It is the main problem to measure the position and orientation of a robot end effector for the calibration of robots. The calibration methods can be used as a tool to improve the accuracy of robots without change of the arm or control architecture of robots. But such calibration methods require the accurate measurements. Dynamic measurement of position and orientation Provides a solution of this problem and improves dynamic accuracy by dynamic calibration o( robots. This paper describes the development o( the laser tracking system capable of determining the static and dynamic performance of industrial robots. The structure and system components are presented and basic experimental results are included to demonstrate the instrument performance. The system can be applied to the remote controlled mobile robots as weil as the calibration of robots.

Robot calibration needs accurate measurements of robot end-effector position at a number of different robot configurations. One of the efficient ways of the measurement is "Touching on Jig" method suggested in [7], which utilizes a touch sensor and a fixture consisting of various sizes of blocks. By moving the end-effector to touch the surface of a block whose position relative to the other is known, the end-effector position relative to the fixture coordinate system can be obtained at the instant of touching. However, the global size of fixture is too small to cover the various configurations of the robot. Because of the manufacturing difficulties, the fixture cannot be manufactured large enough for well distributed position measurement. It results in the improvement of robot accuracy only in the limited space near to the fixture rather than over the whole space of the robot working volume. The paper proposes a method to resolve the above problem by measuring the end-effector positions with respect to several different coordinate system using the same measurement devices. It is found that the proposed method leads the improvements of robot position accuracy over the large space of working volume. The experimental studies are performed to show the validity of the method and their results are discussed.
Machining error makes the uncertainty of dimensional accuracy of the kinematic structure of a parallel robot system, which makes the uncertainty of kinematic accuracy of the end-effector of the parallel robot system. In this paper, the tendency of trajectory tracking error caused by the tolerance of design parameters of the parallel robot is analyzed. For this purpose, all the position errors are analyzed as the manipulator is moved on the target trajectory. X, Y, Z components of the trajectory errors are analyzed respectively, as well as resultant errors, which give the designer of the manipulator the intuitive and deep understanding on the effects of each design parameter to the trajectory tracking errors caused by the uncertainty of dimensional accuracy. The research results shows which design parameters are critically sensitive to the trajectory tracking error and the tendency of the trajectory tracking error caused by them.
The reducers are widely used to reduce output speed and to amplify driving torque of actuator for industrial robots and many industrial units. But the vibration of robot, which is affected by the reducer, becomes a problem for robot which has to move a driven part with high accuracy. This paper compares experimentally the vibration characteristics of the reducer for industrial robot.
A Computer Aided Design (CAD) program of robot application engineering has been developed for the efficient examination of HR8000 robot. For the Simulation of robot motion. direct and inverse kinematics of robot manipulator was analyzed and robot motion was visualized. The program could contribute to upgrade accuracy and to minimize the time for the robot application engineering.
The performance of conventional robot arms is inhibited by trade-off between speed and accuracy. Because these systems measure only joint angles, in spite of slow speed, they must rely on a stiff structure in order to attain positioning accuracy. Lightweight links would allow faster motion, but their flexibility would also produce positioning errors. This research is involved with the development and evaluation of an End-point Control System whose major goal is to compensate for link deflections and thus mitigate the speed versus accuracy conflict in conventional manipulator.

Robot calibration is very important to improve the accuracy of robot manipulators. However, the calibration procedure is very time consuming and laborious work for users. In this paper, we propose a method of relative error compensation to make the calibration procedure easier. The method is completed by a Pi-Sigma network architecture which has sufficient capability to approximate the relative relationship between the accuracy compensations and robot configurations while maintaining an efficient network learning ability. By experiment of 4-DOF SCARA robot, KIRO-3, it is shown that both the error of joint angles and the positioning error of end effector are drop to 15$\%$. These results are similar to those of other calibration methods, but the number of measurement is remarkably decreased by the suggested compensation method.
This paper deals with a tangible interface system that introduces robot as remote avatar. It is focused on a new method which makes a robot imitate human arm motions captured from a remote space. Our method is functionally divided into two parts: capturing human motion and adapting it to robot. In the capturing part, we especially propose a modified potential function of metaballs for the real-time performance and high accuracy. In the adapting part, we suggest a geometric scaling method for solving the structural difference between a human and a robot. With our method, we have implemented a tangible interface and showed its speed and accuracy test.

This paper proposes a practical algorithm for the reduction of measurement errors due to drift in a micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) gyros that are used for a mobile robot. Any drift in a MEMS gyro will cause an unbounded growth of errors in the estimation of heading, which makes it nearly useless in applications that require high accuracy over a long operating time. In proposed method, maneuvers of a cleaning robot are observed through encoders' measurement process and a decision to correct bias drift will be made if necessary. The method used in this paper is called the "heading estimation filter". To evaluate the accuracy of the proposed method, a comparison was made between the estimation of the heading of the cleaning robot and one from a motion capture system.
