Busan metropolitan city faced with very low completion rate of residential environment improvement projects. Main reason is to designate proposed residential environment improvement areas without careful analysis of the possibilities of the improvement project completion. This study aims to clarify and analyze the phase characteristics of residential environment improvement process by using 12 variables representing 5 locational characteristics such as place factors, topological factors, size factors, location condition factors and regulation factors. From results of the analysis, this study finds that business floor area ratio, improvement type and site size affect significantly the completion rate of residential redevelopment projects. However, business floor ratio, improvement type, width of frontage road and slope are significant variables to affect the completion rate of residential rebuilding projects.
Integration of GIS data and human expert knowledge into digital image processing has long been acknowledged as a necessity to improve remote sensing image analysis. We propose inductive machine learning algorithm for GIS data integration and rule-based classification method for land cover classification. Proposed method is tested with a land cover classification of a Landsat ETM+ multispectral image and GIS data layers including elevation, aspect, slope, distance to water bodies, distance to road network, and population density. Decision trees and production rules for land cover classification are generated by C5.0 inductive machine learning algorithm with 350 stratified random point samples. Production rules are used for land cover classification integrated with unsupervised ISODATA classification. Result shows that GIS data layers such as elevation, distance to water bodies and population density can be effectively integrated for rule-based image classification. Intuitive production rules generated by inductive machine learning are easy to understand. Proposed method demonstrates how various GIS data layers can be integrated with remotely sensed imagery in a framework of knowledge base construction to improve land cover classification.

This case study deal with the investigation of various causes and analyses concerning the cases of the collapse of reinforced segmental retaining walls installed for newly constructing a peripheral road within the campus of ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ University located in Gyeonggi-do. As results of stability analyses and reviewing of design documents concerning collapsed reinforced segmental retaining walls, such a collapse appeared because of problems related to construction including poor-compacted backfill, the omission of the investigation on the bearing capacity, the length and space in the installation of reinforced materials, and drainage systems. Also, problems during diverse types of designing were confirmed involving the stability analysis of the entire slope stability to be considered during designing and failure in application of the proposed methods of FHWA or NCMA which are generally used for two-tier reinforced segmental retaining walls. In addition, based on these details of the stability assessment, the study proposed reinforcement solutions and construction methods for stabilizing reinforced segmental retaining walls to be reconstructed in the future.

This study was carried out to suggest plan of earth surface erosion by typifying landforms in Gwangeung Forest. Elements of landform were classifyed as hierachical system by scale. Scale for classification set a decision as four categories. We could classify landforms which level zero is 4 levels of elements, level one is 6, level two is twelve, level three is twenty seven. However, micro landforms of valley bottom which is hard to mapping made a categorization as upper valley, middle valley, artificial channel valley. Plan for soil erosion suggested yarding corridor, landform management for surroundings of slope and bridge using rock and gravel, road construction for forest management stable bedrock rather than soil layer, repose angles and piling up rocks for channel walls, and setting up buffer zone when forest thinning be carried out. The result of this research will be expected to provide information for forest management of mountainous areas by landform types.

In Korea, more than 70% of the territory consists of mountains. Therefore, the construction of roads and railways has generally involved with a steep rock slope in which the event of rockfalls are often occurred due to the weathered rock conditions and rainfalls etc. This is dangerous when the rock falls into the road and railway on which vehicles and trains are running. In order to prevent such rockfalls, the rockfall protection fence consisting of post, wire rope, and PVC coating steel net has most used at the bottom of rock slopes. In a general practice, an absorbing rockfall energy, 50kJ is specified by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation. However, questions still remain about whether the rockfall protection fence works effectively or not. In this study, a typical wire rope used in the standard rockfall protection fence was replaced by the high carbon steel wire rod and to validate its capacity of rockfall energy absorbing the field rockfall tests were conducted. The testing results show that a new rockfall protection fence using the high carbon steel wire rods can absorb the rockfall energy more than 50kJ and 20% of construction cost was saved in comparison with the previous rockfall protection fence.
For establishing a standard of design element of the smart highway, this study investigated driver's anxiety EEG according to running speeds and geometric designs. Also, the experiment was implemented on 60 subjects. Based on running speed data and brainwave data, which were obtained from the experiment, this study analyzes anxiety EEG according to running speeds and geometric designs, and finally draws a forecasting model of anxiety EEG by selecting affecting factors of anxiety EEG. Forecasting model shows that left curve is the most influential on anxiety EEG figure. The reason is because when driver is driving on the first-lane, his or her visibility is impeded by a median strip. For this reason, anxiety EEG figure increases. And also steep downward slope and large radius of curve are heavily influential on driver's anxiety EEG figure. It is judged that anxiety EEG figure is increased by high speed on those section. Thus, the forecasting model of anxiety EEG suggested on this study will be utilized for design phase, and will decide the design speed on the superhighway. So, it will be used to make practical and safety road.

