The RIMGIS(River Information Management GIS) has been developed since 2000 for public service and practical applications of related works after the standardization of national river data such as the river facility register report, river survey map, attached map, and etc. The RIMGIS has been improved in order to respond proactively to change in the information environment. Recently, Smart River-based river information services and related data have become so large as to be overwhelming, making necessary improvements in managing big data. In this study a plan was suggested both to respond to these changes in the information environment and to provide a future Smart River-based river information service by understanding the current state of RIMGIS, improving RIMGIS itself, redesigning the database, developing distribution, and integrating river information systems. Therefore, primary and foreign key, which can distinguish attribute information and entity linkages, were redefined to increase the usability of RIMGIS. Database construction of attribute information and entity relationship diagram have been newly redefined to redesign linkages among tables from the perspective of a river standard database. In addition, this study was undertaken to expand the current supplier-oriented operating system to a demand-oriented operating system by establishing an efficient management of river-related information and a utilization system capable of adapting to the changes of a river management paradigm.

Water quality data including flow rates and BOD/COD/T-N/T-P/SS/TOC concentrations in Nakdong river tributaries were analyzed to determine priority management areas using 699 data sets from 195 locations in 2015. It was pointed out that the coefficients of variation, the ratio of the standard deviation to the mean, for the concentrations and loading rates of BOD, T-P, and TOC in each monitoring location were so large that average values of water quality monitoring data might be not appropriate to determine the priority management areas among all 195 monitoring stations in Nakdoing river. Therefore we suggested two evaluation methods using each water quality data independently. In the first method the excess numbers of the BOD, T-P, and TOC concentrations comparing to the water quality standards in the medium-sized management areas in Nakdong river was evaluated for each monitoring station. In the second method the percentile ranks of the loading rates of the BOD, T-P, and TOC were obtained for each monitoring data. The two groups of the priority management areas determined by each method were compared and the water quality characteristics in Nakdoing river were investigated.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the change of phytoplankton fluctuation and long term of water quality of Lake Juam and to evaluate the relationship between phytoplankton pattern and environmental factors data. Correlation and factor analyses were employed to identify key environmental factors affecting phytoplankton dynamics. Of 18 parameters, pH, temperature, COD, BOD and T-P were highly correlated with Chl-a. Phytoplankton data showed that cyanobacteria were dominant, and more than 60% of total algae density. Also Lake Juam received a lot of influence of the Asian monsoon climate. This study presents necessity of multivariate statistic techniques for evaluation of Lake Juam complex data set with a view to get better information data and effective management of water source.
Purpose: Management of water is a crucial issue globally and is becoming more critical due to climate change. The purpose of this study is to explore water resource management by considering price and water usage based on river basins and to suggest more efficient residential water demand management in South Korea. Research Design, data, and methodology: This study applied data of water usage and water price of 15 regions in four major river basins by considering up and downstream locations from 1997 to 2017 collected by Ministry of Environment in Korea. This study applied regression analyses, ANOVA, and 2-Way ANOVA to verify its claims. Results: The results found that effects of price on water usage showed significant in many cities. The results also showed that means of water usages differ based on location (upstream and downstream) and river basins. Conclusion: The findings provide important policy and management implications for the improvement of water resource management in terms of demand. The results also indicate that water price should be reconsidered by comparing water price levels with those of OECD countries. Furthermore, the results imply that water management in Korea needs to improve in terms of supply to cope with climate change.
BACKGROUND: For effective subwatershed management, it is very important to select the tributaries for improving water quality and understand the characteristics of tributaries. Until now, however, the case study of main streams has been managed. 17 tributaries in Geum river subwatershed were monitored to regulate the source of water contaminations and identify their current situations in this study. METHODS AND RESULTS: As pollution indicators, such as biological oxygen demand($BOD_5$), chemical oxygen demand($COD_{Mn}$), suspended solid(SS), total nitrogen (T-N), total phosphate(T-P) and total organic carbon(TOC) in Geum river were examined from January to December in 2011. The results were as follows : The annual average concentration of nutrients in Yongdam reservoir upsteam was 0.7 mg/L for BOD, 3.0 mg/L for COD, 8.4 mg/L for SS, 2.905 mg/L for T-N, 0.035 mg/L for T-P and 1.6 mg/L for TOC. Water quality of Daechung reservoir upstream was mostly similar tendency in comparison to Yongdam reservoir upstream. Among the 22 tributaries, water quality in Daechung reservoir downstream was more polluted. T-N contents were significantly high in Miho B4 located Daechung reservoir downstream(annual average concentration: 13.53 mg/L). In cases of Miho A1, A2 and C1, pollution degree was worsened during rainy season expecially. CONCLUSION(S): For improving water quality of Geum river subwatershed, the tributaries in the Mihocheon area should be preferentially considered. Mihocheon tributary is the highest in pollution site, and thus a study on long-term effects should be research.
This study aimed to assess the impact of livestock excreta discharged from an Intensive Livestock Farming Area (ILFA) on river water quality during a rainfall event. The Bangcho River, which is one of the 7 tributaries in the Cheongmi River watershed, was the study site. The Cheongmi River watershed is the second largest area for livestock excreta discharge in Korea. Our results clearly showed that, during the rainfall event, the water quality of the Bangcho River was severely deteriorated due to the COD, $NH_4-N$, T-N, $PO_4-P$, T-P, and heavy metals (Cu, Zn, and Mn) in the run-off from nearby farmlands, where the soil comprised composted manure and unmanaged livestock excreta. In addition, stable isotope analysis revealed that most of nitrogen ($NH_4-N$ and $NO_3-N$) in the run-off was from the ammonium and nitrate in the livestock excreta. The values of ${\delta}^{15}N_{NH4}$ and ${\delta}^{15}N_{NO3}$ for the Bangcho River water sample, which was obtained from the downstream of mixing zone for run-off water, were lower than those for the run-off water. This indicates that there were other nitrogen sources upstream river in the river. It was assumed from ${\delta}^{15}N_{NH4}$ and ${\delta}^{15}N_{NO3}$ stable isotope analyses that these other nitrogen sources were naturally occurring soil nitrogen, nitrogen from chemical fertilizers, sewage, and livestock excreta. Therefore, the use of physicochemical characteristics and nitrogen stable isotopes in the water quality impact assessment enabled more effective analysis of nitrogen pollution from an ILFA during rainfall events.
In this study, seasonal Mann - Kendall test method was applied to 12 stations of the water quality measurement network of Nam-River based on data of BOD, COD, TN and TP for 11 years from January 2005 to December 2015 The changes of water quality at each station were examined through linear trends and the tendency of water quality change during the study period was analyzed by applying the locally weighted scatter plot smoother (LOWESS) method. In addition, spatial trends of the whole Nam-River were examined by items. The flow-adjusted seasonal Kendall test was performed to remove the flow at the water quality measurement station. As a result, BOD, COD concentration showed "no trand" and TN and TP concentration showed "down trand" in regional Kendall test throughout the study period. BOD and TP concentration in "no trand", COD, and TN concentration showed an "up trand" tendency in Nam-River dam. LOWESS analysis showed no significant water quality change in most of the analysis items and stations, but water quality fluctuation characteristics were shown at some stations such as NR1 (Kyungho-River 1), NR2 (Kyungho-River 2), NR3 (Nam-River), NR6 (Nam-River 2A). In addition, the flow-adjusted seasonal Kendall results showed that the BOD concentration was "up trand" due to the flow at the NR3 (Nam-River) station. The COD concentration was "up trand" due to the flow at NR1 (Kyungho-River 1) and NR2 (Kyungho-River 2) located upstream of the Nam-River. The effect of influent flow on water quality varies according to each site and analysis item. Therefore, for the effective water quality management in the Nam-River, it is necessary to take measures to improve the water quality at the point where the water quality is continuously "up trand" during the study period.

