In this paper, we propose visual-based self-localization and obstacle detection algorithms for indoor mobile robots. The algorithms do not require calibration, and can be worked with only single image by using the projective invariant relationship between natural landmarks. We predefine a risk zone without obstacles for a robot, and update the image of the risk zone, which will be used to detect obstacles inside the zone by comparing the averaging image with the current image of a new risk zone. The positions of the robot and the obstacles are determined by relative positioning. The method does not require the prior information for positioning robot. The robustness and feasibility of our algorithms have been demonstrated through experiments in hallway environments.
This paper proposes a self-calibration method of robots those are used in industrial assembly lines. The proposed method is a position compensation using laser sensor and vision camera. Because the laser sensor is cross type laser sensor which can scan a horizontal and vertical line, it is efficient way to detect a feature of vehicle and winding shape of vehicle's body. For position compensation of 3-Dimensional axis, we applied block interpolation method. For selecting feature point, pattern matching method is used and 3-D position is selected by Euclidean distance mapping between 462 feature values and evaluated feature point. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, experiments are performed in real industrial vehicle assembly line. In results, robot's working point can be displayed 3-D points. These points are used to diagnosis error of position and reselecting working point.
this paper, to represent the robot motion approximately in space, delas with algorithm for position recognition of space robot, target and obstacle with vision system in 2-D. And also there are algorithms for precise distance-measuring and calibration usign laser displacement system, and for trajectory selection for optimizing moving to object, and for robot locomtion with air-thrust valve. And the software synthesizing of these algorithms hleps operator to realize the situation certainly and perform the job without any difficulty.
In this work, a 4-DOF industrial robot system with three translational and one rotational motions which is widely used in palletizing applications is developed. In order for small robot manufacturing companies to develop their own robot systems for CNC machining and/or general automations, the analysis and design methods of a 4-DOF robot manipulator are presented and the development of a PC-based robot controller with EtherCAT are introduced. It is noted that the robot controller is developed by using Simulink Real-Time, which can provide an integrated environment of easier control algorithm development and data logging. Through position control and accuracy/repeatability measurement results, the developed robot prototype has comparable performances with commercial counterparts. In the future works, the advanced functions of industrial robots such as kinematic calibration, vibration suppression control, computed torque control, etc. will be investigated.
In this paper, we propose calibration methods that can be applied to the markerless surgical robotic system for Intracerebral Hematoma (ICH) Surgery. This surgical robotic system does not require additional process of patient imaging but only uses CT images that are initially taken for a diagnosis purpose. Furthermore, the system applies markerless registration method other than using stereotactic frames. Thus, in overall, our system has many advantages when compared to other conventional ICH surgeries in that they are non-invasive, much less exposed to radiation exposure, and most importantly reduces a total operation time. In the paper, we specifically focus on the application of calibration methods and their verification which is one of the most critical factors that determine the accuracy of the system. We implemented three applications of calibration methods between the coordinates of robot's end-effector and the coordinates of 3D facial surface scanner, based on the hand-eye calibration method. Phantom tests were conducted to validate the feasibility and accuracy of our proposed calibration methods and the surgical robotic system.
In this study, an interactive programming method for robot in electronic part assembly task is proposed. Many of industrial robots are still taught and programmed by a teach pendant. The robot is guided by a human operator to the desired application locations. These motions are recorded and are later edited, within the robotic language using in the robot controller, and play back repetitively to perform robot task. This conventional teaching method is time-consuming and somewhat dangerous. In the proposed method, the operator teaches the desired locations on the image acquired through CCD camera mounted on the robot hand. The robotic language program is automatically generated and downloaded to the robot controller. This teaching process is implemented through an off-line programming software. The OLP is developed for an robotic assembly system used in this study. In order to transform the location on image coordinates into robot coordinates, a calibration process is established. The proposed teaching method is implemented and evaluated on an assembly system for soldering electronic parts on a circuit board. A six-axis articulated robot executes assembly task according to the off-line teaching in the system.
This paper presents a nuclear steam generator tube inspection/maintenance robot system. The robot assists in automatic non-destructive testing and the repair of nuclear steam generator tubes welded into a thick tube sheet that caps a hemispherical or quarter-sphere plenum which is a high-radiation area. For easy carriage and installation, the robot system consists of three separable parts: a manipulator, a water-chamber entering and leaving device for the manipulator and a manipulator base pose adjusting device. A software program to control and manage the robotic system has been developed on the NT based OS to increase the usability. The software program provides a robot installation function, a robot calibration function, a managing and arranging function for the eddy-current test, a real time 3-D graphic simulation function which offers remote reality to operators and so on. The image information acquired from the camera attached to the end-effecter is used to calibrate the end-effecter pose error and the time-delayed control algorithm is applied to calculate the optimal PID gain of the position controller. The developed robotic system has been tested in the Ulchin NPP type steam generator mockup in a laboratory.
An obstacle avoidance method for a mobile robot is proposed in this paper. Our research was focused on the obstacles that can be found indoors since a robot is usually used within a building. It is necessary that the robot maintain the desired direction after successfully avoiding the obstacles to achieve a good autonomous navigation performance for the specified project mission. Sensors such as laser, ultrasound, and PSD (Position Sensitive Detector) can be used to detect and analyze the obstacles. A PSD sensor was used to detect and measure the height and width of the obstacles on the floor. The PSD sensor was carefully calibrated before measuring the obstacles to achieve better accuracy. Data obtained from the repeated experiments were used to plot an error graph which was fitted to a polynomial curve. The polynomial equation was used to navigate the robot. We also obtained a direction-error model of the robot after avoiding the obstacles. The prototypes for the obstacle and direction-error were modeled using a neural network whose inputs are the obstacle height, robot speed, direction of the wheels, and the error in direction. A mobile robot operated by a notebook computer was setup and the proposed algorithm was used to navigate the robot and avoid the obstacles. The results showed that our algorithm performed very well during the experiments.
This paper presents a camera calibration method using several images for three dimensional measurement applications such as stereo systems, mobile robots, and visual inspection systems in factories. Conventional calibration methods that use single image suffer from errors related to reference point extraction in image, lens distortion, and numerical analysis of nonlinear optimization. The camera parameter values obtained from images of same camera is not same even though we use same calibration method. The camera parameters that are obtained from several images of different view for a calibration target is usaully not same with large error values and we can not assume a special probabilistic distribution when we estimate the parameter values. In this paper, the median value of camera parameters from several images is used to improve estimation of the camera values in an iterative step with nonlinear optimization. The proposed method is proved by experiments using real images.
This paper deals with an application of neural network to camera calibration with wide angle lens and 2-D range finding. Wide angle lens has an advantage of having wide view angles for mobile environment recognition ans robot eye in hand system. But, it has severe radial distortion. Multilayer neural network is used for the calibration of the camera considering lens distortion, and is trained it by error back-propagation method. MLP can map between camera image plane and plane the made by structured light. In experiments, Calibration of camers was executed with calibration chart which was printed by using laser printer with 300 d.p.i. resolution. High distortion lens, COSMICAR 4.2mm, was used to see whether the neural network could effectively calibrate camera distortion. 2-D range of several objects well be measured with laser range finding system composed of camera, frame grabber and laser structured light. The performance of 3-D range finding system was evaluated through experiments and analysis of the results.
