blasting method in domestic blasting area. As results or this case study, it was shown that blasting vibration was decreased about $21{\sim}41%$ and quantities or explosives was decreased about $17{\sim}30%$. Also, in the case of using air deck blasting method, fragmentation was shown to be smaller than common blasting method.

  • In order to develop effective and safe blasting techniques or to introduce foreign advanced blasting techniques to domestic industry, the analysis of research trend in blasting field in the world is essential. In generally, such a research trend analysis was carried out for limited number of published papers. In this study, a bibliometric analysis was performed using VOSviewer for the overall papers published in international journals to figure out the variation of research trend in blasting area. From the keyword analysis, it was found that the number of published papers and the number of overall keywords was limited in the 2000s. Since 2010, the number of published papers was increased rapidly and the keywords were diversified with the introduction of artificial intelligence(AI). The keyword analysis for 2017~2021 showed that various hybrid AI techniques were actively applied in the evaluation of blasting effect.