Along with green growth era in the 21st century and with the increasing economic, social, and cultural stabilization, people expect absolute freedom from the drought and flood and long for ecological exchange in the waterfront as a part of the living base at the same time. In order to match the changes in social demand, the focus on the river management policy urgently requires a comprehensive river management that considers the nature's environmental and ecological aspects as well as a new disaster prevention approach that grows out of existing simple flood prevention. Therefore, this thesis provides feasible solutions by suggesting the following findings to maintain and manage rivers to be harmonized with the natural environment considering disaster prevention aspects. It is necessary to change the river management policy and integrated river basin management, to control the river management lead by the central government and to promote close-to-nature river management approach for environmentally sound and sustainable development.

The purpose of this study is to use long-term water quality monitoring data from tributaries of the Nakdong River system to identify problematic substances in tributaries by examining the rate of exceedance and increase in water quality targets. In the Nakdong River system, monitoring is conducted once a month for 38 tributaries that require intensive management, and this data was used to analyze trends in exceeding and increasing target water quality at each point. The analysis items are eight items that can be evaluated based on river water quality standards: DO, BOD, COD, TOC, SS, total phosphorus, fecal coliform, and total coliform. As a result of the analysis, the target water quality exceedance rate was more than 50%, and the items with an increasing trend were TOC, fecal coliform and total E. coli counts, and the items with an exceedance rate of less than 50% but an increasing trend were SS. TOC is believed to be caused by an increase in non-degradable substances, and the continued increase in Total Coliform will require management of Total ColiformTotal Coliform in effluent water from sewage treatment facilities in the future.
As a result of analysis based on the observed data for BOD, COD and TOC in order to manage non-biodegradable organics in the Geumho River, COD/BOD ratio was analyzed as the occupying predominance proportion. In this study, the classification(changes in water quality measurement : increase, equal, decrease) and measurement of BOD and COD were analyzed for trends over the past 10 years from 2005 to 2014 in the Geumho River. The Geumho River is expected to need non-biodegradable organics management because BOD was found to be reduced 61.1% and COD was found to be increased 50%. As a result of the analysis of land use, the Geumho-A is a unit watershed area of $921.13km^2$, which is the most common area that is occupied by forests. The Geumho-B is a unit watershed area of $436.8km^2$, which is the area that is highest occupied by agriculture and grass of 24.84%. The Geumho-C is a unit watershed area of $704.56km^2$ accounted for 40.29% of the entire watershed, which is the area that is occupied by urban of 15.12%. Load of non-biodegradable organics, which is not easy biodegradable according to the discharge, appeared to be increased because flow coefficient of COD and TOC at the Geumho-B were estimated larger than 1 value. The management of non-point sources of agricultural land is required because the Geumho-B watershed area occupied by the high proportion of agriculture and field. In this segment it showed to increase the organics that biodegradation is difficult because the ratio of BOD and TOC was decreased rapidly from GR7 to GR8. Thus, countermeasures will be required for this.
