A software package CARDS for general purpose robot design, control, and simulation has been developed and is presented here. CARDS (Computer Aided Robot Design and Simulation) consists of a collection of standardized subroutine modules that carry out typical kineamatic, dynamic, and control computations so that the user only needs to write a main program that further defines a particular robot configuration and the task to be performed. It provides users a complete simulation environment, so that it will be a valuable engineering tool for mechanical designers as well as electric control designers.

For successful implementation of robotic painting system, a structured design and analysis procedure is necessary. In designing robotic system, both functional and economical feasibility should be investigated. As the robotization is complicated task involving implemen- tation details (such as robot selection, accessory design, and spatial layout) together with operation details, the computer aided design and analysis method should be sought. However, conventional robotic design systems and off-line programming systems cannot accommodate these inquiries in a unified fashion. In this research, we develop an interactive design support system for robotization of a cycle painting line. With the developed system called SPRPL (Simulation Package for Robotic Painting Line) users can design the painting objects (via FRAME module), select robot model (ROBOT), design the part hanger (FEEDER), and arrange the workcell. After motion programming (MOTION), the design is evaluated in terms of: a) workpace analysis, b) coating thickness analysis, and c) cycle time (ANALYSIS).
The purpose of this study is analyzing the preference of young children for the outward appearance of a teacher-aided humanoid robot. The subjects of this study were 180 kindergarten children who were 4 years old. Ninety five children among the subjects were male, and 85 children were female. The instrument used for this study consisted of 15 questions that involved 3 domains; figure, face, and practical use of robot. The major findings of the study were as follows: First, young children preferred a smooth and intimate robot, and one that had a similar size to them. Second, young children preferred a more characteristic face with big eyes. Third, young children preferred a robot which had a contoured body Fourth, young children preferred a robot which had two legs or tank wheels. Fifth, young children preferred a robot that could play with them and be manipulated by them.

In recent years, a number of robot work measurement systems have been developed. This study discusses CARS (Computer Aided Romum System) which is to computerize the existed manual version ROMUM (RObot Modularization of the Unit Motion) method as the predetermined time system for robot work measurement. The ROMUM was developed to establish the standard time of work through modularize the unit motions in robot tasks. The CARS is designed on a menu driven form by computer assist for user interface and then interacts with user effectively. Therefore, the system can provide the convenience of use and minimization of analysis time and degree of judgement for establishing standard time.

This paper presents a computer-aided simulation and robotic-assisted execution technology of external fixation method to achieve fracture reduction and deformity correction in long bones. Combining the kinematic analysis with a graphic model of the tibia and the fixator allowed 3D simulation and visualization of the adjustments required to reduce fracture or correct bone deformity as a pre-operative planning tool. The developed robot model provided accurate deformity correction with small residual deformity based on the results of the planning. By incorporating the robot model with image-guided system and computer-aided planning, the integrated system could be useful for computer-aided pre-operative planning and robotic-assisted execution in fracture treatment and bone deformity surgery.

This study deals with CARS (Computer Aided ROMUM System) which is a computer version of ROMUM (RObot Modularization of the Unit Motion). ROMUM was a method developed by the concept of modularization of the unit motion of robots. Because CARS is a computer assisted method of menu-driven type for human interface, this method can be easily applied for analyzing the work motion and measuring the execution time of robots. Therefore, it will be helpful for reducing the analysis effort and time of robot work.
A Computer Aided Design (CAD) program of robot application engineering has been developed for the efficient examination of HR8000 robot. For the Simulation of robot motion. direct and inverse kinematics of robot manipulator was analyzed and robot motion was visualized. The program could contribute to upgrade accuracy and to minimize the time for the robot application engineering.

Robots evolve from tools to information media since they generates information by interacting with human. As studies on robot-aided education are still in a starting phase, attempts need to be made to use robots for educational purposes and to investigate the effects of the use. It was showed that robot-aided learning was friendlier than other media assisted learning, and especially effective for motivating children. We developed the prototype robot Jenny that can help teachers as a educational media in class(i.e. as a T.A. robot, it can present robot contents on its chest to screen and explain about it when teacher asks). is a schoolmate for 5th or 6th grade children or an elder schoolmate for the rest. We performed the field trial at an elementary school. We carried out 9 classes for three subjects(english, korean, music) with -students in $4th{\sim}5th$ grade. They thought Jenny who was 13 years old as an elder schoolmate in 6th grade. Also, a significant difference was found in the interest and concentration of experimental groups from controlled groups.
This paper presents the implementation of fuzzy PI gain scheduling controller (FPICGS) for controlling flexible joint robot arms with uncertainties from time-varying load. The term FPICGS is called based on a combination of fuzzy PI control scheme with a set of rule bases. Principle of design for a FPICGS is given along with the implementation of the designed computer aided control system. The experiment reveals an effectiveness of the proposed control scheme for flexible joint robot arms driven by a DC motorhooked with a spring which both parameters are completely unknown parameters ...
A new remote control algorithm for a mobile robot is proposed, where a remote controller consists of a camera and inertial sensors. Initially the relative position and orientation of a robot is estimated by capturing four circle landmarks on the plate of the robot. When the remote controller moves to point to the destination, the camera pointing trajectory is estimated using an inertial navigation algorithm. The destination is transmitted wirelessly to the robot and then the robot is controlled to move to the destination. A quick movement of the remote controller is possible since the destination is estimated using inertial sensors. Also unlike the vision only control, the robot can be out of camera's range of view.