This paper presents localization algorithm for mobile robot in outdoor environment. Outdoor environment includes the uncertainty on the ground. Magnetic sensor or IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) has been used to estimate robot's heading angle. Two sensor is unavailable because mobile robot is electric car affected by magnetic field. Heading angle estimation algorithm for mobile robot is implemented using gyro sensor module consisting of 1-axis gyro sensors. Localization algorithm applied Extended Kalman filter that utilized GPS and encoder, gyro sensor module. Experiment results show that proposed localization algorithm improve considerably localization performance of mobile robots.

Promising onshore wind farm sites in Gangwon province of Korea were investigated in this study. Gangwon province was divided into twenty five simulation regions and a commercial program based on Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equation was used to find out wind resource maps of the regions. The national wind atlas with a period 2007-2009 developed by Korea institute of energy research was used as climatologies. The wind resource maps were combined to construct a wind resource map of Gangwon province with a horizontal spatial resolution of 100m. In addition to the wind resource, national environmental zoning map, distance from substation, residence and automobile road, Beakdudaegan mountain range, terrain slope, airport and military reservation district were considered to find out promising wind farm sites. A commercial wind farm design program was used to find out developable wind farm capacities in promising wind farm site with and without excluding environmental protection regions. The total wind farm capacities with and without excluding the protection regions were estimated to be 46MW and 598MW, respectively, when a 2MW commercial wind turbine was employed.
Mt. Nam (265m), a city park of Seoul, was originally covered with a typical deciduous broad-leaved forests in Central Korea. However, the park forests have been changed the development for various purpose such as the construction of castle wall, road way, broadcasting station, theater, hotel and apartments, in addition, to thoughtless plantation or alien plant introduction. Human population growth from ca. 100 thousands persons less in that time established Seoul as the capital of choseon dynasty in 1394 to ten millions over persons at present, accelerated the vegetational changes of the park. mt. Nam boundary in those days of sunjong (1908) also was much shrinked as much the range of 300 m distance in the northern most to 700 or 800m distance in some places. The actual vegetation of Mt. Nam largely can be classified by floristic composition into two plant communities of Quercus mongolica community and Pinus densiflora community, four plantations of Pinus rigida, Robinia pseudo-acacia, Populus tomentiglandulosa and other tree species, and on mixed forest with native and alien tree species in secondary succession stage (Yim et al. 1987). The restoration movement of Mt. Nam toward to the natural condition of forest or biodiversity is moving now. However, in the movement there are some problems such as the lack of ecological consideration and the undesirable decision of priority in the practice. A warning should be given, especially, on the undesirable plantation of non-native tree species restricting the forest succession, as in the case of southern slope of Mt. Nam. First of all, the most importance in Mt. Nam management is that the restoration for natural forest and biodiversity should be carried on the basis of integrated ecological principles based on the site evaluation.

As the interest on biodiversity has increased around the world, researches about evaluating potential for habitat are also increasing to find and comprehend the valuable habitats. This study focus on comprehending the significance of stream in evaluating habitat's potential. The purpose of this study is to evaluate habitat potential with applying stream as a main variable, and to comprehend the relationship between the variables and habitat potential. Basin is a unit that has hydrological properties and dynamic interaction with ecosystem. Especially, biodiversity and suitability of habitat in basin area has direct correlation with stream. Existing studies also are proposing for habitat potential evaluation in basin unit, they applied forest, slope and road as main variables. Despite stream is considered the most important factor in basin area, researchers haven't applied stream as a main variable. Therefore, in this study, three variables that can demonstrate hydrological properties are selected, which are, riparian distance, stream order and land use disturbance, and evaluate habitat potential. Habitat potential is analyzed by using Maxent (Maximum entropy model), and vertebrate's presence data is used as dependent variables and stream order map and land cover map is used as base data of independent variables. As a result of analysis, habitat potential is higher at riparian and upstream area, and lower at frequently disturbed area. Result indicates that adjacent to stream, upstream, and less disturbed area is the habitat that vertebrate prefer. In particular, mammals prefer adjacent area of stream and forest and reptiles prefer upriver area. Birds prefer adjacent area of stream and midstream and amphibians prefer adjacent area of stream and upriver. The result of this research could help to establish habitat conservation strategy around basin unit in the future.
